Dove, Darcy Leon Darcy Leon Dove The Gentle Bear has returned home, on November 30, 2004, at the age of 72. He moved ahead to join those who went before, and to set up camp and prepare a site for us who remain. He passed away after a long season of illness. Dad was born in Summerset, Colorado, on October 20, 1932, to David McKinley Dove and Eva Muhlstein Dove. He was the 3rd of six children. He grew up in the Colorado Mountains, where he came to love wildlife and nature. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dad had an abundance of love and patience for his family. He was industrious and had a good work ethic. He had the gifts of telling a great story and making those around him feel special. He was pleasant and kind, even while being very ill. He was generous to many, including those in need. These values he has passed on to his family. And these we esteem as our most cherished inheritance. About the time he was attending and graduating from Provo High School, he met his sweetheart, RaNae Hopla (Rannie), and they married on October 18, 1952, just before Dad left to serve in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He returned to Utah, where he lived a full and productive life, the kind of life that made him a hero to his two daughters: Stacy Dove Hone and Sherron Dove Ahlin. He made our childhood wonderful by sharing his love of animals and the out-of-doors, helping us catch frogs, polliwogs, and salamanders. He loved to bring us home baby critters, such as baby birds, squirrels, ground hogs, lambs, horses etc.; even letting us keep a baby skunk, fully scented. He worked in the grocery business, starting as a bag boy at the age of 15, working his way up to becoming the manager of Safeway stores. Later his dreams were realized when he became a grocery business owner of Welcome Mart. He loved owning and polishing shiny red Ford trucks. He was and avoid hunter, later retiring his rifle for a camera, becoming a talented photographer, sharing this gift and photos with family and friends. Dad and Mom have resided in Payson for over 30 years. He loved the holidays, especially Thanksgiving and Christmas, and always made them fun. His favorite pastime was spoiling his grandchildren, each one feeling they were his favorite. The family gathered every Sunday at Mom and Dad's, while Dad made special announcements and gave out awards honoring his grandchildren's achievements. It is impossible to replace a man like this in our lives. The family wishes to express their deepest thanks to the physicians and staff of Mt. View Hospital ICU for their outstanding care. He is survived by his wife, RaNae; and daughters, Stacy Hone (Michael), Payson; and Sherron Ahlin (Mark), of Santaquin; seven grandchildren: Preston, Summer (Seely), Dusty, and Tina Hone; Kody, Tawnie, and Brandon Ahlin; a great-grandson, Keagen Seely; siblings: Robert (Orem), LaJoy Simmons "Sis" (Orem), Deon (St. George), and Marvin (St. George). He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth; and a dear grandson, Kasey Hone. At Dad's request, a small private family service was held at Payson Walker Mortuary. He was laid to rest at the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville. Happy Trails, Dad! Published in the Daily Herald on 12/5/2004.
