Mary was born on April 12, 1930 to Deon and Arthur Burch in Wallsburg, Utah. She married her sweetheart Neil Bethers for time and all eternity. They are the parents of seven children. Mary is survived by her children Doug (Kim) Bethers of American Fork, UT, Marcia (Ray) Birch of Daniels, UT, Louise (Grant) Stubbs of Richfield, UT, Janice (David) Nelson of Bountiful, UT, and Gordon (Willie) Bethers of Mapleton, UT. Their beloved daughter Laurel passed away on Christmas Day last year. Another son, Ray Bethers also preceded her in death. Mary is the grandmother of 29 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Mary also leaves behind two brothers, Steve (Maureen) Burch and Gene (Nina) Burch, two sisters, Kay (Sherman) Giles and Joann (Blaine) Batty, and a brother-in-law H. Kent Francis. She reunites with three siblings who preceded her in death, Donna Francis, Myrle Treft, and Clark Burch. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview South Stake Center, 1122 Grand Avenue, Provo, Utah. Friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary of Provo, 185 E. Published in the Daily Herald from 12/15/2004 - 12/16/2004. Brimhall, Warren L. Warren L Brimhall, 92, of 558 East 300 South, Provo, died Sunday, December 12, 2004 of cancer. He was born May 29, 1912, at 558 East 300 South, to Ether Record and Sophronia Lydia Smith Brimhall. He married LaVon Knotts on July 7, 1939. The marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple June 1, 1956. Warren graduated from Provo High May 23, 1930. He joined the Provo Fire Department June 1, 1942 and retired 33 years later. While at the Fire Department he served as Lieutenant in 1947 and Captain in 1954. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family. He also enjoyed wood working. He helped with the Boy Scouts for many years. His survivors include one son, Shirl Warren Brimhall of Spanish Fork, UT, three daughters, LaDean Nelson Kille of Lehi, UT, Jacqueline B. Jensen of Lehi, and Brenda B. Atkinson of Blackfoot, ID, 15 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Rachel Atwood of Ogden, UT. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 17, 2004 at 11 AM at Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center Street, Provo. Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday evening from 6-8 PM as well as Friday morning one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Gardner, Cynthia Mallory Cynthia Mallory Gardner was born on March 12, 1922, eldest daughter of Richard Henderson and Esther Smith Mallory, in Omaha, Nebraska. She died on Sunday, December 12, 2004, at her home in Orem, Utah, following a brave battle with cancer. She received her primary education in Omaha, starting with kindergarten at Dundee School. It was continued with the fourth grade at a private school for girls, Brownell Hall, which took her through high school. She was awarded a scholarship to Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and after two years there, attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University. On June 11, 1942, she married Jack Byron Trunnell, the father of her six children: Thomas, Nancy, Bari, Marti, Mark, and Janet. After a divorce from Dr. Trunnell, she married L. Levier Gardner on December 23, 1970. She is survived by her husband, Levier; all of her children; all of Levier's children„Levier, Norman, Robert, Wayne, Ronald, Marvin, Bruce, and Brent Gardner, and Donna Ivey; 68 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; DeLynn Decker of Provo, whom Cynthia and Levier considered a "16th child"; and sisters Mary Rice and Ann Teal. She is preceded in death by two great-grandchildren and by her sister Barbara Hannon. Cynthia was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Salt Lake Tabernacle on November 29, 1941, and she remained a devout member of the Church as long as she lived, serving in all the auxiliaries. She and her husband, Levier, served as missionaries in the Argentina Cordoba Mission, 1984-86. They served together for many years in the Provo Temple. She also enjoyed her assignments as writer and editor on various general Church committees, such as the family home evening, gospel doctrine, and Visiting Teaching Message writing committees; she greatly enjoyed that work and the friendships formed in doing it. Cynthia was a professional genealogist, an editor at BYU Press, and an award-winning writer. She did volunteer editing for the Braille Resource and Literacy Center. And she recently published a book of poetry. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Lakeridge Fifth Ward, 575 South 400 West, Orem, Utah, at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held Friday evening, December 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Berg Mortuary, 185 E. Center Street, Provo, Utah. An additional viewing will be held on Saturday, December 18, at the Lakeridge Fifth Ward, at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral. He was born Jan. 23, 1943 in Porterville, Calif. A son of James Eudean Fryar and Julia Balsinger. Married Roberta Lawret Isobel Tabor on May 27, 1966. James was a generous man and a loving husband and father. He was an active member of the LDS church and served in many callings. He owned and operated James Magarrell Insurance. He enjoyed 4-wheeling, the outdoors, traveling, he loved animals and was known for his generosity. Survived by his wife Roberta of Provo; sons James of SLC, Thomas Jeffery (Malynda) of Japan, Robert Walter (Katie) of Colorado Springs, and David Eudene of Provo; 6 grandchildren; brother Jeffery Fryar; sisters Cheryl Loomis and Brenda Rosenbaum. Preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held Saturday December 18, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Grandview 4th Ward, 1081 West 1060 North, Provo, Utah. Martenson, Brett Micheal Brett Micheal Martenson, born in Seattle, Washington, March 28, 1965, passed away peacefully, at his home in Orem, on December 9, 2004. Brett will be remembered for his love of fishing Strawberry Reservoir andthe Weber River. He alsoloved music andanimals, especially his many cats and pet bird. They loved him in return. After graduating from high school in Seattle, he attended community college in broadcasting and was aDJ in Seattle before moving to Utah. He worked at Stogie's, where he made many friends who will dearly miss him. Hewas preceded in death by his father. He is survived by his mother and a sister. Peterson, Dallas Odell Dallas Odell Peterson, 79, died Wednesday, December 15, at his home in St. George, Utah, of cancer, which he had fought three other times since 1972. He was born August 17, 1925 in Oakley Idaho to Leland and Della Mitton Peterson. He was married to Dorene Meacham on November 21, 1951 in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the Air Force, rising to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. Dallas attended Utah State University and Brigham Young University, graduating with his B.S. and M.S. Degrees. He subsequently attended Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, receiving a Ph.D. in Geology in 1959 with an emphasis in Invertebrate Paleontology. He taught at Chico State College in Chico, California and at Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, where he was chairman of the Geology Department. He moved in 1968 to Madison, Wisconsin as a University Systems Administrator, retiring in 1992 as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs for the University of Wisconsin System. During his lifetime, Dallas served faithfully in various church callings, including as a missionary in the Great Lakes Mission and eventually as Bishop, High Councilman and Stake Patriarch. He and Dorene served as church service missionaries in the Wisconsin Milwaukee Mission after their retirement to Marquette, Michigan. Following 12 years in Marquette, they relocated in June of this year to St. George, Utah. Dallas is survived by his wife, Dorene and his son, David Odell Peterson (Yvonne), his mother, Della Peterson of Blackfoot, Idaho, his brother, Wesley Peterson (Joann) of Wellsville, Utah, sisters Shirley Simpson of Blackfoot, Idaho, Joan Cowley (Jody) of Berthoud, Colorado and Doris Port of Wenatchee, Washington and his six grandchildren, Emily Peterson, Daniel Odell Peterson (Jazmine),Christopher Peterson, Diana Johnson (Tom), Lisa Peterson and Ryan Peterson. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 18 at 1 p.m. at the Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 1st E., Brigham City, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, December 18, 12-12:45 p.m., prior to services at the mortuary. Roylance, Finley W. Finley W. Roylance, 89, passed away Tuesday, December 14, 2004 at his home in Springville, UT following a lingering illness. He was born September 29, 1915 in Springville, UT, the youngest child of Archie W. and Margaret LaRene Finley Roylance. He graduated from Springville High School in 1934 where he played football. He continued to be an avid supporter of the Springville Red Devils his whole life. He was a part of the first four year Seminary graduating class. He attended Utah State Ag. College graduating in forestry in 1938. He married Florence Larene Hardy on May 24, 1941 in Springville, UT. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Finley served in the US Army during W.W.I.I. He was a part of the Normandy Campaign and was wounded near Metz, France. His injury earned him the Purple Heart. He was joint owner of Automotive & Industrial Supply Co. in Springville. He was a member of several service organizations, including The American Legion and Kiwanis Club. He also served on the Selective Service Board for 7 years. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he held several positions including Elders Quorum Pres. and Bishopric Counselor. He considered his service in the Provo Temple a great blessing in his life after the passing of his wife, Florence in 1984. He served faithfully for 14 years until his health prevented him from continuing. The greatest love of his life outside of his family was his rose garden. He was well known for sharing these prized possessions with all. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Helen Crandall, Mary Schwartz, Lucy Johnson, Erling Roylance & William Roylance; his wife Florence and his son, John Walton Roylance. He is survived by his children, Ann (Clark) Ostergaard of Taylorsville, Brent (Laurel) Roylance of Hyrum, Michael (Patricia) Roylance of Haupstuhl, Germany, Karl (Deann) Roylance of Springville; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek 1st Ward Chapel (555 S 600 E, Springville, UT). A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary (211 E 200 S Springville, UT), and one hour prior to the services at the church. Sumsion, Margaret May Thomas Margaret May Thomas Sumsion Our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Margaret Sumsion, died peacefully from congestive heart failure, December 9, 2004, at age 89. Margaret was born on May 26, 1915, in Heber City, Utah, to John Ernest and Lizzie Clyde Thomas. She married Frederick Frank Sumsion on December 8, 1936. Their marriage of 65 years was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in 1961. Margaret faithfully and selflessly cared for Fred with great love and devotion during his eleven-year battle with Parkinson's Disease and strokes. Margaret was his primary caregiver, providing a wonderful example of marital love to her family. Margaret was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many positions, including ward and stake Relief Society President, and fulfilled many teaching assignments. Her great examples and a firm testimony of the gospel were an inspiration to her family and many friends. She was very generous with her time and means. She was a wonderful homemaker and never wasted a minute. She was known for her wonderful meals, served on clean, white linen, china and crystal. She would let the grandchildren "help" knead the bread dough and continued making "Grandma's" rolls long after she lost most of her eyesight. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; daughter, Madeline; three brothers and one sister. She is survived by her children: Frank Sumsion Jr. (Earla Gay), Ann Clarke (Wayne), Ernest Ray Sumsion (Terri), Mark Thomas Sumsion (Jan), son-in-law, James Westover; and brother, Oran Thomas (Louise); plus twenty-two grandchildren and 49 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank all those who helped Mom in her later years: her boys in the basement; her 12th ward friends who continued to visit her; her friends and staff at "Cove Point;" her physician, Dr. Vaughn Welch; and the compassionate employees of Harmony Health and Hospice, who provided her with loving care to the end. Viewings will be held at Berg Mortuary (185 E. Center Street, Provo), Friday evening, December 17, from 6:30-8:00 p.m.; and, Saturday morning, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. Funeral services will also be at Berg Mortuary and will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 18.
