Virginia was able to live in her own home in Midway, Utah until her passing at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center on October 30, 2004. She was loved by all, known for her great story telling, and she will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Thomas Scott Baer. She is survived by three daughters, Coleen Oltrogge, Mt. Pleasant, UT; Scotty Renslow, San Ramon, CA; and Laurie Ivers, Orem, UT; three sons-in-law, ten grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and twenty-one step-great-grandchildren; three brothers, Kirby Lee Brown, Gilliam, LA; William (Buddy) Brown, Mesquite, TX; and Dudley (Jack) Brown, Crowley, TX. She is survived by many other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, at 10:00 a.m., in the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo. Published in the Daily Herald on 11/2/2004. Brailsford, Bert Orvil Our Dad, Bert Orvil Brailsford, returned to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and his wife on October 30, 2004. Dad was born on August 30, 1925, to Bert and Augusta Hill Brailsford, and was raised in Springville, Utah, where he met many of his life-long friends. Dad married the love of his life, Arletta Clements, on May 16, 1947. On June 24, 1964, they were sealed together as a family for all time and eternity in the LDS Temple, in Manti, Utah. Bert and Arletta raised their five children in Orem and were married 54 years. Dad joined the Navy and served in WWII. In his lifetime, Dad served as a Mst. Sargent in the Air Force Reserves where he received an Accommodation Medal and a Merit Award. Dad also served as a Reserve Provo Police Officer and owned and operated his own business for many years. Dad will always be remembered for his quick wit and family pranks. He always loved to tease his grandchildren. We will love and miss you, Dad, until we meet again. Bert is survived by his son, Orval (Deania) Brailsford, Pleasant Grove, his daughters, Kathleen A. Pitts, Orem, Jeanie (Charlie) Moore, Pleasant Grove and Nancy (David) Krippner, Lehi; his brothers, William Brailsford, American Fork, James Brailsford, Spanish Fork and sister, Elsie (LaVerl) Aston, Orem. Adopted into the family were Dan and Irene Tafoya of Orem. Bert had 14 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, and his pet companions, Junior and Callie. Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Arletta C. Brailsford, daughter, Bonnie Dudley and grandson KJ Crompton. Brereton, Morris Austin Our father, grandfather and great-grandfather Morris Austin Brereton passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004 at the age of 97, after a short illness. He was born February 17, 1907 in Provo, Utah to John Austin and Sarah Jane Cook Brereton. He was the oldest of ten children, having seven brothers and two sisters. He married his high school sweetheart Opal Lillian Hansen June 3, 1926 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple November 5, 1947. They lived in the Edgemont area and purchased a 16-acre farm in 1939. There they raised their family of eight children. His first job was working 13 years for his Uncle Will Brereton at the Utah Timber and Coal Company in Provo, Utah in the carpenter shop. When World War II started he worked on the construction of the Small Arms Ammunitions Plant in Salt Lake City, then worked on the construction of the Tooele Army Ordinance Depot in Tooele. Later he worked on the Construction of Geneva Steel, working as foreman in the carpenter shop and also as a millwright installing heavy machinery. He returned to the farm toward the end of the war, where he raised a variety of fruits and row crops. For many years Morris was secretary and later President for the Timpanogos Canal Company. The fall was his favorite time of year. He was always looking forward to trucking and selling his fruit in Nebraska where he made many friends over the years. Fall was also the time for the deer hunt he enjoyed with family and friends. He looked forward to the opening of fishing season in the spring of the year and always talked about the 18 1/2 lb. trout he caught at Fish Lake. He subdivided his property and constructed the Brereton Gardens Subdivision, building many homes over the years. Also he was responsible for getting the county to re-zone two city blocks of property along Canyon Road as commercial property and in 1944 built the first grocery store in the Edgemont area. He operated the store for two years, and then leased it out for over 30 years. Morris and Opal were snowbirds and enjoyed going south to Arizona for the winter before Opal died in 1991. Survivors include his eight children: daughters, Maruine B. Pulley, of Salem, UT, Karen (Don) Ungerman of Springville, UT, Sherlyn (Dick) Smith of Apopka, FL and sons, Garn (Karma) Brereton, Glade (Belva) Brereton, Grant (Donna) Brereton, Ronald (Shirley) Brereton, all of Orem, and Norman Brereton of Provo. Morris is also survived by 34 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 32 great-great-grandchildren; his brother Lynn Brereton of Provo and sister Lucille Phillips of Provo. Preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, one sister and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Edgemont 7th Ward Chapel, 555 East 3230 North, Provo. Colvin, Ruth Stott Ruth Stott Colvin, age 88, passed away October 29, 2004.She was born August 31, 1916, the daughter of F. Earl and Ida Fisher Stott, in Fillmore, Utah. She attended school in Fillmore and graduated from Millard High School. She lived in Meadow, Utah 3 years while attending high school. After graduation she lived with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Asael H. Fisher, in Provo and attended BYU.Ruth was employed as secretary at Provo High School for 2 years. She was secretary in several medical offices at the University of Minnesota for 9 months while her husband attended school there. Ruth married Harold Ashton Colvin 65 years ago on September 7, 1939, in the Manti Temple.She has been an active member of the LDS Church, serving as a Sunday School and MIA teacher, organist for her ward, and in the Primary organization.She was an MIA counselor and president, a Relief Society counselor and president, and an ordinance worker and clothing supervisor in the Provo Temple for 20 years. She served as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers and the Culturettes club for much of her life.She and her husband served 18 months in the Canada Calgary Mission. Ruth was a loving foster mother to 3 Lamanite children under the LDS Indian placement program.She also mothered 3 girls under the LDS Welfare Services organization. Ruth is survived by her husband, Harold A. Colvin, of Provo; 2 sons and 2 daughters: Nan (W. Marquess Dusty ) Hale of West Valley City, Dennis H. (Kathi) Colvin of Mapleton, J. Lee (Tera) Colvin of West Jordan, and Kaye (Warner) Woodworth of Provo; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers preceded her in death. Appreciation is extended to Spanish Fork Nursing and Rehab for their help with Ruth. Johns Jr., Allen Lee Allen Lee Johns, Jr., age 86, passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004 at Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah. He was born July 9, 1918 in Anacortes, Washington to Allen Lee Johns, Sr. and Juanita Margaret Jenkins. He married Helen Lorene Cobain on October 31, 1942 in Queen Ann, Seattle, Washington. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in 1970. Allen graduated from Anacortes High School in Washington and attended the University of Washington. He served his country during World War II at the Pier 91 Naval Station in Seattle. He was employed at a cannery in Alaska, Boeing, US Steel, BYU, and owned and operated Allor Electric. He served as an officer in the Independent Order of Foresters (IOOF). Allen loved to work. He liked to serve and help people. He enjoyed fishing and loved to sing. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served a mission in Tonga and Samoa. While in Tonga he served as Patriarch. He was also involved with the scouting program, served in the Provo LDS Temple, and was a High Priest, and Ward and Stake Missionary. Allen is survived by his wife, Helen of Spanish Fork; a son and three daughters: Allen Lee (Tash) Johns III of Star Valley, Wyoming, Bonita Lorene (Clyde) Wilson of Redmond, Washington, Jeanette Irene (Robert) Ball of Seattle, Washington, Colleen Maria Johns of Provo, Utah; 21 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Ellen Johns of Bothell, Washington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Edward Horton Johns. Funeral services will be Thursday, November 4, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork Stake Center, 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork. Nieman, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, October 31, 2004 in Orem, Utah. He was born August 13, 1914, to Walter and Ida Liebemann Nieman in Wausau, Wisconsin. His early school years were spent in Wisconsin and he graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Mining Engineering. He worked for a group of construction companies that were building Naval bases in the Pacific Islands. While in Honolulu he met his life long sweetheart, Virginia. He was transferred to Midway Island and was there during the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. He later returned to Honolulu and he and Virginia were married in 1942. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Hawaiian LDS Temple. She died July 27, 2003. After the war they moved to Santa Cruz, California and later settled in San Jose, California, to raise their family. He has been a very active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many church callings. He was the Bishop of the San Jose First Ward for many years. He also served as a Stake High Councilman and Sealer in the San Diego Temple. In the early 1960s he was called to serve on the LDS Church Building Committee. He supervised the building of many chapels in Australia from 1961 to 1964. After returning to the states he worked for Wester States Cast Stone and Ennis Steel in San Diego. He did not retire until the age of 76. He was a hard worker all of his life. In 1997 he moved to Utah where he has spent the last seven years near family and friends. He was a wonderful father and grandfather, being very generous throughout his life. He was survived by his children, John W. (Pat) Nieman, Clayton, California; Edward J. (Ged) Nieman, Perth, Australia; Jeanne (Scott) Harrison, Orem, Utah; 16 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; and his sister, Ruth Boehm, Green Bay, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Nieman. Peterson, Ena Christiansen Ena Christiansen Peterson, beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away early Friday morning, October 29, 2004, at a local hospital due to an extended illness. She was surrounded by her family. Ena was born July 22, 1918, in Centerfield, Utah, the oldest daughter of George Peter and Mearl Merinda Jensen Christiansen. She attended school in Centerfield and Gunnison, graduating from Gunnison Valley High School. She married Clarence Marlin Peterson on June 15, 1939 in the Manti Temple. He passed away March 6, 1992. She lived in Ephraim, Utah, Centerfield, Utah and for the past 54 years in Orem, Utah. Ena was active in the LDS Church serving in the Primary, Sunday School, Young Women and Relief Society. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, keeping a neat tidy house and especially her children and grandchildren. She is survived by a son, Clarence Marlin (Linda) Peterson, Monroe, Utah; four daughters, Venna LaRee (Lamont) Utley, Provo, Utah; Maridean (Richard) Proctor, Spanish Fork, Utah; Ena Valene (John) Whetten, Pocatello, Idaho; Ronda Phenes, Brigham City, Utah; one sister, Merna (Ray) Nielsen, Salt Lake City, Utah; three brothers, Jarl Christiansen, Sinclair, Wyoming; Bard (Charlene) Christiansen, Redmond, Utah; Cline (Lana) Christiansen, Provo, Utah; a sister-in-law, Faye Christiansen, Salt Lake City, Utah; twenty-two grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, MarNaeOrpa Hard; a son-in-law, Kenneth Hard; three grandchildren, Rashelle and Richard Proctor, and Tommy Hard; three brothers, Lenoy, Ralph and Earl; and two sisters, Karma and Edra. Guest Book Flowers Charities Rollins, Ralph Lowell Our loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, Ralph Lowell Rollins, passed away Saturday, October 30, 2004, at the age of 85. Ralph was born August 21, 1919, in Greenville, Utah, to Perley Freeman and Esther Berthada Morris Rollins. He married Betty Grace Barney on June 1, 1948, in the LDS Manti Temple and together they reared three sons and a daughter. They instilled testimony, a strong work ethic, and an optimistic attitude by their examples, and established a home full of music and learning. Ralph received his BS in Civil Engineering from Utah State in 1941, and then served as a Captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in WWII. Upon his return, his love of learning led him to earn an MS degree from Utah State in 1949 and a Ph.D from Iowa State in 1954. After teaching at Colorado State University and the University of Utah, Ralph joined the Civil Engineering faculty at BYU in 1958, where he established the geotechnical engineering program. Ralph served as department chairman for two years, 1960-1962. He was honored by an engineering fellowship in his name and retired from BYU in 1987. Ralph received the prestigious BYU Emeritus Alumni Award in 2004. Ralph founded the consulting firm of Rollins, Brown and Gunnell, Inc. in Provo, in 1965, and served as principal until his retirement, at the age of 79, in 1999. Licensed in five states, he personally performed soil and foundation investigations for over 5000 structures throughout the intermountain west, including a majority of the high-rise buildings in Salt Lake, several hundred LDS chapels, buildings on every college campus in the state, and numerous bridges and commercial buildings. Ralph performed design work for over 80 earth dams in the intermountain west, and served as a consultant to the World Bank, reviewing design plans and inspecting earth dam construction in Korea for three summers. He was President of the Utah Chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers from 1965-66. In 1972, he received the Outstanding Professional Engineer Award for Technical Competence and was named Utah Engineer of the Year in 1988. Ralph was devoted to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop of the Cottonwood 2nd Ward in Salt Lake City. He served on high councils in the Cottonwood and BYU 11th Stakes, was a volunteer consultant to the LDS Church Engineering Department, and received their Outstanding Professional Service Award in 1980. Ralph was a member of Provo Kiwanis, served one term as President, and received the Kiwanis Outstanding Service Award. Ralph is survived by his wife, Betty; his children: Craig Rollins (Vancouver, WA), Kevin Rollins (Austin TX), Kyle Rollins (Provo, UT) and Anita Rollins Blackwood (Austin, TX); his brother, Arden Rollins (Salt Lake City, UT); 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 3rd, at 10 a.m., at the Edgemont North Stake Center at 4295 North Canyon Road in Provo. Family and friends may call one hour prior to services. Titus, Janet Grace Cressall Beloved Mother, Nana, Sister, Aunt & FriendJanet was reunited with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at 2:09 p.m. after fighting a long and courageous battle with esophageal/ stomach cancer. Born in Mapleton, Utah, July 24, 1932 at 12:10 a.m. to Roscoe Farnes Cressall and Emma Eliza Lee. Married Richard Gaige Titus, December 2, 1953; later divorced. She is survived by her three children, Matthew Titus, Susan Titus and an especially loved daughter Jennifer (David) Jones, whose love and support made fighting the cancer bearable. Janet is also survived by her grandchildren, who were the light of her life; Adam Lee Hunter, Alexander Gaige Titus, Spencer Grace Jones and Jett Matthew Jones. Other survivors include 3 sisters, 2 brothers and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to give special thanks to M.D. Anderson of Houston, Texas for giving Janet hope and the best treatment available. And to Odyssey Hospice for their love and care, as it made Janet feel safe and loved. Love and appreciation also go out to all of those who came to visit and stayed to help out. Winters, Jeremy Roberts Jeremy Roberts Winters, 28, of Pleasant Grove passed away Sunday, October 31, 2004. He was born November 14, 1975 in American Fork, Utah to Larry and Terrie Roberts. Jeremy was adopted by his grandparents, Gary and Brenda Collings Winters in 1990. Jeremy grew up in Pleasant Grove and attended school there. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing with family and friends. Jeremy enjoyed riding his 4-Wheelers and loved anything with wheels and an engine. He is survived by his wife Christy of Pleasant Grove; children: Jeremy Draye Winters, Zackary Winters, and Casey Winters; father, Larry Roberts, Provo; sister, Jenny (Rob) Oliver, Pleasant Grove; brothers: Danny Roberts, Jared and David Bowers, all of American Fork; grandparents, Gary O. & Brenda Winters.
