Published in the Daily Herald on 11/7/2004. Mickiewicz, William "Bill" William Bill Mickiewicz peacefully returned to his Father in Heaven on Nov. 3rd, 2004, surrounded by his family. Dad was born on April 23, 1918, to immigrant parents. Dad was 86 years young. He was extremely proud of his Polish heritage. He was born in PA and raised in NJ. Dad was one of 9 children. Dad was 23 years old when he joined the Navy, serving in the Pacific Theatre in WW2. While stationed in the southern U.S., he met and married his sweetheart, Marilyn Joyce Carter, who survives him after 56 years of marriage. They started their family in 1948, bearing Joyce Anne Joy (Ron) Seaman, of Santa Rosa, CA; followed by Robert (Sara) of Chico, CA; Richard, of Provo; Rusty, of Am. Fork; Randy (Nancy), of Provo; and Jeannie Mickiewicz, of Am. Fork. After fourteen years of marriage, Dad was baptized into the LDS Church and his marriage to Joyce was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. He leaves behind his special sister-in-law, Ann Lewis, of Redding CA; all six of his children and their spouses, 12 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his older brother, Hank; his sisters, Helen and Leona; nieces and nephews, and close friends too numerous to count. Dad, Mom, and Rusty moved to Am. Fork from California in 2001, to be closer to family. They left many exceptionally close friends behind, including Jim and Jeanne Hall, Emilia Nolan, the Heitman family, the Grosi family, and the Tuitama family. Dad retired from the Navy as a Senior Chief Petty Officer after 20 years of valiant service. Dad also retired from Prudential Life Insurance Company after 20 years of helping others plan for their future. He was admired as a compassionate, trusted friend to all. Dad was an ardent outdoorsman his whole life, passing on his love of nature to his children and grandchildren. He was especially fond of fishing. On his 80th birthday, his children treated him to a fishing trip of a lifetime to Alaska, a trip which he shared with his sons, Robert and Randy. His love of fishing was exceeded only by his love for his family. Dad had an awesome sense of humor. He could always be found with a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. Everyone who met Dad knew he was a choice spirit, and were drawn to his light. He led by example, showing his family the meaning of hard work, the importance of responsibility, honor, and trust. By his example we learned love, compassion, sharing, dedication and most importantly, sacrifice. Everyone who knew our father will miss him, and they will be comforted in knowing that he left this world in peace, immersed in the love of his devoted family. We would also like to express our thanks to the doctors, respiratory therapists, and especially the nurses and staff at UVRMC, CCU unit, for the sweet, tender care they showed our father in his final days. There are not enough words to express our gratitude. God Bless you and your families. Funeral services will be Monday, November 8th, 2004, at 11 a.m. in the Hillcrest 5th Ward Chapel, 680 N. 350 W. American Fork. A viewing will be held Monday at 10 a.m., prior to the funeral service. Internment will be at the American Fork Cemetery. Condolences for the family at legacy.com.
