He graduated from Skyline High School, Ricks College, and Brigham Young University. In his youth he played Little League baseball, soccer, and worked hard to become an Eagle Scout. He enjoyed family trips, spending time with his grandparents, and always tried to be an obedient son. Since childhood, Kelly had a deep love of music, he passed this family tradition along to his children. He earned the money for and bought his first guitar when he was 15. He taught himself to play, and never stopped. In college, he auditioned for and became a member of the Blue Grass band that accompanied the first Ricks College folk dance team on a European tour, thus providing a six week honeymoon for his new bride Susan Luthy. Kelly and Sue were married April 30, 1981 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Kellys beautiful tenor voice was a gift he freely shared. He was in choirs from the time he was in Jr. High school. This last summer & fall, Kelly along with most of his children performed at the Villa theatre in Springville. He was a mentor for the cast and crew there. Kelly loved BYU football, making pancakes every Saturday morning for the family, and rocking-out with his guitar or bass. Kelly was an imperfect man, but a good man. He always wanted what was best for his children. He was steadfast, loyal, and a hard-worker. Punctuality was important to him, if he wasnt 10 minutes early, he was late. Kelly was a life-long member of the LDS Church. He served in the St. Louis Missouri mission. He was also a member of the Stake Mission Presidency for many years. Most recently he served as a gospel doctrine teacher and stake music chairman. Kelly loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, he often told his children, "The Church is true, act accordingly."
