Mortensen, Lorraine Pyne Lorraine Pyne Mortensen September 13,1927 - August 13, 2005 Lorraine Pyne Mortensen passed away August 13, 2005 from a lingering illness, surrounded by her family. She was born in Evanston, Wyoming to William Eber & Elva Chapman Pyne on Sept. 13, 1927. She attended schools in Provo and graduated from the old Provo High, which is now the new Provo City Center. She went on to college and then started her career as a telephone operator in Provo for Mountain Bell; then later on, worked for Sweetbriar Clothing in downtown Provo. She married her longtime neighborhood friend, T. Clair Mortensen, after he was released from the navy after World War II. They were married on Nov. 19, 1949 in Provo, Utah, which coincidentally, happened to be both parents' wedding dates. Together they had two children, Brent Clair Mortensen and Toneta Lorraine Holmes. Clair and Lorraine built their dream home in southeast Provo, where they lived and eventually died. Lorraine and Clair loved to be with each other, taking long rides through the back country. They enjoyed their cruises with friends, and camping with family & friends; especially, their grandchildren in their later years. They also enjoyed time at their Strawberry Reservoir cabin for many years. Lorraine was a very vivacious, stylish, outgoing woman. She loved people and getting together with her weekly 'Lunch Bunch' and high school friends. She loved doing ceramics for many years, and shared this gift and talent with everyone she loved. Friends & family couldn't wait for holidays to arrive to receive Lorraine's gifts. She loved the ladies of the Elks and the charity work they did. She loved her home and was a wonderful homemaker. She was a member of the LDS church and held many church positions in her lifetime. She enjoyed time with her family and being surrounded by them. 5 years ago, Lorraine encountered health problems, which have progressed over the years and eventually restricted her from doing the things she loved. However, she never quit trying, and continued doing the best she could. She was very independent and it was difficult for her to accept help the last few years because she didn't want to be a burden. We, the family, have grown so close to her through her illness and trials, that though departing was hard to face, and yet such a blessing. There are many people to thank that helped through her illness. We couldn't have done it without the love and support of her favorite doctor, "Dr. Elizabeth" (Dayton). Many thanks to the First Choice Home Healthcare and her favorite nurse, Laura, and the hospice service. Hospice were true angels that made her passing as peaceful as possible. And, a special thanks to her dear friend Beverly Finch, who made her last lunch trips pleasant for her. Lorraine's wish was to leave this earth in her own home with, "No more hospitals!" Lorraine is survived by two children, Brent Clair Mortensen of Orem and Toneta Lorraine Holmes (Brent) of Springville; 4 grandchildren, Stephnie Lea Mead (Dell), Stacie Lorraine Steele (Chris), Garrett C. Lowe (Jessica), Stephanie Beth Lowe; 5 great-grandchildren, Sabryna, Mychigan & Daisy Mae Mead and Eliza & Lucas Steele. A sister, Bonnie Pyne Whipperman (Con); a brother, Norman Pyne (Kay); 2 sister-in-laws, Norma Houston & Dixie Pyne (Lamar; deceased). 2 aunt-in-laws, Ralda & Oneta Hansen; and many dear nieces, nephews & cousins. Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, husband & brother (Lamar). Thank you mom; we are what we are because of you and dad. You have filled our hearts with joy. Our cars have been on auto-pilot to your home to visit and laugh with you.
