She was born at Marysvale, Utah onSeptember 3, 1929, as the 6th of 7 children to Leonard Leroy and Reta EllaHiggins Shelton. Barbara grew up in Marysvale, Ut. where she had many dear friends. She metand married Dick Mortensen of Circleville and together they began their married years in McGill, Nevada where Dick was employed at the copper mine. Theirmarriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. Dick andBarbara's family grew to include 4 sons and one daughter with many of thembeing blessed to live not far from their Orem home. Having served in many church callings, including Cub leader, Primary, ReliefSociety, and Young Women/MIA, Barbara loved the Lord and acknowledged hishand in all of the blessings she enjoyed. Perhaps the calling to which shedevoted her heart and soul the most, was that of wife and mother. She enjoyedambitious landscaping and home decorating projects and clearly understood andtaught her family the principles related to the ethic of hard work. There was alsoa talented and artistic side to her that can be seen in her beautiful works offramed art, where she found on-canvas, with oil-paints and brushes, an outlet ofcreative expression. She stressed the importance of family togetherness, self-worth and hard workand through her own example showed-forth a life of perseverance and therewards that come from NEVER giving-up! After her lifelong sweetheart, Dick, passed-away in 1987, she married a long-time friend Russell Harvey Lunceford, in Orem where they have resided together for just over 14 years, filling together, the capacity of Parents/Grandparents toBarbara's 4 children, Harvey's 6 children and a host of over 25 beautiful greatgrand children. Preceded in death by her Parents, one Son (Gregory), Husband (Dick Mortensen) and four Sisters (Rula Galoway, Ruth Young, Ilene Ward, MarjorieMonson), Barbara is survived by husband Harvey Lunceford, one brother(Norman Shelton) and one sister (Vonda Cropper), along with her three sons/onedaughter and their spouses (Brad and Jerrilyn Mortensen, Sterling and BernalinMortensen, Todd and Rhonda Mortensen and Steve and Shauna Blanthorn). Funeral services will be held at the Orem North L.D.S. Stake Center located at1000 North Main Street on Monday, August 22, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. where friendsmay call either one hour prior to the funeral on Monday, or on Sunday eveningAugust 21 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Sundberg Olpin Mortuary, locatedat 495 South State Street, Orem, Utah.
