Fillmore, Albert James Albert James Fillmore, 93, departed for paradise early on 4 December 2005 from his home in Farmington, Utah, due to causes incident to age. Our beloved father and grandfather was born 8 August 1912 in Burrville, Utah, to Burton P. and Marvel Cloward Fillmore, the second of eight children. Raised on the farm, Albert moved to Idaho and spent his childhood first in Rigby and then Springdale, near Burley. He helped his father and mother run the farm and worked in the grocery business in Burley during the off- season. He was educated in Southern Idaho schools, graduating from Burley High School, and attended Utah State Agricultural College (USU). During World War 2, Albert and his four brothers enlisted in military service; he served in Navy. He reached Pearl Harbor shortly after the 7 December attack and was assigned to general detail, helping to restore base operations. He was stationed on the Island of Midway during the battle there in late 1942. While home on leave from the Pacific, he married Lenna Burch in Boise, Idaho, on 2 August 1945. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Albert eventually purchased the farm from his father and raised his own family there. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunted and fished, and loved bowling. While farming and ranching in Idaho, he was active in the LDS church, serving as a high councilor, bishopric counselor, and as a high priest group leader. He attended the temple faithfully, serving a six month temple mission, and loved being a home teacher. His dear Lenna passed from this life on 25 March 1969, leaving him to care for his children alone. He married Bernadene Petersen, joined families, and together, they had the opportunity to serve a mission in Coventry England. Following retirement, they moved to Provo, Utah, where Albert continued to serve in the temple, became an avid BYU fan, and where he enjoyed serving customers in the Produce Department at Reams, working until he was almost 90. During this time Albert and Bernadene were divorced. He lovingly and proudly attended to his beautiful rose garden and was a true friend to his neighbors. Throughout his life, Albert was a wonderful example of faith and devotion he was humble, prayerful, and had a vital testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel. His was a life of kindness and simplicity; he was gracious, considerate, and loved the Lord. Albert said that the secret of a happy and successful life is never going to bed at night without thanking your Father in Heaven for your many blessings. He never missed a night. Albert was preceded in his passing by his brother Merrill (Phil), two sisters, Lucille and La Vonda, and a son, Steven. He is survived by three brothers, Lee, Ray, and Keith, a sister, La Vera, and three children, Renee (Robert) Christensen of Walla Walla, WA, Jim (Kris) of Rexburg, ID, and Aloha (Russ) Peirce of Kaysville, UT, and eight step-children, Brent (Vicki) Petersen, Collin (Hallie) Petersen, Redge (Wendy) Petersen, Candace (Brent) Peterson, Michele (Turrull) Beck, Layne (Ilene) Petersen, Trenna (John) Ellison, and Marla Petersen . He leaves an example and legacy for 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren . Our thanks go to his loved ones and dear friends in Springdale, Provo, and Farmington for their many kindnesses to him.
