Agnes Louise Nelson Atwood Hales, 87 of Spanish Fork, passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 in Spanish Fork. She was born on September 14, 1918 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Oliver Willard and Ferrel Blackett Nelson. She married Fred Atwood and he later passed away. She married Elmer Hales and he later died. She is survived by her 6 children; Carol (Charles) Scholl, of Nevada; Doyle (Kathleen) Atwood, of Taylorsville; Clarence "Jim" (Jana) Atwood, of Spanish Fork; Janet (Jesse) McCury, of Oregon and Lawrence "Larry" (Fern) Atwood, of Payson; Ray (Sue) Atwood, of Spanish Fork; a daughter in law: Shauna Atwood; 35 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren; one brother and two sisters: Wendell (Arlene) Nelson, of Springville; Marie (Jack) Waters and Helen Olson, both of Spanish Fork; and a sister in law: Jean Nelson. She was preceded in death by a son: Kendall Atwood; a daughter: Marion Atwood; and two brothers: Leon Nelson and William "Jim" Nelson. Funeral services will be Monday, December 12, 2005 at 1 p.m. in the Spanish Fork 1st Ward chapel, 310 East Center Street, Spanish Fork. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork on Sunday evening 6 til 8 p.m. or Monday 11:45 til 12:45 am prior to the services. Hansen, Kathryn Jensen 3/23/1913 12/5/2005 Kathryn Jensen was born March 23, 1913 in Hampton, Iowa to Danish parents Simon and Annine Jensen. She was the 5th of 8 children. In 1932 Kathryn moved to Los Angeles. In 1935 Kathryn met Henry Hansen at the Danish Hall, a gathering place for Danish immigrants in Los Angeles. They later married on February 6, 1936. Henry and Kathryn owned three different dairy farms in the Los Angeles area, the last being the Glendora Quality Dairy which they owned from 1946 to 1962. In 1963 they purchased a farm in Herman, Nebraska. In 1971 Henry and Kathryn retired and moved to Provo, Utah. Henry passed away in 1990. Kathryn was the mother of four; Norma Hansen Giles, Stanley Hansen, both of whom preceded her in death. She is survived by Henry (Vicky) Hansen Jr., Herman, Nebraska, and Agnes Hansen Weesees. Kathryn has 7 grandchildren and 5 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Ruth Smith and a brother, Marion Jensen. The family wishes to thank Country View Manor for their loving care and attention of our grandmother. Family services will be held in Glendora, California on Saturday, December 10, 2005. Higgins, Thelma LaVera Creech Our beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Thelma LaVera Creech Higgins, 88, of Pleasant Grove passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005. She was born December 3, 1917 at Jarbalo, Kansas to John Walter and Nina Maude Creech. She married Lawrence E. Higgins, October 4, 1939 in the Independence Missouri Mission Home. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Thelma was an active member of the LDS Church and served in numerous positions including: Young Women's President, Primary Worker and Relief Society President. She enjoyed the outdoors and spending time with her family. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence E. Higgins, Pleasant Grove; three children: Monte (Sadie) Higgins, Rio Rancho, NM; Sandra (Andrew) Hadlock, Orem; Brenda Tippetts, Charlotte, NC; sister: Violet Young, Orem; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Funeral services will be held Monday, December 12, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Battlecreek First Ward Chapel, 1255 East 200 South, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove and at the church on Monday one hour prior to services. Published in the Daily Herald on 12/9/2005. Pyle, Edward Albin Edward Albin Pyle, 88, passed away peacefully in Livermore, California on December 4, 2005. Ed Pyle was born on November 13, 1917 in Ogden, Utah and moved with his parents, Edith May Child and Lawrence Coleman Pyle, and younger brother Larry to Albany, California when Ed was three years old. Ed was born, his mother said, with a smile on his face. He had a wonderful childhood, cherished family and friends, and enjoyed scouting and sports. Ed played football and graduated from Berkeley High School. He attended the University of California at Berkeley. After three years he left to attend Cogswell Polytechnical College in San Francisco, graduating in mechanical engineering in 1940. In 1942 he enlisted in the United States Navy and served through World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.He returned to U.C. Berkeley and completed his degree in 1947. Ed then attended the Art Center School in Los Angeles, receiving a masters degree in photography in 1950. He had his own Pyle Photography custom studio in Berkeley for many years and was a gifted professional photographer. He was asked to be the first photographer for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when the Oakland-Berkeley Inter-Stake Center and the Oakland LDS Temple were being constructed, and his photographs are preserved in the Temple cornerstone. His photographs were also published in local city and Church news publications, and in The Improvoment Era. Ed also studied with Ansel Adams in Yosemite. In 1962 he obtained a high-security-clearance position doing research at the Lawrence Radiation National Laboratory in Livermore, California, where he was employed until he retired in January of 1990. Ed has held a variety of positions in the LDS Church. He has also been a temple ordinance worker in both the Oakland and Provo LDS Temples, which he dearly loved doing. Ed also served two stake missions for the LDS Church in California. He loved genealogy and family history work, and organized the Livermore Genealogy Society. He said the best event of his life, besides being born, was his marriage to his loving wife and eternal companion, Marjorie. Ed met Marjorie Butler Cummings at the LDS Berkeley 1st Ward when her parents moved their family to northern California from the Los Angeles/Glendale area. Ed and Marjorie were married in Berkeley at the home of her parents on August 21, 1943. They were later sealed for Time and All Eternity on February 23, 1944 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. Ed called her his Pearl of Great Price, and his children and grandchildren pearls on that string. Ed and Marjorie were loving companions and best friends for over 59 years. They enjoyed traveling and visited all states in the U.S. except for Alaska. Ed and Marjorie have three children: Portia Pyle Hawley [Dr Don B Hawley], Orem, Utah; Paul Cummings Pyle [Arlynn Maxwell], Livermore; and Ernest Cummings Pyle, Livermore; 10 grandchildren: Dr Jeffrey E [Evelyn] Hawley, Tooele, Utah; Deborah H [John] Meese, Layton, Utah; Jason S Hawley, Riverton, Utah; Robert D [Rachel] Hawley, Stansbury Park, Utah; Amber Pyle, Livermore; Benjamin J Pyle, West Valley City, Utah; Julianne H [Seth] Finch, Logan, Utah; Christy, Devin E and Ethan M Pyle, Livermore; 11 Great-Grandchildren: Alex, Kristina, Kathryn, Cameron, Angela, Lindsay, Jake, Conner, Tanner, Madison, and McKenna, all of Utah. Ed loved everyone, especially his family, and he was kind and helpful and friendly to everyone he met. Marjorie passed away on April 4, 2002. Ed is survived by his brother, Lawrence Thomas Pyle [Muriel], El Cerrito, California; his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law David B [Lola Nielsen] Cummings;Bert J [Emmy Lou, deceased] Ludlow;sister-in-law Betty June[Robert H., deceased] Johnson,Danville; cousin Ann H [Wade] Williams, Sacramento; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the LDS Chapel, 1501 Hillcrest Avenue, Livermore, California, on Saturday, December 10, 2005, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., with U.S. Naval tribute and private burial preceding the service on Friday, December 9, 2005, at the Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito, California. The Pyle and Hawley families wish to offer heartfelt thanks especially to the loving care givers of Hacienda Care Center in Livermore; to Oak Park Hills Chapel, Walnut Creek; and to so many family, friends and neighborsfor their support, help and loving ministrations.
