"Tonny" "Together Again" B.R. "Tonny" Devenish, age 84, of Springville, passed away Friday, December 9, 2005. He was born October 18, 1921, in Springville, Utah, to Timothy and Essie Roylance Devenish. He married Verl Olsen on September 15, 1943, in Spanish Fork, Utah. Tonny was raised in Springville and graduated from Springville High School. He worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years, and held numerous positions in the Old Timers Railroad Club. Tonny held many positions in the LDS Church. He was a High Priest, active in the scouting program, served as Scout Master, and obtained the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a devoted home teacher. He is survived by his children: LaRayne Hansen, of Springville; Roy B. (Merilyn) Devenish, of Spanish Fork; David L. (DeeAnn) Devenish, of Richfield; Craig T. (Barbara) Devenish, of Spanish Fork; 19 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Louise King, of Provo; and a brother, Joseph "Bud" Johnson, of Springville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Verl; six brothers; one sister; a son-in-law, Lee Hansen; and two grandsons. The family would like to extend their thanks to Kim for her tender care, to Jane from Alpine Home Care, and to Lou, Connie, Max, and Claudia from Hearts for Hospice. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at 10 a.m., in the Spring Creek South Stake Center at 400 North 400 East in Springville. There will be a viewing held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, in Springville; and, Tuesday, at the church one hour prior to the services. Guest Book Flowers Charities Johnston, Mildred Elaine R. Mildred Johnston, age 90, died December 8, 2005, in St. George, Utah. She was born July 2, 1915, to Mable Jones Rawlings and Seth Clarence Rawlings. She spent her childhood years living in Vineyard, Utah. She married Lee Johnston on July 17, 1934. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on January 18, 1935. They were married for 52 years, before the passing of Lee in 1996. She is survived by her daughters: Shirley (Gary) Luke, Marilyn (Richard) Mower, bother of St. George, Utah; Laura McDermott, of Clearfield, Utah; and Cathy (Jim) Sutton, of Layton, Utah. She is also survived by a brother, Roy (Marilyn) Rawlings, of St. George, Utah. She had 20 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren. Much of her lifetime, she was employed as a nurse at Utah Valley Hospital, then for Dr. Lloyd L. Cullimore; and then, at the BYU Health Center, where she worked until she retired. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and nurse. She and Lee took many of the grandchildren on rock hunting trips with them, as they were avid Rock Hounds. They loved spending time at their cabin in American Fork Canyon with family and friends. After they retired, they took trips to Europe, Alaska, and other parts of the country, which they enjoyed very much. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E. Law, Lawrence Jensen "Larry" Lawrence J. Law, 56, died in Spring, TX of complications due to brain cancer 12/5/05. He was born on 5/16/69 in Heber City. He was known for his dry sense of humor that would often surprise unsuspecting listeners. Larry graduated with Bachelor's and Master's degrees in English literature from BYU. He realized his dream of authorship when he wrote and published a mystery novel about a Vietnam veteran two years ago. He lived in Utah; Idaho, where he graduated from Kuna High; California, Georgia, Florida, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Texas. He was a devout member of the LDS Church and was known for his brilliant grasp of the scriptures. He served in numerous positions including bishoprics and, often was called to be the gospel doctrine teacher, because of his knowledge of scripture, church history, and doctrine. He married Salem native, Margie Farley, in 1971, and had five children. They were later divorced in 1998. He is survived by his wife, Angie; parents, Maurice and Joanne; siblings, Lloyd, Barbara, Nancy, and Maureen; children, Stephanie (32), Clayton (31), Alma (29), Chris (26), and Paige (18); and grandchildren, Zak (5), Kaylie (4), Miriam (2), Ammon Lawrence (3 mo) and two more baby granddaughters on the way. Nelson, William Boyd "Milkman/McGee" Salina, Utah - William Boyd Nelson, age 79, died December 8, 2005, at his home in Salina after a valiant battle with liver cancer. He was born November 10, 1926, in Widtsoe, Utah, a son of Fredrick Theodore and Matilda Pauline Hoffman Nelson. Boyd graduated from North Sevier High School, Class of 1945. He married Doris Lorraine Nielsen, July 8, 1947, in Salina, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple. Lorraine died November 19, 1996. Boyd married Betty Minty Barney Julander, April 1, 2005, in Elsinore, Utah. Boyd was a member of the LDS Church, having served as a ward clerk and secretary in High Priest Group. He also served on the Salina City Council for four years. Boyd served as a Little A League coach for four years. He owned the B - L Drive-In in Salina for 14 years and every employee loved working for him. He delivered milk for Highland Dairy for 28 years and was known as "The Milkman." Boyd managed the Utah State Liquor Store in Salina for 28 years; and, he also enjoyed farming for many years. Boyd was a great fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He is survived by his wife, Betty M. Julander Nelson, of Elsinore; two sons: Brett W. (Rusti B.) Nelson, of Salina; Rocky B. (Shonnie) Nelson, of Springville; six grandchildren: Beau W. (April) Nelson, of Mississippi; Devin B. Nelson and Shyanne A. Nelson, both of Salina; Erica (Charles) Madon, Julie Nelson, and Tyler Nelson, all of Springville; three great-grandchildren; step-children: Carl (Jeanene) Julander, of Richfield; Ethel (DeVon) Koyle, of Orem; 15 step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild; sister, Betty Nelson, of Springville. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Lorraine; parents, Fred and Matilda Nelson; and a brother, Bob Nelson. Smith, Harvey Eugene Harvey Eugene Smith, our loving dad, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away peacefully at his home in Pleasant Grove at the age of 88. He was born June 1, 1917 in Pleasant Grove to George LeRoy and Avis Mills Smith. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, attended BYU, and graduated from the Idaho State College of Pharmacy in 1938. He returned home to marry his high school sweetheart Josephine Farr in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1938. They cherished 60 beautiful years together and are now sweetly reunited for eternity. Harvey not only lived in, but also loved his community. He served as Mayor of Pleasant Grove at the young age of 30 and was an avid supporter of Strawberry Days throughout his life. Harvey served as the President of the Alpine School Board and Utah State School Board Association. He was on the Board of Directors of the National School Board Association. He owned and operated Smith Drug in Pleasant Grove for most of his life. Harvey was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served as Bishop of the Manila Ward, as a Patriarch in the Grovecreek and Northfield Stakes, and a Sealer in the Provo Temple. Harvey enjoyed doing things with and for his family. He raised registered quarter horses and enjoyed the companionships of many special dogs. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, BYU Athletics, and the National Finals Rodeo. He is survived by four children: Craig and Linda Smith, Pleasant Grove; Sheryl and Jerry Harris, Burbank, WA; Jolynne and Mark Goodman, Pleasant Grove; Suzanne and Brent Keetch, Pleasant Grove; 18 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and brother, Don and Betty Smith, Pleasant Grove. His wife, Josephine and his brother, Richard, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 13, 2005 in the Northfield Third Ward Chapel, 2155 North 100 East, Pleasant Grove. Wood, Violet Spendlove Violet Spendlove Wood, 92, died on December 6, 2005. Violet was born on April 9, 1913, in Hurricane, UT, the fourth of nine children of Joseph Walter and Nettie Ann Sanders Spendlove. Violet graduated from Dixie College, with a teaching certificate in 1932, and taught school in Gunlock for two years. Violet married LuWayne Wood, also of Hurricane, in Las Vegas, on May 26, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They became the parents of five children. Violet and LuWayne made their first home in Boulder City, Nevada, where LuWayne began a 41-year career with the Southern California Edison Company. His job took them to Big Creek, California, in 1949, and on to Arcadia, California, in 1959. After retirement, Violet and LuWayne returned to southern Utah in 1979, settling in St. George. Violet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church callings included teaching in most of the auxiliaries and serving as president of the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's MIA. Violet is survived by her children: Dr. O. Lew Wood (Yvonne), of Murray, Utah; Sylvia Sawyer (Mel), of Orem, Utah; Roberta Jugant (Gerard), of Palo Alto, California; and Douglas Wood (Barbara), of Orem, Utah; her siblings: Cliff Spendlove (Jan), and France Spendlove (Dorothy), all of Hurricane, Utah; and Mary Gibson (Mads), of Boulder City, Nevada. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, LuWayne; her daughter, Sandra; her brothers: Jack, Jim, and Ray Spendlove: her sisters, Annie White and Clara Brayton; and her grandson, Blaine Wood. Funeral services will be held at on Monday, December 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. George 4th Ward Chapel, 440 S. 300 East, St. George. Friends may call prior to the services at the chapel from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at 3 p.m. the same day at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
