She left this earth on December 10, 2005. She graduated from Provo High School. She married Jerry J. Gillies (Capt. USAF, Retired) in 1946. She received her degree in accounting from S.L.C.C. back when it was called Trade Tech. She worked for Sears in Salt Lake City and in Provo for twenty years. She really loved her job. Isabel and Jerry were very active in their church, Westvale Presbyterian, in West Valley City, and the Church of Christ in Provo. She was Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star and involved with Jerry in his Masonic duties. They were always well met when traveling around the West to visit other lodges. In the latter years, she battled a variety of health issues, which she faced with an amazing amount of patience and grace. She left this world surrounded by loving family at East Lake Care Center in Provo. Our thanks to all the staff who loved her as much as we did. She is survived by a sister, Kathryn Bates (Burlin), of Lehi; her son, David Gillies (Bernadette), of Holladay; and a granddaughter, Brittnee Ewart (Mark), of Lehi. Her humor, sweetness, and patience will be missed by all who knew her. All who would like to pay their respects are invited to join us at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo, on Wednesday, December 14, 2005, at 11 a.m., Friends may call at the mortuary on Wednesday one hour prior to services. Smith, Harvey Eugene ~Correction~ Harvey Eugene Smith, passed away peacefully at his home in Pleasant Grove, at the age of 88. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2005 in the Northfield Third Ward Chapel, 2155 N. 100 East, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove; and, at the church on Tuesday one hour prior to service. Published in the Daily Herald on 12/12/2005. Wood, Violet Spendlove Violet Spendlove Wood, 92, died on December 6, 2005. Violet was born on April 9, 1913, in Hurricane, UT, the fourth of nine children of Joseph Walter and Nettie Ann Sanders Spendlove. Violet graduated from Dixie College, with a teaching certificate in 1932, and taught school in Gunlock for two years. Violet married LuWayne Wood, also of Hurricane, in Las Vegas, on May 26, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They became the parents of five children. Violet and LuWayne made their first home in Boulder City, Nevada, where LuWayne began a 41-year career with the Southern California Edison Company. His job took them to Big Creek, California, in 1949, and on to Arcadia, California, in 1959. After retirement, Violet and LuWayne returned to southern Utah in 1979, settling in St. George. Violet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church callings included teaching in most of the auxiliaries and serving as president of the Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's MIA. Violet is survived by her children: Dr. O. Lew Wood (Yvonne), of Murray, Utah; Sylvia Sawyer (Mel), of Orem, Utah; Roberta Jugant (Gerard), of Palo Alto, California; and Douglas Wood (Barbara), of Orem, Utah; her siblings: Cliff Spendlove (Jan), and France Spendlove (Dorothy), all of Hurricane, Utah; and Mary Gibson (Mads), of Boulder City, Nevada. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, LuWayne; her daughter, Sandra; her brothers: Jack, Jim, and Ray Spendlove: her sisters, Annie White and Clara Brayton; and her grandson, Blaine Wood. Funeral services will be held at on Monday, December 12, at 11:30 a.m. at the St. George 4th Ward Chapel, 440 S. 300 East, St. George. Friends may call prior to the services at the chapel from 10-11 a.m. Interment will be at 3 p.m. the same day at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
