Death resulted from head injuries. The Accidental fall(s) occurred at home after returning from his doctors' appointment. Sherman Kay is survived by Bart and Brent Kay. Bart Kay lives in Sunnyvale, California. Brent Kay lives in Dayton Nevada with is wife Amanda, their three children Liam, Noah and Meredith Kay. Sherman is the Son of Levi Ross Kay and Grace Bills Kay of Provo Utah. Sherman is survived by his Brother Chuck Kay living in Provo Utah. Sherm especially loved his aunt Rita Stewart and Rita's Daughter Patricia Dixon. All are invited to the memorial service at 11:00 am, Friday, December 16, 2005 at Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Fernley, NV. McGuire, Fay Fay White McGuire, 96, returned peacefully to our Heavenly Father on December 15, 2005. Our precious mother and grandmother, known to many as "Nanny" or "Nan", was born to George Washington White and Goldia Mae (Yates) White on November 21, 1909 in Belegrade, Montana. The family moved to the Boise Valley in Idaho when she was about 9 years old. They settled in Meridian, where she lived most of her life. She attended school there and graduated from Meridian High School in 1927. She married Clarence McGuire; they lived in Meridian until 1949 when they moved to Twin Falls to operate the Frame Trout Farm. Clarence died in 1965 and Fay returned to Meridian in 1974. Fay was a life long member of the Meridian Methodist Church. "Nanny's" sweet smile and keen sense of humor will be remembered by all who love her. We know she has found happiness in the special reunion with her beloved husband, Clarence, her parents, her sister Fern Kreiger and brother Floyd White and loved ones she has missed so much. She is survived by her children, daughter, VaNita (Vernon) Law, Provo, Utah and son, Delbert (Jean) McGuire of Twin Falls, Idaho, 11 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 10 great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and many friends. Our sincere thanks to those in the Beehive Home who loved and cared for her, especially Dede, Patti, Kathy, Karen, Jeannette, Gahambo, Becky, Maria, Lupe, Haley and Alicia. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street in Orem. Published in the Daily Herald on 12/16/2005. Oates, Florence Marsh Provo, UT - Florence Marsh Oates, 94, died December 10, 2005 in Provo, Utah. She was born July 7, 1911 in Almo, Idaho to John and Florence Green Marsh. She was delivered by her grandmother, Annie Green, the local midwife, in her grandparents' log cabin. The family lived in Salt Lake City until she was 11 years old. In 1922 they moved to Los Angeles, California where she graduated from Lincoln high School with honors and attended Sawyer Business College for one year. On February 4, 1932 she married Ernest Oates in Glendale, California and they were sealed in the Mesa, Arizona Temple four days later. She was very active in the LDS Church, serving in many capacities over the years: Relief Society President twice, MIA President, Stake Relief Society and MIA boards, Sunday School and Primary teachers, Stake Gleaner President, visiting teacher for all her adult life. She and Ernest served both a stake mission and a full time mission in the Northern States Mission in Canton, Illinois. Always active in the community, she served as PTA President at the elementary and Junior High levels and received an honorary lifetime membership in that organization. She was also involved in Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts while the family lived in Pasadena, California. Their home was always open to young people, many of whom stayed for extended periods, including eight years of housing missionaries. In 1973 she and Ernest moved to Bloomington, Utah where they soon became involved in church and civic affairs. She was a Temple worker, a Pink Lady at the hospital, and was President of the Southwest Series (now the Celebrity Series). They traveled the world over many times, and when Ernest died in 1996, they had just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary. Her love and devotion were to her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her daughters, Irene Cattani of Tempe, AZ; Diane (Phil) Nolen of Greenwood Village, CO; foster son, Edward J.(Gayle) Wells of Moraga, CA; daughter-in-law, Selene Oates of Provo, UT; 24 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Rex (Ann) Marsh of Orem. UT. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Oates, son Ernest D. Oates, daughter Elaine Woolley, son-in-law Ray Cattani, brother Lewis Marsh, and sister Ruth Fryling. Services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2005, 10 a.m., Southgate LDS Ward, Mulberry Chapel, 3371 Mulberry Dr., St. George, Utah. Viewing will be Friday, December 16, 2005, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., St. George, UT. Smith, Afton Taft Afton Taft Smith, 84, died December 15, 2005 at Robbins Care Center in Payson, Utah. Born August 29, 1921 in Santaquin, Utah to William Clifford and Olive Ethel Taft Smith. He attended schools in Santaquin and Payson. Following school Afton served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theater as a member of the U.S. Navy. He worked for many years as a machinist at Geneva Steel. Afton loved horses all his life and was a skilled horseman. In 1946, he married Jeanne White in Salt Lake City. She died in 1988. In 1990 he married Claudette James Cook and spent many happy years with her. She died in 1999. Afton is survived by five sisters and two brothers: Geneve Henderson (his twin), Lasca Keele, Audra Hendrickson, Leo C. Smith, Anna Lou Robertson, Jaye B. Smith, Diane Cales; and numerous nieces and nephews. The Smith family would like to thank the staff of Robbins Care Center for their loving care of our dear brother. Thompson, Opal Fuller St. George, Utah - Opal Fuller Thompson, 93, passed away Wednesday, December 14, 2005 in St. George. She was born January 17, 1912, in Ashland, Alabama to Archie Fuller and Mildred Glen Fuller. She married Jesse L. Thompson on November 18, 1944 in Phoenix City, Alabama (Opal and Jesse were sealed in the Temple in 1977). Opal attended school in Alabama, and after graduation she worked as a seamstress at a clothing company. After she married Jesse, they started their family in Alabama, and in 1945 moved to Price, Utah, where she was a homemaker. In 1960 she moved to Salt Lake City and worked for Osborn Apparel for 19 years. She moved back to Price, where she lived for the next ten years. She continued to live in Northern Utah until 2001, when she moved to St. George. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Opal has been very devoted to Temple Work and Family History. She loved quilting, sewing, painting, bowling, and telling her childhood stories to her grandchildren. Opal is survived by her: daughter, Kathryn VanderWerff, Orem, UT; sons, Thomas Lars (Barbara) Thompson, Snohomish, WA, and Jesse (LeAnn) Thompson, Jr., St. George, UT; 17 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse, August 8, 1969; four brothers and two sisters; and son-in-law, Fred Dowie VanderWerff. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 17, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Price City 5th Ward Chapel, 400 North 600 East, Price, UT. Visitation will be Saturday, Noon until 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel, prior to the service. Interment will be at the Price City Cemetery.
