She was born on July 12, 1924 to William Lee and Ella Frances Searcy Crosby in Newberry, Florida. She graduated from high school in Brooksville, Florida. Ella Mae married LaVar Willard Christiansen on June 3, 1943 in Tampa, Florida. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple in 1963. They lived in Spanish Fork, Utah for over 40 years. LaVar passed away on October 1, 2000. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings during her life. She was also a Cub Scout leader. She enjoyed needlework, crocheting, and quilting. She was an expert gardener and did a lot of canning for her family. Most of all, Ella Mae loved her family and devoted her life to them as a Mother and Grandmother. She is survived by three sons and one daughter; Daniel (Kristin) of Vernal, UT., Benny (Leslie) of Morgan, UT. and Larry (Ilene) Christiansen of Clearfield, UT. and Kathy Clegg of Tuscaloosa, MS. She is also survived by a sister, Gladys Jennings of Brooksville, FL., 22 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and eight siblings. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork at 10 a.m. Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6 -8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 8:45 -9:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Guest Book Flowers Charities Ferguson, Annora "Ann" Annora "Ann" Ferguson Annora "Ann" Ferguson, 93, died December 16, 2005. Ann was born June 20, 1912, in Brigham City, Utah. She spent the majority of her married life in Fresno, Calif. After the death of her husband in 1962, she remained in Fresno for a short time. The next 40 years she spent in Provo, 20 of which she worked as an executive secretary to the Presidents of BYU. The last two years she spent with her daughter in Arroyo Grande, Calif., where she died at home with her family. Ann is survived by her sister, Helen Huggins of Bear River, Utah; three children, James Ferguson of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nancy Sipes of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Jeannie Davis of Reno, Nev.; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Ferguson; five siblings; and seven grandchildren. Arrangements are under the direction of Marshall-Spoo Sunset Funeral Chapel in Grover Beach, Calif. Published in the Daily Herald on 12/23/2005. Hiatt, Dean Luther Dean L. Hiatt passed away December 22, 2005 at his home in Payson, Utah. Dean was born September 30, 1931 in Payson and was the thirteenth of fourteen children born to William Luther and Mary Jane Moore Hiatt. He grew up in Payson and attended school there, graduating from Payson High School in 1949. He was active in sports and participated in basketball, football and track. Dean married Luva Dawn Schaugaard on March 9, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. They are the parents of six children; Christine Johnson of Payson, Janet (Ken) Kelley of Santaquin, Jimmy Dean (Maxine) Hiatt of Spanish Fork, and Kevin Reid Hiatt of Springville, David L. (Diann) Hiatt, and Steven Glen (Sandra) Hiatt, all of Payson. Dean was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and until his health prevented him from attending, he was always active in his church and held many different positions. During his life he had many different occupations. He worked for the railroad, the Forest Service, Geneva Steel, Johnson Tire Service and others, but his love was farming. He was happiest on the farm with his brothers and nephews or on the Franz Ranch in Wyoming. Dean is survived by his wife and children, 26 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and three sisters; Renee (Darrol) Fluckiger of Bedford, Wyoming, Helen (Keith) Andreason of Payson, Utah and Barbara (Gale) Dedrickson of Spanish Fork, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and ten brothers and sisters; William Earl, Mary Beatrice, Erma Elizabeth, Harold, Donna Ann, Gwen, Wayne, Rex Arnold, Norma, Reid Moore Hiatt; one grandson, Jacob Blaine Hiatt and one Son-in-law, Michael Johnson. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 11:00 AM in the Payson Mountain View Stake Center, 75 South 600 East. McPhie, Marvel Maud Heber City - Our most beloved mother, Marvel Maud Epperson McPhie 93, precious grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, returned to her Father in Heaven after a long illness attributed to Alzheimer's disease, and incident to age, on December 19, 2005 in Heber City. Maud was born to Sidney H. and Lelia May Alexander Epperson, in Midway Utah, on January 31, 1912. She married Leslie McPhie October 17, 1929, in Coalville, Utah. Solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, May 12, 1948. Maud attended Wasatch County schools, graduating from WHS in 1929. She delilghted in attending her class reunions. She was compassionate, gracious, out going individual who made friends wherever she went. Her life was one of service, to her family, her church and community, and was happiest always, while serving others. She was a proud and loving mother to her "four handsome sons," as she called them. Maud was a faithful member of the LDS Church, and was called to many positions throughout her lifetime where she served with dedication and a happy heart. She especially loved serving in the Young Woman's Program. She was a volunteer and officer with the Local Red Cross unit, The Grey Ladies in the 40's-50's. She was a member of the Pink Ladies Organization for many years until her illness. She was extremely proud of her heritage and was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a long time member of the Ladies Study Club, and the Heber Valley Women's Riding Club. She loved her family, and was an excellent cook. She loved to entertain and have family parties. She had a wonderful sense of humor and she so loved and enjoyed her five sisters, they had a lot of fun together throughout their lifetime. She worked for the Valley and Palace Drug Stores in Heber City for more than 30 years, where she offered much love and cheer to everyone she came in contact with, and possibly a home remedy or two. She was a caring, fun loving grandmother to her 14 grandchildren, making each feel they were her favorite, special and loved. She loved going to their activities, and was proud of each one. She enjoyed going on tours with her friends and family to historic places across the U.S., and the Hawaiian Islands. Maud is survived by her four sons and their wives: Bob and Mitzie McPhie, Joe and Gaye McPhie, Charles and Larna McPhie, all of Heber, and Richard and Nancy McPhie of Ogden, three of her seven siblings, Reva Allison of Heber, Evelyn and Jay Fry, of Salt Lake City, Edra Paul of Orem, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Simmons, of Midway, and Gene Mullinax of Diamond Bar, California. Also surviving are her 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grand-children, and five great-great grandchildren, and many dear nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Les, parents, granddaughter Wendy Mcphie, grandsons Bart McPhie, and great grandsons Tyrel McPhie and Kelly Corless. Her brothers Sidney Drew, and Dow Epperson, sisters, Betty Mullinax and LaVonne Simmons. The family wishes to extend their most heartfelt thanks to the blessed staff at Rocky Mountain Care Center in Heber, who have so lovingly and compassionately cared for our dear mother for the past several years. We appreciate you more than you could possibly know each and every one. John Earl Rowley, 93, died December 20, 2005 of congestive heart failure at Cove PointRetirement Center in Provo, Utah. He was born in Summit, Utah November 8, 1912, to Joseph Hyrum and Alice Beecroft Rowley. He married Shirley E. Staker in 1934. They were later divorced. He married Jennie L. Freckleton in 1946. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She died in 1971. He then married Gertrude C. Coombs in the Provo Temple in 1972. She died in 2001. John graduated from the old Lincoln High School in Orem, Utah. He later graduated from the U. S. Maritime Engineering School at Alameda, California. He served in the U.S. Maritime Merchant Marines during World War II, in both the Pacific and Atlantic theaters. John worked on the Hoover Dam in Nevada. He lived and worked in San Francisco for 12 years. During that time both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Bay Bridge were built. He was employed at BYU for 25 years. When John retired, Gertrude and he enjoyed traveling.He was BYU's #1 fan. Blue is hisfavorite color! He enjoyed traveling with the Cougar Club and with family and friends to many football games. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.He served as the first Bishop of the Provo 20th ward and was in the first Branch Presidency at Cove Point Retirement Center. He served at the Provo Temple for many years. He was a faithful HomeTeacher. John is survived by his daughters, Pattie (Bob) Drennan, Sonora, California; Alice L. Rowley, Springville, Utah and step daughter, Diana J. Coombs, Sylmar, California. Eight Grandchildren. Twenty four Great Grandchildren, nine Great, Great Grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wives, daughter DeDe Adams and his brothers and sisters. Smith, Rosemary Madsen WEST POINT - On Tuesday, December 20, 2005, Rosemary Smith, 58, left us to be with her grandmothers and grandfathers. She was born September 18, 1947 to Sheldon and Dorothy Madsen of Lakeview, Utah. In her childhood years, she was a big sister to Michael (Aleta), Lee (Kathy), and Shirlee (Brad Christiansen). She attended Orem High School and during that time she met James Ogden Smith. On February 23, 1968, Rosemary and Ogden were married in the Manti Temple. They moved to the small community of West Point, Utah. Two years after their marriage they had a daughter, Gwendolyn and a year later a son, Mat Sloan. She enjoyed camping in the outdoors, music and her church. Her greatest love was children and teaching. She spent over a quarter of a century as a school teacher at Vae View Elementary. In the church, she spent many years as a Primary teacher as well as a church organist. Her love of children was especially great for her grandchildren, Gwen and Tyler's children, Brooklyn, Bill, Lexus, Mercedes, and Mat's daughter, Haileigh. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27th at 11:00 a.m. at the West Point 3rd Ward Chapel, 800 North 4000 West, West Point. The family will meet friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist's Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South and Tuesday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., at the church. Interment, West Point Cemetery.
