Published in the Daily Herald on 12/25/2005. Madsen, Kathleen Kathleen Madsen, devoted mother, cherished daughter, beloved sister, and favored aunt, returned to her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours of December 23, 2005, attended by loving family members at her home in Pleasant Grove, at the age of 51. Kathleen finished the good fight and exhibited exceptional courage, as she tenaciously battled a reoccurrence of cancer over the past 12 months. She never relinquished the hope that she would live to finish raising her precious, young son, Christopher. It was her only desire. Kathleen was born November 30, 1954, at Ford Ord, California, the first surviving child of Boyd D. Madsen and Norma Burnside. She attended school primarily in Provo, Utah, and Fredonia, Arizona, and spent several years living in Southern California, before returning to Utah to live in her quaint Pleasant Grove home for the past 12 years. She loved her little home. Kathleen served as an accountant for different businesses; and, when she wasn't at work, she was all about having fun, particularly with her children. Kathleen adored family parties, especially Christmas parties, and always brought the perfect gift for each niece, nephew, sister, and brother. In her quiet moments, Kathleen created amazing needlepoint canvases and crocheted wonderful gifts. Kathleen's dream was to collect and breed rare animals and to create a business called "Chris' Critter Castle." She will long be remembered for her extensive collection of lovable (and nocturnal) critters. Kathleen was a very devoted mother and the highlight of her final year was a trip to Disney World and Sea World, with her sons, in April. Kathleen was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and found her special place teaching Primary. She loved her Primary children, but she described her son, Christopher, as her "heart and soul" and he truly is just that. Kathleen was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Burnside; and is survived by her three children: Lee Douglas Milburn (28), Elizabeth (Mitch) Carlson (21), and Christopher Jordan Madsen (12). She leaves behind two brothers, Gregory Brent (Annette) Madsen and Martin Bruce (Belinda) Larson; three sisters: Debra (Martin) Hortt; Brenda (Brad) Freeman, Charlotte (David) Day; and her devoted father, Boyd D. Madsen, all of whom were able to enjoy a Christmas celebration with her just days before her passing. We will always remember her humor and dignity, while facing exceptional challenges. She will be greatly missed and always remembered. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove, where friends may call from 9:30-10:45 a.m. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery under the direction of Olpin Family Mortuary, Pleasant Grove.
