Fleming, Claudia Leola Duncan Claudia Leola Duncan Fleming died at the Stonewood Manor Assisted Living Center in Orem, Utah on January 15, 2005, ten days after celebrating her 94th birthday. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia on January 5, 1911 to Edgar Parks Duncan and Lillie Mae Ogles Duncan. Her parents were early converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Atlanta area and she was baptized into the Church at age eight. Claudia had a keen mind, a remarkable memory, and a great interest in education. Thus, she was greatly disappointed when her family's financial circumstances forced her to end her formal education at age 14 and begin working. By necessity and determination, she became a self-educated secretary. She married Joseph Clifton (Joe) Fleming in Atlanta in 1928. They were sealed in the Provo Temple in 1974.From age 14 until her first child was born in 1942, Claudia worked as a secretary for various businesses in Atlanta. After her children entered elementary school, she worked for several years for the City of Atlanta and then for the parole office of the Atlanta Federal Penitentiary until 1970. This enabled her to provide her two sons with university educations. Claudia and Joe enjoyed regularly traveling in the Western United States and in 1970 Joe retired and he and Claudia moved to Mesa, Arizona. They lived there together until his death in 1994.Claudia stayed on in Mesa until declining health forced her to move to Orem, Utah in 1998 to facilitate care giving by her family. Claudia served in numerous positions in the LDS Church and was extraordinarily productive in family history. She researched, submitted and performed proxy work for scores of her and Joe's ancestors. She enjoyed working in the Mesa, Arizona Temple until health problems forced her to end that service. Claudia spent her last 6-1/2 years as a resident of Stonewood Manor in Orem where she could be close to family. She fought bravely against the challenges of her declining health with assistance from the staffs of Stonewood Manor, First Choice Home Health Care and Hearts for Hospice. She was always grateful for the unfailing kindness that she received from these three organizations and her family expresses their deepest appreciation to the generous and gentle women who cared for her. Claudia is survived by two sons, J. Clifton Fleming, Jr. (Linda) of Orem and Ansley Duncan Fleming (Nancy) of Little Rock, Arkansas, a sister Gladys Chesser of Houston, Texas, a sister-in-law Della Ford (Jim) of Jefferson, Georgia, and by six grandchildren: Allison Yearout (Kelley) of Los Angeles, Erin Fleming of Los Angeles, Anne Fleming of Orem, Matthew C.
