He was born September 19, 1913, in Nephi, Utah, to Joseph Marion and Louisa Ann Allen Christensen. He married Enid Brough, September 23, 1936, in the Manti Temple. Grandpa was a very loving husband to his wife, Enid, and shared a very close relationship with her in their elderly years. They were married 68 years. He worked for 40 years in the rubber manufacturing industry and was a charter member of the Nephi Lions Club. Grandpa served many years as a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by one son, Joseph G. (Jolene) Christensen, Nephi, UT; grandchildren: Layne (Shauna) Christensen, Conley (Michelle) Christensen, Lynnette Christensen, Colette (Tim) Stephan. Grandpa totally adored his nine great grandchildren: Haley, Aubrey, Chase, Josh, Madison, Ashley, Carson, Makenzie, and Samantha. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and two sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, February 2, 2005, in the Nephi 1st Ward, 222 South 100 East. Evans, Melvin Thomas Melvin Thomas Evans, of Pleasant Grove, returned to his loving Heavenly Father on Thursday, January 27, 2005, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Melvin was born November 25, 1921, to Mary Ann Hadden and Edwin Charles Evans in Kirtland, New Mexico. He married Beverly Lucille Morley on April 27, 1949, in the Salt Lake Temple. Melvin grew up in New Mexico and Colorado. He joined the U.S. Navy during WWII and was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked. He served for six years in the Pacific Theater as a submariner and spent some time in the Philippines. He then served in the United States Army for fourteen years. After retiring, Melvin went on to serve in the Civil Service for twenty years; and, subsequently retired. Melvin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Bishop, High Priest Group Leader, and a teacher. Melvin loved his family and many friends, whom he touched in different ways. He was loved by everyone he met and helped many throughout his life. He will be sorely missed, but we know he is in a better place. Melvin is survived by his wife, Beverly; and three sons and a daughter: Jack (Annabelle) Evans (Draper); Ronald (Carol) Evans, Florida; Anne White, Wyoming; and Jason Evans, Pleasant Grove; two sisters: Arlene Meadows, Colorado; Jean (Jack) Matthews, New Mexico; 13 grandchildren, and over 21 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and many extended family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Charles; his parents; two sisters: Vira Derrick, Dorothy Schutte; and one brother, Wilford Evans. We appreciate all the thoughts and prayers that have been extended in his behalf. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Melvin's name to the Michael J. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, Douglas S. Greenhalgh, passed away at his home on January 26, 2005, surrounded by his family. Doug was born December 2, 1945, in Payson, Utah, to Mern Tiffany and Gene W. Greenhalgh. He graduated from Provo High School in 1964. Doug began working at an early age as a paperboy for the Daily Herald, and worked his way up to circulation manager of The Daily Sun of Flagstaff, Arizona. He worked for Geneva Steel for 36 years, and continued his education, receiving two Associates Degrees, as a millwright and machinist, retiring in 2001. He served as treasurer and secretary of the United Steel Workers Union. He married Barbara Jean Lanphear on March 8, 1964m in Evanston, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Provo LDS Temple. He was an Elder and a member of the Santaquin 9th Ward, at the time of his passing. He was the co-owner and operator of Greenhalgh Orchards in Santaquin, and was also on the committee of The Cherry Central Board, at the time of his passing. Doug was a great lover of the outdoors and some of his favorite times were those spent with his friends and family camping, hunting, and golfing. He was an avid hunter throughout Utah and Canada. The greatest joy and meaning in his life was his family. He was a loving and wonderful man, and he will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife of Santaquin; his daughters, Pamila (Ron) Tuner, Kimile (Brad) Levell, and Suzanne Mylroie; and a son, Christopher Gene Greenhalgh. He was "Papa" to Kodi Lynn, Kasey Sue, Nathan, Kyleigh, Danielle, Katie and Brock. He is also survived by his father, Gene W. Greenhalgh, of Provo; two sisters and a brother: Jinean Madsen, Merrill Greenhalgh, and Maureen Thompson. He is also survived by many special friends. Johnson, Al Albert Ketchum Johnson passed away January 27, 2005, in Provo, Utah, after experiencing stomach, chest and back pain and receiving a diagnosis of metastasized pancreatic cancer on January 26, 2005, only some 24 hours prior to his passing mercifully. He was born November 30, 1922, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The firstborn of 2 sons of Charles Albert and Christine Julia Ketchum Johnson. Al will be remembered as a "greatest generation" U.S. Navy enlistee, a rumbling bass and church choir director, a fun chemistry teacher at Provo and Independence High Schools, a jester to mask stage fright, a trumpet aficionado, a vigorous and youthful reluctant retiree, at once fun-loving and shy and a lover of a good joke and chivalrous among friends, a doting husband, and the father of four daughters and four sons and a daughter who died at birth. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren. Dad, we will miss your laugh, as well as, the music from your trumpet. Haskell Kay has been missing since November 11, 2004, and was found on January 26, 2005. She was born on June 19, 1958, in Payson. She was the daughter of Eldon Haskell and Jolene Hudson Terry. She attended Payson schools and later attended Stevens-Henager College. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married Larry Swan; they were later divorced. She married Michael Kay, on June 29, 1998. Ellen was a very much loved, wife, daughter, and sister. She loved her family dearly. It was the most important thing in her life. She was a beautiful, gentle, soft-spoken woman who was fun to be around and who would always bring a smile to everyone's face. She loved children, to baby-sit, take care of and raise them. She also loved the simple things in life, like cooking, crafts, crocheting, knitting, camping, fishing, and gardening. She enjoyed playing the piano by ear. She loved animals, especially snakes and turtles. She cherished pretty much just about anytime she could spend with her family and never took for granted what she had and was always grateful for it. Even though she had a very difficult life, dealing with many different medical problems, she was always strong and determined to overcome them. She always did her best to show each and everyone just how much she loved them. Her family will miss her more than words can explain or feelings can express. She will be missed by everyone that she touched, and by anyone who knew her. Her life, memories, and legacy will never be forgotten. "We'll love her always and forever." Peterson, Millie Rose Tamietti Millie Rose Tamietti Peterson, 68, of Springville, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2005, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Dividend, UT, on January 6, 1937, to Paul John Tamietti and Flora Eliza Owen. She married Dale J. Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple on April 14, 1954. She was active in all of her church callings including Primary, Sunday School, MIA, Scouts, Relief Society, activities committees, and many roadshows. She was also actively involved in FFA, including sub-for-Santa, banquets, auctions for booster club and sweetheart contests. Millie loved golfing, camping, and boating. Her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She never missed a ballgame, school program, or any other important event in their lives. Many people were touched by her compassion. She was known for her many acts of love and service. She is survived by her husband, Dale J. Peterson; children: Gary Dale, Janet (Greg) Johnson, Dalene, and Tad (Amy) Peterson; grandchildren: Dustin Gary Peterson, Maranda (Brandon) Stradling, Deven Greg Johnson, Katie Johnson, Derek Lynn Peterson, Blake Joseph Johnson, Travis J. Peterson, Braden Bunker Peterson, Shelbie May Peterson, and Carmen Rose Peterson. Her siblings also survive her: Mary Pulsifer, Betty Pugliese, LaRue (Bert) Roylance, Dale Tamietti, Roy Tamietti; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Scarpino, Charles Victor Charles (Chuck) Victor Scarpino (Carmine Vittorio Trento), 88, of Provo, Utah, passed away January 28, 2005. Chuck was born October 11, 1916, in Sersale, Catanzaro, Italy, a son of Giovanni Carmine Scarpino and Maria Rosa Mazza. Chuck immigrated from Italy at the age of six, where his family settled in Price, Utah. Chuck attended and graduated from Carbon High School in Price, Utah. He later married Rena VanBuren of Orangeville on November 1, 1940. They were later sealed in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. Chuck and Rena moved to California, where they raised their four children. They returned to Utah in 1969, for the outdoor life Chuck loved so much, including hunting and fishing. The deer hunt was an annual family event. Outdoor life was a life-long passion, which he enjoyed until the end of his life. He was an accomplished gunsmith. Hewasknown for his beautifulvegetable garden. Chuck loved working on cars. He was an expert mechanic and loved vintage cars. He built and maintained a 1929 Model A. Chuck is survived by his wife, Rena; two daughters and one son: Nancy Passaretti, Charlotte Melendez-Christensen, Victor Scarpino; 24 grandchildren, and 43 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Don Franklin Scarpino, and his parents. Smart, Lyle John Lyle John Smart, 84, of Pleasant Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, January 28, 2005, at his home. He was born December 7, 1920, in Union, Utah, to John Henry and Fern Edith Staten Smart. He married Joyce Perkins on November 5, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lyle grew up in Union and graduated from Jordan High School. He attended Utah State University and served as a missionary for the LDS Church to the East Central States Mission. He joined the U. S. Navy and served his country during WWII. After their marriage, he and Joyce made a home in Union, where they raised their four children. Lyle and his two brothers, Verl and Wayne, owned and operated the Smartline Dairy in Sandy for over 30 years. Lyle dedicated his life to agriculture and to his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Pleasant Grove; four children: Lorin (Janet) Smart, Wallsburg; Sid (Karen) Smart, Pleasant Grove; Russell (Gloria) Smart, Sandy; and Leesa (Randy) McKee, Heber City; 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Additional survivors include his brothers: Verl (Marjorie) Smart, Bountiful; and Wayne (Deavene) Smart, Draper.
