Dewey R. Wilkinson The funeral service for former Lander resident Dewey R. Wilkinson of Riverton will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 6th and Cascade, in Lander. Visitation will be at the Davis Funeral Home in Riverton from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday evening, July 4, and one hour prior to the service at the church in Lander. Mr. Wilkinson died Thursday morning, June 30, 2005, at Wind River Healthcare in Riverton. He was 71 years old. Dewey Russell Wilkinson was born March 9, 1934, in Orem, Utah, in the home of his grandparents, Albert and Harriett (Marrott) Backus. He was the son of Dick W. and Arlene Berniece (Backus) Wilkinson. He grew up and received his education in Orem and Pleasant Grove, Utah, and was graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1952. On Nov. 6, 1953, he married Evelyn Dodge in the LDS Temple in Manti, Utah. A long-time resident of Lander, Mr. Wilkinson was initially employed with U.S. Steel Geneva Works in Orem in 1953 and was transferred to Lander in 1962 to work in the Atlantic City Ore Mine on South Pass. He began working for Gale Furniture in 1969 and later became the store's owner. He retired from the home furnishing business in Lander and Riverton in 1994. Mr. Wilkinson was a lifetime member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, a member of B.P.O.Elks Lodge No. 2317, the Junior Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, and Kiwanis. His family said Mr. Wilkinson enjoyed hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, loved to bowl, and was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed watching all sports in which his children, grandchildren, and community youth participated over the years. They said he especially loved football, particularly the Denver Broncos and BYU. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Evelyn Wilkinson, of Riverton; his mother of Orem, Utah; three sons, Doug Wilkinson and his wife Pat of Dubois, Kevin Wilkinson and his wife Sharon of Lugano, Switzerland, Jerry Wilkinson and his wife Karen of Casper; one daughter, Susan Madison and her husband Doug of Pleasant Grove, Utah; one brother, Dean Wilkinson and his wife Cec of St. George, Utah; two sisters, Jennie Lee McNeil and her husband Leon of Orem, and Wanda Robbins and her husband Kay of Manti, Utah; 18 grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father. Memorials may be made to Little Wind Hospice of Lander and Riverton, 716 College View Drive, Suite C, Riverton, WY 82501.
