Reed was born on July 17, 1917, in Hyrum, Utah. He was the oldest of three boys born to Russell Gale and Aleda Anderson Allen. Reed was raised and schooled in Hyrum, Utah. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1935. Graduated from Utah State Agriculture College in Industrial Arts in 1942, and later received his MasterÕs Degree from Utah State University. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission in Czechoslovakia. He married Pearl Irene Hofler in the Logan LDS Temple on December 21, 1939. They were blessed with four children. Reed held many administrative positions at what is now known as UVSC, retiring with 33 years of service. He also helped to establish the Navajo Community College in Many Farms, Arizona. Reed enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and family genealogy. He was a great craftsman, and historian. Reed had a remarkable memory and never forgot a name or a date. He was a member of the Sons of Utah Pioneers. He is survived by a brother, Charles A. Allen of Logan, Utah; children: Louise Brown of Tempe, Arizona; Kathryn (Roger) Edwards of Midvale, Utah; Reed R. Allen, Jr. of Provo, Utah; and Richard G. Allen of San Jose, California. He had 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren, with one more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Thair G. Allen; wife; son-in-law, Gregory S. Brown; grand son-in-law, Treavor Jolley; and a great grandson, Dylan T. Jolley. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary in Provo, 180 E. Center Street. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Pleasant View 9th Ward Chapel, 2445 N. 650 East, Provo, Utah, with a viewing at the church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. before the funeral. Brown 1931~2005 Phyllis Mary Blackham Brown, departed this life quietly, in the afternoon of the 25th of July 2005. She joins her beloved, departed husband Ted in a joyous reunion with her other family members beyond the veil. She was born March 5, 1932 in Fountain Green, Utah to: Ace Walter and Norma Elsie Mikkelsen Blackham. She is survived by her younger sister, Faye Ockey {Earl} of Salt Lake City, and her baby brother, Bevin Ace Blackham {Carol}, of Moroni, Utah. She spent her childhood in Moroni and graduated from Moroni High School in 1950. She later graduated from Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. She attended Utah State University in Logan where she received her teaching certificate. She later received her bachelors degree from Brigham Young University. She taught elementary school in Preston, Idaho; Nephi, Utah; and Santaquin, Utah. Later she taught special education at Payson Junior High. She loved learning, and was always teaching and sharing her discoveries with others. She had a special love for those who were less loveable. She was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she enjoyed teaching Relief Society and being a visiting teacher. She loved her family, her neighbors and her ward members. She was a voracious reader, and could never read enough on any subject. She had a special love for her kitties, Cleo and Minx. She met her husband at the Silver Maple gas station in Nephi, Utah and were later married on June 10, 1959 in Ely, Nevada. They were blessed with two daughters, Elizabeth and Margaret. They were sealed as an eternal family in the Manti Temple. They were loving and faithful parents. Mom instilled in us a love for learning and a fascination with everything. We went on many trips exploring the deserts and canyons surrounding Nephi. She is survived by both daughters Elizabeth Brown of Salt Lake City, (partner, Kara Cope); Margaret Steward, currently serving an LDS mission in Houston Texas (husband, Travis). Grandchildren: Daina, Ben, Hannah, MaryKate, Sam, Jacob and Lecia. A very special thanks to the nurses, aids and staff at Heritage Hills for their loving care during these past months. Hardy, Aaron Dale Aaron Dale Hardy, 84, of Springville, Utah, passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2005 in Glendale, Arizona. He had suffered a short illness following a stroke. He was born in Moroni, Utah on September 17, 1920 to John and Ella Delphia Hardy. He lived in Moroni until around 6 years old, then moved to Springville. He graduated from Springville High School in 1938. He married Isabel Leslie on June 1, 1940 which was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple in 1964. Dale worked in Portland, Oregon welding Liberty Ships during the war. He was an excellent welder and used these skills building the U.S. Steel plant at Geneva. He later became a tank salesman for Keys Tank, Hammond Iron Works, PDM, and GATX where he retired. He enjoyed most of all being with his wife and son. Together they hunted, fished, camped, played golf, and traveled. He loved golf and made several sets of golf clubs. During his retirement years, he and Isabel traveled in their fifth wheel trailer and visited much of the west. Dale was strong willed and always worked hard. He would often say, "No job is worth doing unless you do it right". He was a kidder and jokester, and loved to tell stories to anyone who would listen. He never rested or played until his work was done. He taught his family many things and we loved him very much. He was a member of the Provo Elks Lodge for 57 years. Dale is survived by his son, Robyn Dale (Judy) Hardy; four grandchildren: Nicole (Scot) Mathews, Brandon (Kenzi) Hardy, Erin (Michael) Mindes, Chad (Ashley) Hardy; and two great-grandchildren: Meagan Mathews and Rachel Mathews and two on their way. Larsen, Tyler David Tyler David Larsen Beloved son, grandson, brother and friend, Tyler David Larsen, 20, passed on to the next mission in life on July 24th, 2005. Tyler graduated from Provo High School in 2003 with honors. He had lots of great friends and teachers. Always active, Tyler loved and excelled at sports - especially football, snowboarding, biking and rollerblading. He loved the outdoors; hiking, hunting, camping, and spending time with his family. Tyler was 100% "boy" since the day he was born. His smile, sense of humor and overall zest for life was great to be around. His love and example and the twinkle in his eyes will be remembered, and greatly missed. Tyler is survived by his parents, David Larsen and Joyce Jensen of Provo/Orem, his grandmother, Fern Larsen, brothers Alex, Jake, Kyle and James, and sister Lindsay, stepdad Dean Wright, as well as many uncles, aunts, cousins, and grandparents. He is preceded in death by his grandpa, Earl Larsen. The funeral service will be held Thursday, July 28th at 11 am, at the Hillcrest LDS Chapel; 440 E. 800 S., Orem. Published in the Daily Herald on 7/27/2005. McGregor, Gerald Mark Gerald Mark McGregor, 49, from Saratoga Springs, Utah, passed away July 24, 2005. He was born February 27, 1956, to James Young and Marjorie Jane McGregor, in Covina, CA. Mark received his B.S. in Psychology which was his major and minored in Health Education in 1981 from BYU; M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy in 1985 from BYU. He was the owner of New Haven, Inc., a residential treatment center and private school for young women. Prior to that he was a Marriage and Family Therapist at FHP, Mountain View Hospital, Riverwood Hospital and Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. Mark loved swimming. He was on the BYU swim team, and was the Western Athletic Conference champion in the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. He also swam for the Santa Clara swim club in Santa Clara, California. He loved to fix things and see how things worked, he had a great love for life and learning, and loved to do anything with his wife and children. The most important thing to him was to be a great husband and father. Mark was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings including; Bishop, Elders Quorum President and High Counselor. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Ann, his four children, Jordan, age 13, Bradley, age 11, Jentry, age 8, and Jared, age 4; mother, Marjorie Jane McGregor and two brothers, Jim and Joel, both of Denver, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his father, James Young McGregor. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 29, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Saratoga Springs Stake Center, 587 South Saratoga Springs. Mills, Ted Foy Ted Foy Mills Our beloved husband and father, Ted Foy Mills, 58, passed away peacefully at home on July 24, 2005. He was born April 23, 1947 in Price, Utah to Rulon Foy and Elva Marjorie Turner Mills. He married Peggy Louise Van Stock on August 10, 2002 in Woodland Hills, Utah. Ted spent 37 years as a builder for Peay Construction. Ted is survived by his wife Peggy and children Jerry Mills (Salt Lake City), Shane Mills (Orem) and granddaughter Savanah (Cedar City). He is also survived by his four step-children Carma Karsten (Woodland Hills), Tom Fifer (Hope, Kansas), Darla Simmons (Orem) and Jill Kleier (Miller, MO.), also 6 step-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2005 at the Springville 12th Ward, 235 East 550 North in Springville. Mooney, Deon Penrod Deon Penrod Mooney passed away on July 24, 2005 at her home in Provo, Utah. She fought the valiant fight all of her life, even to the end. Deon was born on September 15, 1915 to Eugene and Sarah Goodman Penrod in Provo, Utah. She was part of a large family. She always helped out at home and next door at her grandparentÕs house. Deon was educated in the schools of Provo. She was in the first class to attend the Dixon Junior High School. She also held several jobs as a youth starting at the age of 12. Her favorite job was working at the theaters in Provo which she did after school and on weekends. She enjoyed relating the funny stories about the early films and the tricks that were played on her at work. In that day she walked more than 5 miles each day to accomplish her tasks at school and work. Though her earnings were meager, she shared them with the entire family. She also spent several years, after her children were grown, working in retail clothing where she made many friends and was a very reliable and dependable employee. Deon married Arnold Mooney and they lived in Provo where she helped care for his mother for several years. After she became a mother she channeled her time and efforts into helping her children. She made many sacrifices for them and set a great example. She raised four children: Ronald of Provo; Francis (Loa) of Cedaredge, CO; Deanne (Dan E) Kallas of Orem; and Karen (Neil) Roberts of Highland. She was blessed with 18 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was very proud of her family. Deon was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold, and grandsons Dennis Mooney and Shirl Mooney. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. Decker Roskelley July 26, 1912 Ð July 23, 2005 Melba passed away peacefully just a few days short of her 93rd birthday in Lakewood, Colorado under the loving care of her son Richard, his companion Debra and hospice care at Brighton Gardens, where she had been a resident for the past few years. She was born Melba Bennion to the late Mary Clark and Edwin Turpin Bennion in Farmington, Davis County, Utah where she grew up. She was the fourth of ten children and is survived by one brother, Owen C. Bennion, Provo, UT. Children, Diana Decker Hicks (Steve) Granite Bay, CA; Richard B. Decker, (Debra Marnocha) Lakewood, CO; seven grandchildren, Gayle Hicks Rasmussen, Roger Hicks, Thomas Hicks, Michael Hicks, Jeffrey Hicks, Sara Anne Decker, and Cory Lea Decker. She is also survived by six great-grandchildren. Melba attended the University of Utah and Brigham Young University where she met and later married her first husband, James B. Decker Jr. They were married for forty-eight years. They met during summer school at BYU and wrote letters to each other during his first year of graduate school at Harvard. He returned home to Utah during the summer and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple after which they returned to Boston together for his second year. Melba loved the opportunity to see the eastern United States and the historical sites there. She loved art and Jim loved history. Together they spent most of their spare time learning about this great country. It was grand adventure for both of them. After leaving Massachusetts, the couple lived in New Mexico for several years before moving to Denver where they made their home. While there Melba worked for the US Government and then the Jefferson County School District. After graduating from the University of Denver she began to teach for the Aurora School District. She taught grade school in the Aurora schools until she retired in 1976. She also taught piano lessons in her home and was an avid artist. She had many church callings in the LDS Church. She taught Sunday school and primary classes and could often be found at the organ or piano playing for the meetings. The family enjoyed many wonderful camping trips, and vacations together always meant road trips and lots of sight seeing all over the western US. Upon retirement the couple moved from Denver to Provo, Utah in 1976 so they could relax and enjoy travel, genealogy, BYU ballgames, and doll and antique collecting. Melba took art classes at both BYU and UVSC, and belonged to the local chapter of Daughter of Utah Pioneers, and several doll clubs. She loved antique dolls and made many friends because of her knowledge about dolls. After the death of her first husband, Melba married Willard Roskelley who preceded her in death. She was a friendly and outgoing person with a very positive outlook on life. She was generous and willing to help whenever she could. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. She was Aunt Melba to a large extended family in the most endearing way. She will be missed by all who loved her. Rothe, Sylvia Bourne Hoover Sylvia Bourne Hoover Rothe, age 89, passed peacefully away on July 24, 2005 in Provo, Utah. She was born August 30, 1915 in Lehi, Utah to Alma and Sylvia Etta Moyle Bourne. She married Robert Verdon Hoover on August 9, 1933 in Heber City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in California most of their married life. In May 1973 they returned to live in Provo, Utah. Her husband, Bob, died October 28, 1984 in Orem, Utah. She later married Fon K. Rothe on May 8, 1993 in Provo, Utah. Sylvia was active in the LDS Church. She served humbly and faithfully in various leadership positions in California and Provo. She served for three years in the Relief Society Presidency at the State Hospital in Provo. Sylvia was a giving person and had charity for all. She was preceded in death by her parents; six of her siblings; and her first husband, Bob. Sylvia is survived by her husband, Fon K. Rothe, of Provo; three sons: John (Barbara) Hoover of Watsonville, California; Gary Hoover of Bloomington, Illinois; and David (Lenore) Hoover of Springville, Utah; one step-son: Dale Rothe of Lehi, Utah; and three step-daughters: Linda (Neb) Fausett of Payson; Carolyn (Ben) Bracken of American Fork; and Sheila Arndt of Lehi; one sister, Mary Manson Reed, of Oakland, California. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren, and 16 step great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the LDS Chapel, 50 South 900 East in Provo. Toone, William Arnold William Arnold Toone "Billy" March 31, 1979 Ð July 22, 2005 Our beloved son, grandson, father and brother went home to be with our Lord on July 22, 2005 after losing a long battle with drug addiction. He loved his three daughters with all his heart and wanted to be a great dad for them. To those of us who knew his real heart, he was an exceptional person who had overcome many difficult circumstances in his short time here on earth. He had an extremely close relationship with his siblings and for the most part, he was a dedicated big brother. We will all miss him more than he can imagine. Billy is survived by his parents: Jeff and Janel Kobylanski, and Todd Toone; his grandparents: Janet Peterson, Mel and Judy Peterson, Marilyn Kobylanski, Lynn and Darla Toone, and Joan Edwards; aunts and uncles: Mike and Lauri Murray, Mark and Linda Peterson, Kristie Border, Clay and Vickie Kone, Wendy Mikkelson, Steve Toone and Carrie Toone; brothers: Alfonso and Rocky Gallegos; sisters: Brandi Toone (Jeremy) Rohwer, Roxanne Peterson and Alicia Gallegos; his three daughters: Kira, Tristan and Maia, and the mothers of his daughters, Jamie Greenig and Rose Benson. He was preceded in death by his two great-grandfathers, whom he was named after, William Green and Arnold Peterson, and by his two great-grandmothers, Dorothy Green and Viola Peterson. Although LexiÕs life was short upon this earth, her life had tremendous impact on her family and friends as she suffered mortality and offered love and faith to those who knew her and her family. Alexis is survived by her parents Wayne and Alene; brothers Tobyn and Kysen; sisters Lorina and Lynzie; grandparents David and Fontella Hunt and Marvin and Barbara Weakley; great grandma Dean Hamblin; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her brother Kyler, sister Maygen, her aunt Lorina Weakley, and her great grandparents.
