Tony W. Elkins Our beloved son, brother and loving uncle, Tony W. Elkins, 36, passed away June 11, 2005 in Provo, Utah. He was born February 24, 1969 in Provo to Ralph and Rhea Elkins. Tony loved cutting hair for friends and family. He had a love for camping and was the instigator of many water fights. He is survived by his mother Rhea Elkins Coombs and stepfather, David Coombs; three brothers, Kevin (Pam) Elkins, Todd (Pamela) Elkins, Jared (Christine) Elkins; six sisters, Nancy (Gary) Adams, Deborah (James) Maynard, Carrie (Tom) Cherrington, Pam (Reed) Cowan, Peggy (Sam) Ostler, Stacy (Chris) Barnier; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Elkins. A memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 17, 2005 at the Hillcrest 3rd Ward, 1450 South 800 East in Orem. Griggs, Ronald Maynard Ronald Maynard Griggs Ronald Maynard Griggs, 77, passed away June 13, 2005, in Orem, Utah, after a short illness. He was born June 8, 1928, in Eureka, Utah, and was the only son of Maynard E. and Thelma Potts Griggs. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Tintic High School in 1945. He married Jackie Laine Porter Jackson on May 2, 1968, and she preceded him in death. He married Emma Sargent on May 7, 1988. Ron had a love for music all his life. He played trumpet in many jazz bands in high school and college, and one of the highlights of his life was playing with Les Brown and his Band of Renown, and Doris Day in Salt Lake City, Utah. Ron received teaching and music degrees from BYU. He taught band at Goshen High for a short time and then moved to Tintic High School where he taught until his retirement in 1987. He received many awards for his outstanding teaching accomplishments. He was named teacher of the year for the State of Utah in 1975-76 and also received outstanding Rural School Secondary Teacher award in 1984. Ron loved his teaching career and loved all of his students. His best memories were his students and the experiences they had with the marching bands. His marching bands were very popular and successful and received many awards, including a proclamation from Governor Calvin Rampton and recognition from President Ronald Reagan. His students loved and revered him as he helped them to succeed in many areas of their lives. Ron was called to be Bishop of the Eureka Ward in 198l. As a bishop, Ron showed love and compassion to all members of the community regardless of their denomination. Ron was active with AA and helped many people in recovery. Ron was a loving and caring son and husband. He patiently cared for his mother in her later years and his first wife, Jackie, until her death. Ron was a much loved step-father and grandfather to Emma's family. He was fun and caring and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Ron is survived by his wife Emma, his five step-children and their spouses, Byron Sargent (Lynda), Francene Sargent Wood (Carl), Susan Sargent Gibbs, Robyn Sargent, and Lisa Sargent Peterson (Jamie), 14 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and cousins Richard and Diane Bauer, David and Janet Bauer, and Don and Diane Peterson. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, at 11:00 a.m., in the Orem Northridge 13th Ward Chapel, 1660 North 200 West, Orem, Utah. There will be a viewing at the chapel on Friday, June 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Eureka, Utah cemetery. Hood Jr., Howard Thomas Howard Thomas Hood Jr. Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, and friend Howard Thomas Hood Jr., 53, passed unexpectedly from this life into the next on Saturday, June 11, 2005 as a result of an ATV accident. Howard was born December 4, 1951 in Pittsburg, CA to Howard Thomas Hood Sr. (who preceded him in death) and Imogene Hibbard Chomor. Howard lived life to the fullest, he always said "work hard, play hard, and you can rest later" - that is just what he did. He loved the outdoors. He loved hunting and fishing with his friends. Pheasant hunting with his dogs brought him much happiness. He enjoyed four-wheeling, hiking, skiing, archery and golfing. He was very adventurous, traveling to Alaska and all over the U. S. on hunting trips. He was very creative, taking pride in the projects he designed and built. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family, of which he was so proud. Howard accomplished many things and lived a full life. He was state champion in archery. He was State employee of the Year. He served in the Kansas City, Kansas Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was an active member and served in various church callings. He was a natural leader and reached the tops of many mountains. He attended UVSC before marrying Diane Leavitt. Together they had four beautiful daughters and resided in Orem for 25 years. He recently married Rachel Warburton; they found pleasure in one another's company by traveling to Disneyland and Cancun. Though their time together was short it will be forever treasured. He is survived by his wife Rachel of Pleasant Grove; his children Jeselyn (Greg) Peery of Orem; Brad West of St. George; Jentry Hood of Cedar Hills; Jandee (Dustin) Anderson of Salt Lake; Jonique (Tig) Peterson of Salt Lake; Tyson (Tracy) Warburton of Lehi; Tiffney (Joseph) Smith of Portland; Ashkia, Latisha, Chanse, and Taylor Warburton all of Pleasant Grove; grandchildren: Tyler Thomas, Christain, Savanah, Aydelyn, Jennica, Jade, Isaac, Daiviann, Chandler, Bridger, Keven, Julie, Shaun, and Briger; his mother of Pleasant Grove; sisters, Carol (Larry) Blackhurst of Pleasant Grove and Brenda (Jim) Peters of Lindon. He will greatly be missed by all those who knew him. Dad, we will always remember you and forever love you. You are the greatest. We miss you. Kelson, Lois Madge Durnell Lois Madge Durnell Kelson Lois Madge Durnell Kelson died June 13, 2005 in Provo, Utah at the age of 88. She was born September 10, 1916 in Heber City, Utah to Eli George and Emma Johnson Durnell. She received her education in Provo Schools, graduating from Provo High School. She married LeRoy Amiel Kelson on April 27, 1936 and the couple made their home in Provo, where Madge has lived ever since. She and Roy operated Roy's Bicycle shop in Provo from 1959-1980. Madge also worked as a pink lady at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for 29 years, accumulating 6500 hours of service. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Madge is survived by her sons LeRoy George (Miriam LaVae) Kelson of Orem, Utah and Stephen Reed (Lois C.) Kelson of Provo; 15 Grandchildren; 28 Great-grandchildren; and 20 Great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and by one son, Douglas E. Cluff. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 E. Later, Wendell Cordon Wendell Cordon Later Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Wendell Cordon Later passed away June 13, 2005 due to complications from a stroke. He was born August 19, 1919 in Rigby, Idaho, the son of Lawrence Ray Later and Mabel Emily Cordon. He spent his early years on his family's ranch in Ririe, Idaho. He graduated from Ririe High School and went on to attend Idaho State University prior to serving in World War II, in the Army Air Corps, and in the Navy in the South Pacific. He resumed his education at Utah State University, graduating in 1948 with a degree in Forestry and Range Management. Wendell married Vera Mae Nelson on Sept 3, 1947 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They are the parents of 6 children, 35 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He was a life long member of the LDS church serving as Branch President, Counselor in 3 Bishoprics, Mountain Home Stake Mission President, Temple Worker and many other positions. He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs for 35 years. He survived by his wife, Vera, and children, Dr. Robert (Connie) of Sandy; Dr. Richard (Carol) of Orem; Karen (Mark) Stephens of Lenexa, Kansas; Dr. David (Collette) of Sandy; Sandra (Galen) Mooso of Mahomet, Illinois; Janice (Monty) Wells of American Fork; sisters, Shirley Hendrickson and Donna Johnston. Funeral services will be at 11 am Saturday, June 18, 2005 in the Larson Park Ward Chapel, 9621 North 6050 West, Highland, Utah. Linda Rittenhouse, age 63, died Friday, June 10, 2005 of complications from Lupus at the Corvallis Good Samaritan Medical Center. The daughter of Griffith Chaffin Barlow and Mary Eleanor Sparling, Linda leaves behind her stepmother Mary Jane Barlow; three brothers Donald Barlow, Chris Sparling, Stephen Barlow; one sister Nancy Barlow; two sons, Barry Rittenhouse of Buckeye, AZ, David Rittenhouse of Provo, UT and one daughter Kate Merrill of Albany, OR; nieces and nephew, and 13 grandchildren. Linda was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Linda enjoyed reading, writing, photography, arts and crafts, and sewing. Smith, Barbara McKay Barbara McKay Smith, 84, died June 13, 2005 at home in Provo. She was born in Ogden, Utah, October 2, 1920 to Thomas E. McKay and Fawn Brimhall McKay. She grew up in Huntsville, Utah and attended Weber High School in Ogden, later graduating from B.Y. High School after spending two years in Switzerland where her father was Mission President. While attending Brigham Young University, Barbara married Dr. Oliver R. Smith who was a Journalism Professor. Mrs. Smith worked for several businesses in the Provo area; Taylor Brothers Department Store, Rowley's, Melayne Printers, and two U.S. Government Census positions. Later she joined the staff at Utah Technical College (now UVSC), retiring in 1985 as Assistant Dean of Continuing Education. Mrs. Smith was well known among Provo City employees, having served five years on the Provo City Planning Commission and for seven years on the Board of Adjustments. With this background, she successfully ran for a seat on the Provo City Council in 1987, serving for four years. While her husband was active in the Air Force Reserve, she was active in the auxiliary. She was a member for many years of the Beta Sorosis Literary Club, BYU Women, the Republican Party and many PTA organizations while her children were attending school. She was preceded in death by her husband in December, 1990, and also by two sisters, Fawn McKay Brodie and Flora McKay Jensen Crawford, and a brother, Thomas Brimhall McKay. She is survived by eight children, 53 grandchildren, and 77 great-grandchildren. Barbara and Oliver had five daughters and three sons, Barbara Kay Rytting (J. Howard Rytting) of Lawrence, Kansas; Olivia Lea Baird (Charles A. Baird) of Lehi; Kenneth McKay Smith (JoAnne King) of Mesa, Arizona; Ronald McKay Smith (Colleen Johnson) of Orem; Rebecca Snyder (Richard L. Snyder) of Tillamook, Oregon; Deborah Annis of Provo; Dorothy Gillespie (John K. Gillespie) of Orem; and Richard McKay Smith (Cindy Naylor) of North Salt Lake. She is also survived by a sister, Louise McKay Card, Salt Lake City, and numerous nieces and nephews who were always considered part of the family. The family gives special thanks to granddaughter Joanna Snyder for providing tender, competent care to Grandma Smith during her final years. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 18 at 10:00 A.M. at the BYU Harman Conference Center in Provo, 770 East University Parkway, just West of 9th East (park on west side of building). Friends may visit with the family Friday evening between 6:00 and 8:00 P.M. at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center Street, Provo. Interment will be at the Provo City Cemetery. Tolton, Dennis S. Dennis S. Tolton, our dear ol' Dad, left us for bigger and better hunting grounds on Monday, June 13, 2005. Dennis was born January 16, 1942 in Orem. He was loved and heard by all who knew him. He left behind his lifelong companion Joan Hays of Provo and 6 kids. Dena (Kelly) Thomas, Orem, Sheila (Dave) Roylance, Genola, Angie Tolton, Orem, Jason D. Tolton, Orem, Gilbert Hays, Provo, Walter Hays, Provo. Four sisters, Patricia Southwick, American Fork, Shirlene Aime, Reno, Nevada, Leeta Clayton, Orem, and Jana Higley, Lehi. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Shirley and Dorothy Gossard Tolton, 2 brothers Terry "Toby" Tolton, Walter Tolton and 2 daughters, Geraldine and Deneice. Dennis is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter who he loved very much. He and Joan never missed a birthday party or family gathering.
