Lehi, Byron Creer Dastrup Byron Creer Dastrup Lehi ~ In a time when words such as Great, Genius, and Wonderful are used to describe mere mediocrity, a truly Great man has successfully completed his journey in this life. Byron Creer Dastrup was born on October 16, 1927, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ephraim Byron Dastrup and Sarah Jane Creer Dastrup. Byron lived his early years in Salt Lake City before his father moved the family to Payson, Utah, when Byron was 15. During his time in Payson, Byron worked in his father's Main Street Ice Cream Parlor making 40 gallons of ice cream a day. Byron also developed a deep love for music that he carried throughout his life. He, along with his mother, father, and sister (Jean), played in a dance band. Byron mastered the drums, bugle, and trumpet, along with creating a beautiful tenor singing voice. In 1945, Byron left to serve in the military as a Merchant Marine. Soon after his return to Payson, in 1947, he married Erika Binderon, November 12, 1947, in the LDS Salt Lake City Temple. Byron and Erika were married for over 57 years. Byron and Erika settled in Provo, Utah, where they built, with their own hands, a kingdom for all their family, neighbors, and friends. Byron and Erika truly provided a magical childhood for all their children: Ronale (Larry), Paulette (Eldon), Jeanette (Cliff), Julie (Leonard), Eric (Allison), Carl (Jill), Chris, Peter (Dina), and Pennie (Garrett). Byron and Erika later moved to Lehi, Utah, where his family still continues to meet together at their home. Byron worked for the Provo City Power Plant for over 30 years before retiring as the plant manager. He then worked another twelve years at BYU before he officially retired. Byron was a successful businessman and owned several apartment complexes. Byron faithfully honored his priesthood, serving in several bishoprics, as High Priest Group Leader, and as Elders Quorum President. Byron also devoted many years to the Boy Scouts of America, and was honored with their highest recognition, the Silver Beaver Award. He enjoyed working with his hands and teaching his children how to work with their hands. There was nothing he couldn't fix or create. He also loved singing, and spent many painful, pleasurable hours teaching his children to sing Barbershop. On March 3, 2005, after years of fighting many physical illnesses, Byron died in his home surrounded by his wife and family. It can honestly be said that he touched countless people throughout his life, and never in a negative way. Byron gave more than he received, served more than he was served, listened more than he talked, sang more than he yelled, laughed more than he cried, and loved as much as he was loved. Byron Creer Dastrup, a truly great, great, great man. Thank You. Byron is survived by his wife, children, sister, 45 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and growing. Strong, Beverly Faith Jensen Beverly Faith Jensen Strong Beverly Faith Jensen Strong, 81, passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family, on March 3, 2005. She was born January 31, 1924 in Moroni, Utah to Frank and Faith Jensen. She married Roland Simmons Strong on September 20, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She was born and raised in Moroni, Utah and lived there until 1946, where she worked at a parachute factory during WWII and helped her dad on the sheep ranch. After moving to Provo she worked at the State Bank and later for the State Tax Commission. Beverly was an example of faithful service to the Lord as a temple worker, primary teacher, name extractor, and in various Relief Society callings. Throughout her life Beverly's main concern was for her family. Her greatest joy was being with them. She loved horseback riding in Fairview, boating at Lake Powell, four-wheeling on her ATV (their 57th anniversary was celebrated with a new Rhino four-wheeler), and road trips all over Utah with her sweetheart, Roland. Her hobbies included crocheting, quilting, cooking, square dancing, flower gardening, looking for antiques, and enjoying everything with her family. She never wanted to miss out on anything they were involved with, and never wanted anyone else to be left out. Because of her great love and example, we were drawn together as a family. We live, work, and play together. Beverly will be deeply missed by her family; she will continue to be a part of everything we do and are.
