Paula was born in Orem, Utah and raised by her loving parents, Leland (who preceded her) and Jean Sorensen. Even through life's battles, Paula managed to stay in contact with family and friends. She is survived by her life-long buddy and husband Bryan Cook, who saw her through her long, drawn-out illness; her mother, Norma Jean Sorenson; siblings: Joyce, Lydia, Butch, Mack, Karen, David, Bobby, Billy, Connie, Carrie, Ron, and Lynn. The people Paula loved, she loved deeply. Her life-long passion was animals of all kinds; they were like her children and she was often found feeding the local strays. She enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Paula was a person who danced to a different tune and occasionally we got the privilege of joining in the dance. Graveside services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Published in the Daily Herald on 3/15/2005. Humphries, Austin Jay Austin Jay Humphries Austin, age 22, passed away March 13, 2005 after a car accident in American Fork Canyon. He was born Jan 29, 1983. Austin has gone home to his Father in Heaven, his sister Tanya and his Grandma Humphries. From the moment he was born, he was always on the go. He didn't want to take time to learn how to crawl so he leapt into walking and running to keep up with his sisters. He loved his family. He went to Shelley & Highland Elem Schools, Mt. Ridge Jr. High and Lone Peak High School. He worked in Alaska in 2001 as a tour director. He attended UVSC before going on his mission to the Canary Islands, Las Palmos Mission 2002-2004. Since coming home he has attended UVSC with plans to transfer to BYU after another summer in Alaska. He was well known for his lively imagination and adventurous behavior from sliding down hillsides on used ironing boards to rock climbing in the canyons. He is survived by his mother Terry, father T Jay, sister Autumn, grandfather James Humphries, grandmother Eileen Shepley, grandfather Charles Shepley, many aunts, uncles & cousins who will remember his fun, happy, loving personality. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 12 noon in the Highland 11th Ward, 4679 West Wasatch Dr (11200 North). Jackson, Elma Taylor Elma Taylor Jackson Elma Taylor Jackson, age 67 of Salem returned to her Heavenly Father Saturday, March 12, 2005, the result of a tragic accident. She was our dad's beautiful angel and best friend, our special mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter and sister. Born November 30, 1937 in Salem, Utah. She was the second of five children of Clawson Henry and Zonna Sheen Taylor. Elma was raised in Salem and attended schools in Salem and Spanish Fork. She met the love of her life, Jack Jackson, and was married on April 30, 1958. They were sealed together in the Manti Temple and became eternal friends and companions. Their loving union was a beautiful example to all who knew them. Mom lived for her family. She was the glue that held our family together and a positive influence on every life she touched. Her love and support was unwavering. The grand kids loved their visits with Grandma Jack. They knew they could pull her to the side and she would do anything they asked. Whether it was coloring Easter eggs in November, decorating Christmas cone in February or sitting with her in a dark closet with a flashlight pretending it was their special cave. There were many trips to the park to feed the ducks and to swim. Mom loved to cook and sew. Friends and family enjoyed many loaves of bread, dozens of cookies, homemade candies and her special chocolate cakes. Jack made dozens of sucker trees and together they would make hundreds of suckers to fill them. Many neighbors benefitted from this yearly tradition. Saturday morning traditions was their famous sour dough pancake breakfast with all the trimmings. Everyone was invited and there always seemed to be plenty for all. The only payment required, was a hug from both, as you left. Her loving husband Jack, and family survive Elma: Kevin (Paulla), Kerry (Susan) and Michele (Stacy). Grandchildren: Ben and Ashley, Jake and Theresa, Matt, and Kensie.. Great-grandchildren, Trey, Kaylee and Kaden. She is also survived by her mother Zonna and three sisters; Kay (Byron) Elde; Nancy (Lloyd) Law and Sharon Roderick. Many nieces and nephews will miss their special Aunt Emmy. Her father, Clawson and her only brother Gale Clawson preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the Knoll Park LDS Chapel, 460 West SR 198 in Salem. Jones, Clarence Stewart Clarence Stewart Jones Clarence Stewart Jones of Los Altos, CA passed away on Tuesday March 8, 2005 of complications of heart disease. He was born in Rigby, Idaho August 21, 1926 and was raised in Provo, Utah. Clarence enjoyed an illustrious career as an engineer, businessman and entrepreneur and was instrumental in starting two companies in the Silicon Valley, ESL Inc. and ADAC Laboratories. He also served on the board of directors of several companies including Quantic Industries and Space Power and held many patents. He was a devoted husband of 56 years and a loving father and grandfather. He was active in the Los Altos Heritage Oaks Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He rendered service to many and was a generous philanthropist. Clarence is survived by his wife Meredith Hanseen Jones; brothers R. Bruce Jones (Carol) of El Dorado Hills, CA; Jerry Jones (Calleen) and Ronald Jones (Judy) of Orem, UT; son Randall C. Jones of Ashland, OR; daughter Marjean Livingston (Clyde) of St. Louis, MO; daughter Susan Garside (Blake) of Oceanside, CA; 6 Grandchildren and 3 spouses and 3 Great Grandchildren. Services were held Saturday, March 12, 2005 in Los Altos, CA. Friends and family will gather for graveside services on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery at 1997 South 400 East, Springville, UT. He was born April 11, 1960 in Denver, Colorado to Keith Owen and Marilyn (Beyer) Lytle. He graduated from Fort Morgan High School in Colorado where he was captain of the golf team and was listed in "Who's Who In American High Schools". He attended Colorado State University. He enjoyed the outdoors including gardening.He liked to hike, ski, and ride dirt-bikes. Survivors are his motherMarilyn Lytle of Greeley, Colorado; two sisters, Sandra Wilkins of Clovis, New Mexico and Susan Terry of Tucson, Arizona; one aunt and numerous cousins. (Christensen) Mecham returned to her Father in Heaven; and, to her sweetheart of 69 years, on March 11, 2005. She was born on February 28, 1918, in Alunite, Utah, to Lehi Peter Christensen and Blanche Catherine Hancock Christensen. She grew up in Southern Utah, Magna, and Orem. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Orem. She was married to John William Mecham on April 14, 1936, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. John and V did temple work for 20 years. They are the parents of 14 children. She loved the farm, fencing, quilting, sewing, writing for the Spanish Fork Press, being a grandmother helper at Rees School, and oil painting with the Senior Citizens. She is survived by 12 children: Eileen (Richard) Cleland, Leo (Carma) Mecham, Deon (Dixie) Mecham, Lorna Hollerman, Glen Mecham, Wanda (Mike) Olsen, June (Gordon) Burnside, Gene (Debbie) Mecham, Lucille (Rick) Diston, John (Melanie) Mecham, Donna (Randy) Butler, and Myrl (Jeff) Burton. She is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Merlene Irvine, 46 grandchildren, 52 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna (Bob) Sandstrom, and two brothers, Lowell (Lavera) Christensen, and Lon (Betty) Christensen. She is preceded in death by her sweetheart, John William Mecham; two sons, John Ray and Vern E. Mecham, and a grandson, Nick Butler. V. quilted her last quilt, hung up her thimble, hugged all the grandkids and left to join her sweetheart of 69 years. She will be the sunshine of our hearts until we all push up daisies! Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Leland Ward Chapel, 360 North 650 West, Spanish Fork. Schemensky, Verl Davis Verl Davis Schemensky St. George, Ut - Verl Davis Schemensky, age 87, passed away as a result of a long illness. He was born April 13, 1917, in Lakeview, Utah a son of Frank Schemensky and Mary Hannah Davis. Verl attended schools in Orem, Utah. Verl was married to Mary Fay Allman on May 10, 1937. The marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 10, 1945. They were together for 67 years. Verl worked at Ironton Steel, Springville, Utah and then was transferred to U.S. Steel Corp. (Geneva Steel). He was employed at Geneva Steel for 40 years. After retirement he and his wife moved to Washington City. Verl and his wife Fay had three children: Geniel, Karl, and Mary Ann, and their family was and is the most important thing in their lives. Verl lived for his children and grandchildren. He loved to golf and hunt and fish, but only when his family could participate with him and Fay. His family called him "Pa" and "Fred" because he loved to tease with them and everyone loved being with "PA." Verl was also a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Schemensky family would like to give appreciation to Dr. Robert Rignell, the nurses and staff at Red Cliffs Regional Medical Center, and Applegate Hospice Care for the professional and loving care they gave to Verl during his illness. The nurses and aids grew to love Verl during his stay at Red Cliffs and they also referred to him as "Pa". Surviving family includes his wife Fay of Washington City, Karl (Linda) Schemensky of St. George, Geniel Sperry and Mary Ann (Ron) Offret of Washington City, six grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. His mother and father, twin sister Eva Jameson, sisters Elva Dixon and Lea McCandless, brothers Merve and Darrell Schemensky, one grandson Shane Offret and son-in-law Arlyn Sperry, preceded Verl in death. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Washington LDS 10th Branch, 700 E. Telegraph. A visitation will be held Thursday, March 17, from 9:30-10:40 a.m., prior to services at the chapel. Zamboni, Frank Francis Frank Francis Zamboni Frank Francis Zamboni, 83, long time resident of Orem and Provo, Utah, passed away Monday, March 14, 2005. He was born June 7, 1921, in Superior, Wyoming, a son of Celeste and Mary Franch Zamboni. He later moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming, and graduated from Rock Springs High School, where he met his sweetheart of 64 years, Frances Pivic. They were married November 23, 1940, in Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the Navy during World War II. Frank had many professions throughout his life. He was an automobile salesman, a meat cutter at Safeway for many years, managed the Elks Lodge in Provo and worked in real estate until hisretirement. Frank loved fishing with his buddies and gardening in his yard. He was a long time member of the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, of Orem; a son and a daughter, Gary Arthur (Colleen) Zamboni, of Orem; Mary Frances (Ken) Mecham, South Jordan, Utah; his four grandchildren, Jason Pinarelli, St. George, Utah, Aundrea Williams, Draper, Utah; Lindsay Dunn, Paul Zamboni, both of Lindon, Utah; and his 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his baby daughter, Marsha Lynn Zamboni, his sisters, Ruby Norton and Rena Zamboni. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 17th, at 12 noon in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem, where friends may call from 11 a.m. prior to the services.
