He was born August 8, 1922, in Marion, Ohio, the fifth of seven children of Lester Franklin Mahaffey and Ozella Mae Cluff. He was raised and educated in the Marion, Ohio, area and graduated from Cardington High School. He worked as a core maker at Marion Power Shovel Co. for over 40 years. He served in the Army in WWII in France, Germany, and Luxembourg, receiving three Bronze Stars. He met his sweetheart, Eileen Robertson, during the war, and they were married in Durham, N.C. on June 1, 1945. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this June. They joined The Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter-day Saints in February, 1952, and they were sealed August 12, 1954, in the Idaho Falls Temple. Lester & Eileen raised four children: Barbara Veatch, Roger Mahaffey, Rhonda Tucker, and Rodney Mahaffey. Lester loved the Lord with all of his heart. The great joy of his life was his wife and his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He taught his family love, compassion, and unswerving devotion to the Lord. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, four children, 24 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren with four on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and one grandson. Our family would like to thank Karen Hanson of A-Plus Health Care, as well as his other nurses: Kelly, Cathy, and Janelle. They all loved and served Mom and Dad throughout Dad's illness; and, Karen was with us right to the end. We are also grateful to Lib and Landon of the Hospice team for their compassionate service and loving care. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 3rd, at 11 a.m., in the Geneva Heights 6th Ward Chapel, 590 North 900 West, Orem, Utah. Friends may call at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, in Orem, from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 2nd, and Tuesday, at the ward chapel from 10:00 til 10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Veteran's Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah, with full Military Rites performed by the VFW District #4. Nielson, Shawna Michelle Lynch Shawna Michelle Lynch Nielson, age 34, after a valiant 20-year struggle with mental illness, returned to her Heavenly Father on April 29, 2005. She was born December 7, 1970, in San Diego CA, to Michael and Merrilyn Lynch of Smithfield, Utah. Shawna resided in Lehi, Utah, with her husband, David Nielson, and five children (Brendon, Kimber, Tyler, Christian, and Angelique). From a freckled-faced little girl who knew only how to skip or run, Shawna graced the world with her love and light. Her angelic voice was a gift that literally brought heaven to earth. Music was her venue to touch souls, which she expressed through composing songs, musicals, and performances. Her compassion was Christlike and often she would walk the journey with downtrodden and overlooked souls so they would not be alone. She truly understood the depths of human suffering and her ability to console and soothe those who were wounded was a unique gift. Shawna is survived by husband, David Nielson; her five children; her parents, Michael and Merrilyln Lynch; her sisters and brothers (Taunia, Cherie, Bryce, Ryan, Robin and Dusty); eight nieces and nephews; and extended family, Carl and Carol Nielson, Bruce, Sheila and Amy. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Lehi 5th Ward LDS Church at 465 E. 300 North. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening 6-8 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Meredith D. Searle ~Together Again~ Meredith D. Searle passed away April 28, 2005, at her home, due to incidence of age. Meredith was born July 24, 1919, in Leamington, Utah, to Wells A. and Emily D. Nielson. She lost her mother and two brothers, Don and Ray, at a very early age. She married Sidney S. Searle on November 7, 1939, in Salt Lake City. The marriage was solemnized in the Provo Temple on November 7, 1977. Meredith loved crocheting, reading, camping and fishing, spending time exercising at the Orem recreation center with long time friends, Orem Women's Club, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by four children: Deon (Wayne) Briggs, Michael (Grena) Searle, Sydell Searle, and Suzette (Steve) Smith, 17 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother, Earl (Bus) Nielson, and many friends and loved ones. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary at 495 South State in Orem. White, Lucy Lewis Lucy Lewis White A beautiful and loving daughter, wife, and mother has finally been released to join her husband and daughter. Lucy Lewis White passed away, at age 86, on April 30, 2005, at her home in the loving arms of her family. Mom was born November 1, 1918, in Monticello, Utah, to George Lester and Mable Dalton Lewis. She married William Wallace White on September 5, 1946, in Las Vegas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on May 6, 1949. Dad passed away on March 26, 2002. Lucy's mother died when she was three years old. She was then raised and educated in Monticello by her uncle Wilford and aunt Thressa Frost, whom she loved dearly and considered her parents. Mom was an active member of the LDS Church serving in various organizations. Her home was her temple and a sanctuary to all who entered it. Mom was a loving mother and grandmother and a beacon of light to all who knew her. She is survived by her two daughters: Gwen (Steve) Tattersall, Monroe, Louisiana; and Donna (Glenn) Barnett, Pleasant Grove; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Erma Trainor and Rae Randall; two brothers: Harold and Wendell Frost, all of Monticello. Additional survivors include two special sons-in-law: Keith Graves and Michael Graves. Preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Helen Lucille Graves; two sets of parents, two sisters and five brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 4, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Timpanogos Stake Center, 800 North 100 West, Pleasant Grove. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Olpin Family Mortuary, 494 South 300 East, Pleasant Grove; and, at the church, on Wednesday one hour prior to services.
