She was born August 9, 1911, in Nephi, Utah, the daughter of Roy Lunt and Annie Jacobsen Batchelor. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joie graduated from BY High School, Provo, Utah, and Brigham Young University. She was an accomplished cellist and was in the BYU Symphony Orchestra. Joie shared her musical talents with the community for many years. She is survived by her two nephews, Donald (Kay) Cowan, Orem, Utah and David (Susanna) Cowan, Wellington, Florida and nieces, Marilyn (Lloyd) Bullock, New Castle, Colorado and Barbara Kelley, Orem. She is also survived by her special friend and foster daughter, Doris (Jim) Platt, Salt Lake City, Utah and special grandchildren, Andrea, Cameron, Kirsten, and Nicole and their children. She also leaves behind many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and two sisters, Leila Cowan and Verda Thomas. Special Thanks to the wonderful people at Cove Point Retirement Community for the loving care and attention they gave Joie for the last several years. Dunaway, Ruth Eloese Anderson Ruth Eloese Anderson Dunaway OREM - A lifetime of compassion and service came to end, Saturday, May 7, 2005, when Ruth Eloese Anderson Dunaway returned to her Heavenly Father. Ruth was born January 26, 1924, to Francis Emmanuel Anderson and Anna Eloese Poulsen, in Rains, Utah. She graduated form Carbon High in 1942 and then completed her nurse's training at the University of Utah and LDS Hospital. Her care and concern for others was typified by her lifelong service as a registered nurse. She was Director of Nursing at Weber County Hospital and continued to serve others well past her retirement. She was preceded in death by her lifelong sweetheart and companion, James Bryant Dunaway. They were married November 13, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Ruth is survived by her son, Scott (Ruth) Dunaway, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, and many dear friends including, Vicky Barber, her husband Paul, and their five children. Ruth was the personification of charity and Christ-like service to others. A deeply committed member of the LDS Church, she served faithfully in many callings including visiting teacher, Ward Relief Society President, and an Ogden Temple worker. Throughout her life she always put the needs and welfare of others ahead of her own. No matter where she lived, Ruth was a true friend, confidant and neighborhood nurse. She truly loved and was loved by everyone around her. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10th, at 11:00 a.m., at the Kaysville Barnes Park Ward Chapel, 1275 West 200 North, (Flint Street). Gordon, John Dean "Johnny" John "Johnny" Dean Gordon OREM In loving memory of our husband, our father, grandfather, brother and dear friend John Dean Gordon (Johnny), who passed away in his home. Born on December 13, 1921 to Eliza Boberg and John Henry Gordon of Axtell, Utah, he met his bride in his youth, not long before enlisting in the Navy. He was stationed on the USS St. Louis (The Lucky Lou) and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor during World War II. While on leave, he married his love, Kathryn Louise Clark of Provo, on September 5, 1943. He had a burning in his belly for the great outdoors, which was extinguished every time the fresh air hit it, whether it be camping, fishing, hunting or simply in his own garden, where he produced the most exquisite roses. He is already missed and will never be forgotten. She was born Feb. 5, 1917, in Ridgeland, South Carolina, the daughter of James Elais and Arminter Fleming Malphrus. She married Jonathan Davis Lloyd on Aug. 25, 1945, in Savanna, GA. Ruby was active in the LDS Church and lived in Newport Beach, CA, where she was a member of the Corona Del Mar Ward for many years. She was active in the community and was involved with Opera Pacific. She was an avid snow skier and loved tennis, entertaining at parties, playing bridge, and trips with her family and friends. She went on 25 different cruises all over the world. She was a real southern lady, and had a most unique laugh. Survived by her husband, Jonathan, New Port Beach, CA; 2 daughters, Joan Fjellstrom, Lehi; and Diane (Blaine) Knight, Sandy; 7 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, James Malphrus, Albany, NY; 1 sister, Clyde Potter, Mesa, AZ. Mecham, Delenna Bradshaw Delenna Bradshaw Mecham, 83, passed away May 5, 2005, at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo. She was born November 13, 1921, Hurricane, Utah, to Samuel and Mariam Ellen Bradshaw. After her mission, in Texas-Louisiana, 1942, she worked at the presiding Bishop's office in Salt Lake City. She later moved back to Orem to work on her parents farm. While working on a peach defuzzer she met her future husband, Orval Mecham. They married September 22, 1947, in the Logan Temple. She was a devoted mother and homemaker. Relatives and friends were always welcome in their home. Orval passed away in 1998. Delenna graduated from Lincoln High as Valedictorian and attended two terms at Brigham Young University. She was involved in the Daughters of Utah Pioneer's. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings, including, Scouts, Young Women, Ward Relief Society President, Counselor in the stake Relief Society, and a temple worker at Mount Timpanogos Temple. She loved to grow flowers, make quilts, and loved to write letters, many of them. She is survived by her children, son, James O. (Donna), Laramie, Wyoming, daughters, Janice (Eric) Sullivan, Vernal, Marilyn (Robert) Moore, Salt Lake City and a son, Brent B. (April), Sugar Land, Texas, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Willard (Carole) Bradshaw, Provo, Robert Bradshaw, Orem and a sister, Mae Beth Luke, Kingston, Utah. Messersmith, Robert Orem - Robert Henry Messersmith, age 77 of Orem, formerly of Cedar Fort, died May 5, 2005 in the Timpanogos hospital following a stroke. He was born Sept. 28, 1927 in Cedar Fort, Utah, son of Ralph Henry and Margaret Elizabeth Berry Messersmith. He married Shirley Ione West, July 10, 1952 in Nevada. Marriage later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died Oct. 29, 1999. He married Merle Boulton Haycock, Sept. 9, 2000 in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. Bob served in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a supply inspector at Tooele Army Depot and also was a bus driver for Alpine School District. He was a temple worker in the Mt. Timpanogos Temple and served an LDS mission with his wife, Shirley in South Carolina. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, gardener, farmer, and loved to read. Survived by his wife, Merle of Orem; sons: Paul (Jackie) Messersmith, Nephi; Terry (Tammy) Messersmith, Fairfield; Ralph (Kathy) Messersmith, Lehi; Kimball (Jetta) Messersmith, Cedar Fort; Alan (Kathy) Haycock, Santaquin; daughters: Charlene (Bill) Haworth, Washington; Cindy (Rex) Dumas, and Gloria (Jeff) Beagley, all of Lehi; Marsha (Steve) Cross, Taylorsville; Debbie (John) Fowles, Providence; Shawna (Kim) James, Washington; Pam (Darren) Miller, Murray; Diana (Dave) Binks, Provo; 23 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Dean Smith, Vernal Messersmith, sister, Margaret Danielson. Col. 1918 - 2005 "Flash" passed way peacefully in his sleep, May 4, 2005. Born May 21, 1918, to Niels and Olevia Mikkelson in Fountain Green, Utah. Married Laura B. Cochran May 24, 1942. Graduated Moroni High School, Snow College, Arizona State Teacher's College with a Master's degree. Coached and taught biological sciences at Snow College (7 yrs.) and Orem High (25 yrs.). Served his country in World War II as an Army Air Corps pilot. "Flash" will be remembered for his enthusiasm for anything athletic and his compassionate service to friends, neighbors, church and family. Survived by his wife, Laura, four children, John (Betty), Jody (Glen) Gardner, Nedra (Jay) Bunker, Gary (Sharon), 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren. Siblings, Allan and Dorothy. Nebeker, Della Jameson Eureka, Utah Della Jameson Nebeker passed away the morning of May 6, 2005, five weeks after a debilitating stroke left her paralyzed. She would have celebrated her 78th birthday on Monday with her family and friends. Della was born May 9, 1927 to Burtis and Della Okleberry Jameson at her mother's home in Goshen, Utah. Her mom was only able to stay on earth 21 days to love her. Her daddy took her to his mother and father's home in Eureka to have them help raise her. Mother, Papa, Daddy and her new brothers and sisters did an outstanding job to help her become the wonderful person she was. She met Hal Adelman Nebeker and fell in love. They were married June 1, 1945. They had a baby girl in 1950 that did not survive. They then were blessed with another little girl, Adele, by adopting her and giving her the best life she could ever hope for. She gave her love and care to her other children, her grandchildren, Hawlii, Klay, Lacey, Cole and Wyatt. She was a 30 year member of the LOE, Lodge 711. Della is survived by her daughter, Adele (Bob) Pagnani, Eureka; grandchildren, Hawlii Allinson, Salt Lake, Klay (Mary Ann) Allinson, Eureka, Lacey (Shane) Grange, Eureka, Cole (Heather) Allinson, Sunset, and Wyatt Allinson, Eureka; a son-in-law, Ned Stormy Allinson; sisters, Bernice Lunt, American Fork, Darleen Kay, Payson; sisters-in-law, Connie (Ole) Larson, Las Vegas, and Norma Nebeker, Annabelle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hal, grandparents, Alice and Charles Jameson, parents, Burtis and Della Jameson, brothers, Cloyd, Harold and Jack, and sisters, Lucille, LuElla, and Rhoda. Published in the Daily Herald on 5/8/2005. Turner, Zora Mae Zora Mae "The Blanket Lady" Amtoft Eves Johnston Turner, age 96, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at her home in Springville, Utah. She was born May 31, 1908 in Provo, Utah to Lars Peter Andersen and Christeen Marie Andersen Amtoft. Zora Mae served in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including a mission to the Coldwell Idaho Mission. She graduated from BYU in 1956 with a BA degree in Elementary Education and taught school for two years. She published a book named "Grandma Can I Take It Home". Zora Mae served on many compassionate services including making "Magic Blankets" for new born babies and friends who might need them. She received a Citation for Kindness from the State of Rhode Island, was honored at the BYU Extravaganza and rode in the Independence Day Parade in 2000 receiving the Freedom Award for that year. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard John Johnston to whom she is sealed. Survivors include her daughter, Maxine Weight and her husband Grant McKay with 13 children; son, Arthur Glenn Eves Jr. and his wife Carol Joan with 11 children; son, Wendell A. Eves and his wife Carol Jean with 7 children; daughter, Carol Joy Schiess and her husband D. Nephi with 18 children, including 13 stepchildren; son, Paul Gary Eves and his wife Joy with 2 children; son, Howard D. Eves and his wife Ann with 4 children. She is also survived by stepson, Kenneth Kay Johnston and his wife Barbara with 4 children; stepson, Wesley Johnston and his wife Kathy with 4 children; stepson, Ron Johnston and his wife Ceasar May with 7 children; stepdaughter, Zoetta Ann Paxman and her husband Dennis with 5 children; grandchildren and step-grandchildren's posterity of 240 children. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 9, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek Stake Center at 455 S. 1300 East in Springville. There will be a viewing held Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and from 9:30 to 10:30 at the church prior to the services.
