She was born May 17, 1914 in Riverdale, UT to Joseph W. Child and Cora Waldron Child., the eldest of one sister and three brothers. She married John E. Burt, Jr. on December 2l, 1932 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were the parents of two boys. Ethel spent her childhood in Morgan and Weber Counties. She was educated in the Weber County schools where she was very popular among her many friends and schoolmates. She lived in many places during her married life, following John whenever possible while he served in the U S Navy. After the war she lived in Logan, Salt Lake City, Alaska, Oregon, Washington, and retired in Springville, UT in 1972. John passed away on July 16, 1991, and she moved to St. George in 1992. She was an avid reader and enjoyed spending time with her family, an active member of the LDS Church and served a stake mission in Washington. She is survived by sons Jack W. Burt, St. George, and Michael Burt (Sherry), Cedar City; 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, one brother Eldon Child, St. George. Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 14, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Roy City Cemetery, 5200 South 2300 West. Ficklin, Randy Allen Randy Allen Ficklin In loving memory of Randy Allen Ficklin, age 45, born August 22, 1959 in Las Vegas, Nevada and was a resident of Provo, Utah. His life and service inspired us all. Randy passed away in an automobile accident Monday night, May 9, 2005. He was the son of Fred and La Rae Isaac Ficklin of Salem, Utah. He leaves behind many friends, family, and loved ones who will miss him greatly. He is survived by his three children: Tyson Allen, Desirae Eileen, Kaylor Shaye; and his former wife, Belinda Kaye Ficklin. His siblings are: Kaye (Ficklin) and Mike Halliday of Springfield, MO, Terry Alfred and LeAnn (Slane) Ficklin of Salem, UT, Robert Isaac Ficklin of Provo, UT, Karla (Ficklin) and Scott Wallentine of Springfield, MO; and their families. Randy served a mission from 1978 - 1980 in the Aukland, New Zealand, Mission. He served as a Provo Temple worker and a Tour Guide at the Salt Lake City LDS Conference Center as well as many callings in his church. He was also a part time Seminary Teacher. Randy's passions included his kids, drumming, traveling, scuba diving, boating, flying, and exercising. Randy was an outstanding musician and accomplished percussionist. Randy lived a life full of service and righteousness. He sought to know and be like our Savior. He was one of God's noble and great ones here on this earth. Though we will shed many tears as we try to carry on without him, we are sure that Randy's reunion on the other side was sweet. Randy said often that "Family matters most". It is now our challenge to help each other to live worthy of someday being where he is. Hansen, Caroline Astin Caroline Astin Hansen Caroline Astin Hansen passed away peacefully in her home Tuesday, May 10, 2005 surrounded by her family. She was 97. Caroline was born to Dario Robles and Mary Janet Donaldson Astin on February 6, 1908 in El Paso, Texas. Following her mother's death, she was lovingly raised by her Uncle William and Aunt Amy Donaldson of Springville. She graduated from East High School in 1926. Caroline was married to Mark James Hansen on November 14, 1928 in Nephi, Utah and later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on November 14, 1932. They made their home in Palmyra, Utah where they lived 77 years. Caroline loved the community and beautiful farmland of Palmyra where she enjoyed gardening, and raising her family of seven. She also enjoyed sewing, music, singing, cooking, reading, and traveling. Caroline was a life long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many teaching and leadership positions. She loved and appreciated the Church and the Gospel for the comfort it offered throughout her life. Caroline is preceded in death by her husband; son, Duane Hansen; four grandsons: Randy Blunt, Bradley Hansen, Joel Johnson, Michael Lawrence; and son-in-law, Ralph Blunt. She leaves behind six children: Irene Blunt of Salt Lake City, Janet (Larry) Lawrence of Bountiful, Phyllis (Paul) Ashton of Tustin, California, George (Nancy) Hansen of Salt Lake City, Carolyn (Sam) Johnson of Lyman, Wyoming, Laura (Randy) Carter of Palmyra; 40 grandchildren, 117 great-grandchildren, and 38 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters: Fanny Grover, Christine Grover, Amy Biggs, and Nora Donaldson. Viewing will be held prior to services on Saturday, May 14, 2005 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Palmyra Ward Chapel, 1866 West 5000 South, with services to follow at 11 a.m. All loved ones and close friends are invited to pay their respects and to celebrate the beautiful life of Grandma Hansen who will be greatly missed by us all. Lee, Wallace Glen Wallace Glen Lee St. George, UT - Wallace Glen Lee, artist and retired dentist, 71, of St. George, Utah, passed away May 10, 2005, at his home in St. George, with the same dignity and peace that characterized his entire life. He was born on June 16, 1933, in Panguitch, Utah, to Glen Steele and Mary Schow Lee. He graduated from Panguitch High School, attended Branch Agriculture College (now Southern Utah University), and graduated from Northwestern University Dental School in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Lee was a devoted husband and father and this was always his first priority in life. He married Joan Adele Adams on September, 12, 1953, in the St. George LDS Temple. They had three children, Wallace Adams (Kelly) Lee, Panguitch; Dr. David Glen (Sylvia) Lee, Lindon; and Joyce Adele Lee, who died in an accident in 1978 at the age of 13. Wallace was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Dr. Lee practiced dentistry for 32 years in his hometown of Panguitch, Utah, where he was active in community affairs and various civic organizations, including two terms as Mayor. He was appointed by Governors Rampton and Matheson to the Governor's Advisory Council for Community Affairs, and was a member of the board of directors of the Utah League of Cities and Towns. He was a regional director of Zions First National Bank. He served as president and secretary of the Southern Utah District dental society and for many years served as a delegate to the governing body of the Utah Dental Association. In 1987, he received the Southern Utah Honors Medallion for Community Service at Southern Utah University. Wallace retired from dentistry after 32 years in practice, in 1989, at the age of 56, and moved to St. George to pursue a life-long dream of becoming an artist. He became well known for his portraits and paintings of southern Utah and southwestern landscapes. He was adept in watercolor, oil and pastels. He was an adjunct professor of art at Dixie State College, taught private workshops in art, and received local and national acclaim for his artwork. Wallace is survived by his wife and sons, a brother, Dick (Donnette0 Lee, St. George; and a sister, Eleanor (J.R.) Judd, Phoenix, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter. Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Panguitch 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 400 East 200 North, Panguitch. Lloyd, Ellen Day Ellen Day Lloyd Ellen Day Lloyd, 95, of Orem, Utah, long-time Las Vegas resident, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2005. She was born April 13, 1910 in Circleville, Utah to Ephraim and Emily Bay Day. She married her eternal sweetheart, Richard Rex Lloyd on January 19, 1938 in Las Vegas. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple. Rex passed away in 1994. Ellen spent her early years in Circleville and teenage years in Salt Lake, graduating from East High School. She went on to complete beauty school and worked as a beautician in her younger years. She and Rex raised their family in the Las Vegas/Boulder City area. Ellen was an active member of the LDS Church where she was deeply devoted to genealogy. She traveled abroad many times to complete this great work. She held other church positions, especially those dealing with children and music which she loved. She is survived by her two children: Betty (R. J.) Hone, Lindon, Utah and Wallace Lloyd, Ogden, Utah; 8 grandchildren,11 great-grandchildren, a great great-granddaughter; sister, Rosemond (Keith) Henrie, Panguitch, Utah. She was preceded in death by her son Robert D. Lloyd. Shurtliff, Ferne Webster Ferne Webster Shurtliff 1924 - 2005 Our beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother, Ferne Webster Shurtliff, 80, peacefully passed away May 10th, 2005, at her home in Orem, Utah Ferne was born November 30, 1924, in Loa, Utah, to William Fredrick and Amy Cedena Carrell Webster. She grew up in Wayne County, moving to Salt Lake City with her family when she was 19 years old. She graduated from Wayne High School and Snow College. Ferne served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas/Louisiana from 1946-1948. She married David Dean Shurtliff in the Salt Lake Temple September 14, 1948 - They enjoyed 56 wonderful years together. She was a dedicated, active member of the LDS Church and served in many stake and ward capacities including Ward Young Women's President and Ward and Stake Primary President. Ferne worked at Timpview High School as a secretary in the attendance office for 12 years and thought it a very choice experience. She loved family activities and especially enjoyed boating and trailering with her family and spending time at the family cabin. She spent many wonderful winters in St. George, Utah, with her husband and also enjoyed many great trips through her husband's employment. Grandchildren will cherish countless backyard memories. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many beautiful afghans and baby quilts for her family and friends. Ferne is survived by her husband, Dave; children, David (Wendy) Shurtliff, Draper, Jan (Dave) Jensen, Farmington, Lane (Linda) Shurtliff, Orem, all of Utah, sister, Romona Smith. Simonsen, Loura Rae Sorensen Loura Rae Sorensen Simonsen Loura Rae Sorensen Simonsen, 81, of Orem, UT. passed away peacefully on May 10, 2005. She was born May 1, 1923, in Salt Lake City, UT. to Junius Mark and Mary Gygi Sorensen. Her family moved to California when she was young. She attended schools in California, graduating from Turlock High School. She served a mission to the East Central States from 1945-1947. She married John Marion Simonsen, Dec. 16, 1948, in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They had 56 wonderful years together. They are the parents of five children. Her life was characterized by love. Love of her family. Her devotion to her beloved husband, her willingness and ability to teach and nurture her children, and her love and devotion to the gospel of Jesus Christ were hallmarks of her life. Rae was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many positions including Primary President 3 times, Relief Society President, counselor in the YW presidency and many teaching callings. Her years spent teaching the boys in Guide Patrol (11 yr. old boys) were some of her fondest. Missionaries held a special place in Mom's heart and she loved to greet and talk with them. Along with John they helped support many missionaries. She was ever ready to share her testimony to all around her. She did this in word and deed. Rae loved to serve others. Many were recipients of her kindness. She loved all kinds of handiwork and spent many hours making beautiful things for others including dozens of hand knit afghans for the humanitarian center. She also loved to quilt and pieced many beautiful quilts for her family and others to enjoy. Her greatest joy was her family. She loved being a mother and spending time with her children and grandchildren. We remember ball games in the back yard. We remember BYU ball games, she rarely missed a game until the last few years. We remember trips to the cabin. We remember the stories and jokes she told. We will always remember you, Mom. We love you. Survivors include her husband, John, Orem, UT, five children: J. Lawrence (Marjorie) Simonsen, Orem, UT, Annette (Tom) Woolston, Logan, UT, James (Laurie) Simonsen, Sandy, UT, Reid (Leslie) Simonsen, Orem, UT, and Darrell (Nancy) Simonsen, Springville, UT, 24 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren, one sister, Catherine Openshaw and one brother, David (Bonnie) Sorensen and many neices, nephews and dear friends. Stephenson, Allene Davis Allene Davis Stephenson Allene Davis Stephenson, 72, returned peacefully to her Heavenly Father's presence in her home on Tuesday, May 10, 2005. Allene was born April 5, 1933 to Ernest E. and Ivy Cloward Davis in their home in Salem, Utah. As a child she loved to sing and dance. While attending Salem Elementary School, she was involved in several school plays. She attended Spanish Fork High School where she also participated in school activities. She loved playing softball and being involved in the arts and musical events. After graduating from Spanish Fork High School and Seminary, she married her sweetheart, Wilbur A. Stephenson of Holden, Utah. They were sealed for time and all eternity on August 11, 1951 in the Salt Lake Temple. Allene was employed by the Nebo School District for 25 years. She worked as a secretary in the Spanish Fork Middle School and later became the purchasing secretary at the district office. She loved her work and enjoyed the people she worked with. Allene was very involved in the community. She was President of the Utah Women's Grocer Association, and served as President of Spanish Fork Theater and Arts Council. Her greatest joy, however, came from being a "Grandma" at the Canyon Elementary School in Spanish Fork. She truly loved the children. Allene had many interests which included playing the piano, singing with the Choralettes, painting, and working with ceramics. Family reunions, traveling, and camping with her husband and family were her greatest loves. She loved the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was very actively involved in many callings. She served in the Stake and Ward Young Women's Presidencies, and the Ward Relief Society Presidency. She also served as Ward organist, Primary chorister and accompanist, and as Young Women's Camp Director and cook. She also loved temple service. She loved and enjoyed serving her Heavenly Father and those around her. She loved everyone and was an example to all she met and worked with. We love her with all our hearts. Allene is survived by her husband and eternal companion, Wilbur A. Stephenson; a son, Craig A. and Daina Stephenson of St. George; a daughter, Christine and David Ellsworth of Spanish Fork; 14 grandchildren: Amen (Kylene) Stephenson, Jason (Myrna) Stephenson, Jeramie, Jared, Elisa, Camarie, Nathaniel, Shaileen, and Matthew Stephenson; Shanda (Matthew) Thomas, Brittney (Cory) Fenn, Colby and Schyler Ellsworth; two great-grandchildren: Branson Stephenson, Chloe Fenn, and an expected great-grandchild. She is also survived by a brother, Ronald (Lorraine) Davis of Spanish Fork; and brother-in-law, Lew Banks of Provo. Allene was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest E. and Ivy C. Tittensor Edna Ellen England Tittensor, 89, died May 10, 2005 at her home in American Fork. Born January 6, 1916 in Plain City, Utah the daughter of Merlin and Florence Taylor England. She married Emmett Handy Tittensor in Ogden in 1939 their marriage was solemnized in the Provo Temple in 1990. Edna was a Seamstress and an Assistant Pharmacist for the Utah State Developmental Center, she was a Pink Lady at American Fork Hospital, and was an active member of the American Fork 8th Ward. Survived by her daughter Mrs. Fred (Diane) Wagstaff, Walsburg; two sons Dennis (Nanette) Tittensor, Sparks, NV; and Scott (Judy) Tittensor, Sparks, NV. 13 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and her sister JeNeal Thomas, West Warren, UT. Wagoner, Joan Kelly Joan Kelly Wagoner Joan Kelly Wagoner of Springville UT passed away on April 23, 2005 in Apple Valley CA after years of enduring a long and painful illness. She was born in Springville June 3, 1936 to Paul and Mary Spafford Kelly. She graduated from Springville High School in 1954 where she was a mighty Red Devil cheerleader. Joan was a faithful Red Devil fan to her last day. Joan was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. Her family meant everything. She was always there to lend a helping hand, give advice, tell a bad "club" joke, or just sit and listen. She will be surely missed, but will live forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. Joan is survived by her husband Alan B. Wagoner of Apple Valley CA, 4 children, David (Darcie) Allan of Oak City UT, Jeff (Kim) Allan of Keller TX, Jaimie (Robb) Shipp of Apple Valley CA. and Chad (Paige) Allan of Provo UT, 14 grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brother Bud (Myrtle) Lowe of Stafford AZ, sister Marie Barrett of Springville UT, sister Pauline (Don) Farrer of Provo UT, brother George (Jan) Kelly of St. George UT, and sister-in-law Shirleen Lowe of Springville UT. Joan was preceded in death by her parents Paul and Mary Kelly, and a brother Jay Lowe. Joan's body was cremated on April 27, 2005 in Apple Valley.
