She was born in Inkom, Idaho on 17 February 1923, daughter of Charles Floyd Pope and Myrtle Richardson. Her parents moved to Montana when she was seven years old, and she received her education there. She married Arthur John Allen on 14 February 1946 in Carson City, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received many awards and honors from the government for her outstanding performance while employed by the Army Department of Defense. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous ward and stake positions. She and her husband served as missionaries at the Manti Temple and in Louisville, Kentucky. She taught early-morning seminary for many years, and every young man who attended seminary in Mary's class later went on to serve a mission for the Church. She loved all children, and she influenced the lives of many for good. She crocheted baby blankets, and her watercolor paintings are treasured by her family. Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Arthur John Allen, and her four children, Carla Cruff, Sheryl Uluave (Peter), Arthur William Allen (Mary), and John Lee Allen (Theresa). She has 22 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her five siblings. We honor her exceptional life and her example to all. Bills, James Boyd James Boyd Bills James Boyd Bills, 81, Passed away on May 16, 2005 in Nephi, UT after a long illness. He was born and raised in Ftn. Green, where he was a life-long resident until 3 years ago when he went to reside at Heritage Hills Care Center in Nephi. He was born on Sept. 29, 1923 to James W. and Eliza Charlotte Bills. He was a Veteran of World War II where he served in the Phillippines and New Guinea. On Nov. 9, 1946 he married Norma Jean Nielsen in Salt Lake City. They were sealed in the Manti Temple on April 1, 1978. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was employed at Nephi Rubber Plant, herded sheep for the Euray Allred family and also retired from the Moroni Feed Co, where he was known as the "Medicine Man". He is survived by 2 Sons and 3 daughters: Jim (Margaret) Bills of Nephi, Jean (Richard) Johnson of Mantua, Molly Robison of Moroni, Marvin (Coreen) Bills and Sharon Bills both of Ftn. Green. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, a son Ronald Bills, grand daughter Emily Johnson, his parents, his brothers Dick, John & Alton Bills, his sisters Vera Ried Jensen and Maxine Garlick. Funeral services will be held on Friday May 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ftn. Green 1st Ward Chapel. Creer, Vivienne Taylor Vivienne Taylor Creer Vivienne Taylor Creer, 89, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away Peacefully at home on May 12, 2005. She was born August 19, 1915 to Golden and Evelyn Madsen Taylor in Payson, Utah. In 1937, Vivienne married her lifelong sweetheart William E. Creer. Mrs. Creer attended Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. After her marriage to William, she became an "Air Force wife" and traveled throughout the world while raising two daughters. Vivienne lived in such places as Panama, Paris, Madrid, Puerto Rico, and Washington, D.C. twice. While in Paris, Vivienne attended the Cordon Bleu School of Cooking. Vivienne was delighted with her life as a military wife. Parties, Bridge, Mah Jong, and meeting new people were a source of endless excitement and pleasure. She considered her hobby as "People". Viv was a Red Cross Volunteer, Grey Lady, and Dental Assistant. She was an avid golfer and it quickly became her passion. She shot two "Holes-in-one". Mrs. Creer and her husband moved to Las Vegas in 1969 after Major General Creer retired from the Air Force. She continued to pursue golf with her many friends and enjoyed cake decorating and decoupage. Vivienne is survived by her children, Carolyne Creer of Oakland, California, Elizabeth Creer Marx of Granite Bay, California, grandson, Edward Otto Marx, granddaughter, Deborah Elizabeth Marx, and brother, Noel of Provo, Utah. Vivienne was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, and brothers Sherm, Ross, and Wendell Taylor. Private Services will be held in Spanish Fork, Utah. Holmes, Quentin Warren Quentin Warren Holmes Quentin Warren Holmes, age 83 of Springville, passed away Monday, May 16, 2005. He was born September 25, 1921 in Rockford, Illinois to Martin and Ida Belk Holmes. He married Dorothy Smith June 30, 1946 in Berkley, California. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple November 30, 1962. Quentin served in the U.S. Air Force for three years in the South Pacific during WWII. He graduated U. C. Berkley in Civil Engineering and was the project engineer for the Salt Lake Veterans Hospital and the Palisades Dam in Idaho. He then worked for Spink Engineering in Sacramento for 35 years. Quentin was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served two church service missions with his wife in Sacramento, California and at the Provo MTC. He served 20 years as executive secretary under three stake presidents, served in a bishopric, as a high priest group leader and on the high counsel. He enjoyed traveling and genealogy. He was enthralled with history, deeply committed to his country and had an ever-growing love for his family. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Holmes; daughter, Gail (Terry) Oakes; son, Stuart (Sharon) Holmes; daughter, Debbie (Don) Ely; daughter, Trina (Ed) Belliston; 10 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and a sister, Evelyn Westley. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 20, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 235 East 550 North in Springville. Johnston, James Morgan James Morgan Johnston James Morgan Johnston, 85, of Pleasant Grove passed away May 16, 2005 at his home. He was born January 8, 1920 in Paducah, KY to Henry and Ada Morgan Johnston. He married Mary Patricia O'Grady on March 31, 1956 in Vista, California. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Los Angeles Temple. James was raised in Paducah, KY. He joined the U. S. Marine Corp in 1939 and served his country honorably for 27 years. James was a decorated veteran of three wars and retired with the rank of Major. James and Patricia joined the LDS Church in 1975 and served faithfully in many callings. Their life-long labor was dedicated to genealogical research and temple work. James and Patricia raised their family in Carlsbad, California and moved to Pleasant Grove seven years ago. James is survived and will be loved and missed by his wife Patricia of 50 years; four children: Marcia (John) Butenschoen; Kathy (Claude) Rhead, Daniel (Valinda) Johnston, Mary (Gary) Hough; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His son, Timothy James Johnston, preceded him in death. Loader, Virginia Bezzant Virginia Bezzant Loader Virginia Bezzant Loader, 80, of Pleasant Grove, passed away peacefully at her loving granddaughter's home (Angie Tandy-Trammell) in Provo, Utah on Thursday, May 12, 2005. Virginia was born January 1, 1925, in Bingham, Utah, to Glen Lloyd and Luretha May Smith Bezzant. She married Forrest B. Loader in Provo. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Forrest passed away in 1981. Virginia grew up and attended schools in Pleasant Grove. Virginia dedicated her life to serving her husband and children. She cared for Forrest for many years while he battled M. S. She loved to be in her flower garden and won awards for her roses. Virginia learned the value of hard work as a third generation fruit farmer. She was very proud of her heritage and showed great respect for her ancestry. Virginia was a good friend to somany and could see the goodness in every person she met. She was an amazing mother, sister, grandmother, and friend. She is survived by her three children: Virginia Lee "Ginny" (Jerald) Chipman, Mesa, AZ; Patrice (Hamani) Pooi, Provo; and Joe (Maree) Loader, Salt Lake; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; four great great-grandchildren; three brothers: Robert, Jim, and Cliff Bezzant. She was preceded in death by two children: Gregory Loader and Suzanne Christensen. Morris H. Nelson Morris H. Nelson of Provo, Utah, peacefully returned to the joy and comfort of his heavenly home on May 15, 2005, after a valiant battle with cancer. A kind, caring, and devoted husband and father, his gentle strength consistently sustained his family through the years. This same strength was exhibited while serving in various church and community positions. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully served in positions of leadership, including bishop, stake high councils, and youth programs in several parts of the country. He was known for his intelligence, dependability, and humble, quiet service. Morris was born December 4, 1931 in Columbia, Utah, son of Levi A. and Erma (Duncan) Nelson. His childhood years in Columbia were filled with playing in the blue clay sand hills, fishing, hunting, camping, and target shooting. He attended Carbon High School in Price, Utah, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. Later, he was selected for the Utah State All-Star Football Squad. He attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship and was proud to have been part of the Skyline Conference Championship teams of 1951, 1952, and 1953. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduating in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, he accepted employment with Shell Chemical Company in Torrance, California. On June 10, 1955, he married Jeri Lu Emerson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1960. His professional career gave him the opportunity to live in Torrance, CA; Cheshire, CT; Parkersburg, WV; and Missouri City, TX. After 37 years with Shell, he retired and moved to Provo, UT. Morris and Jeri Lu were the parents of four children; Linda, Jill, Kent, and Jennifer. He was the ultimate father, always available to help with homework, chaperone dances, enjoy football games, and lend a listening ear. His wise counsel guided, lifted, and sustained his family. As a loving family patriarch, he exhibited both strength and humility, gentleness and patience. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Durward and Max, and his son, Dr. Kent Morris Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Jeri Lu Nelson, of Provo, UT, and daughters, Linda (Bert) Waite of West Jordan, UT; Jill (Bill) Crandell of Provo, UT; Jennifer (Brent) Matsu of Firestone, CO; sister, Leatrice Nielsen of Antioch, CA; daughter-in-law Kimberly Nelson of Lakewood, CO; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rock Canyon Chapel, 2445 North 650 East, Provo, UT. Nielsen, Louise Carlisle Louise Carlisle Nielsen 1908-2005 Our beloved mother, Louise Carlisle Nielsen, age 96, passed away on May 12, 2005 in Orem, Utah. She was born on September 12, 1908 in Millcreek, Utah, the fifth child of Joseph Alma (Talt) and Mary Elizabeth Carn Carlisle. She married John (Jack) Nielsen November 7, 1930 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 29, 1937. Mother was raised in Millcreek, but left the shelter of the mountains to marry her sweetheart in Pennsylvania during the peak of the depression. They lived in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia, PA, Baltimore and Hagerstown, MD and Alhambra, CA as they moved about the country with dad's employment with Westinghouse. They returned to Utah in 1950 and lived for some 46 years on Connor Street in the Garden Heights area of Salt Lake. In 1996 mom and dad sold the family home and moved to Cove Point Retirement Center in Provo. They lived there until dad's death on November 16, 1997. Mother continued to live at Cove Point until December 2004 when she moved to Beehive Homes on 800 East in Orem. The family is grateful to the staff at Cove Point and Beehive Homes, who looked after her over the years. Mother was an active member of the LDS Church her entire life and faithfully fulfilled many callings, including ward Relief Society President and served in the Primary for over 20 years teaching many girls how to crochet. She made many beautiful handicraft items which she freely shared with family and friends. She will be fondly remembered for all of the receiving blankets her grandchildren and great-grandchildren received over the years. Mother is survived by one son and three daughters: J. Boyd (Candace) Nielsen, Lehi, Glennae (Don)Fielden, Salt Lake City, Nanette (Merrill) Beckstead, Orem, and Marva Blalock, Taylorsville. She has 25 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother Richard M. Carlisle, Salt Lake City. She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Jeffrey J. Beckstead; one brother, Raymond and five sisters; Rhea Breeze, Almeda Carlisle, Thelma Hill, Alice Todd and Mary Fuller. At our mother's request, no funeral services will be held, but family and friends may visit on Thursday afternoon from 2:00PM to 3:00PM at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East. He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on November 11, 1916, to parents Eugene and Lilly Terry Stevens. Jay had three sisters and one brother. He is survived by his sister Bessie Stevens Bringhurst of Springville, Utah. Jay and his family moved to Provo, Utah when he was young, and he was raised and educated in Provo. Jay attended Brigham Young University (BYU) where he met Donna McCoard in 1934. They were married August 4, 1940 by Donna's uncle, Charles McCoard, a minister. They resided in Provo and lived in the same home for 55 years before moving to Kennewick 3 years ago. Jay is survived by his wife Donna McCoard Stevens of Kennewick; son Don Jay Stevens and wife Dottie of Kennewick; daughter Mary Stevens Anglin of Washington, Utah; and grandson Gerard Brian Cullen and wife Melanie of Tucson, Arizona. From 1944-1946, Jay served in the Army Signal Corps in the Pacific Theater in New Guinea, the Philippines and Japan. After years of working for the family business, the McCoard Oil Company, he returned to Brigham Young University to further his education in 1962. He received a BA from BYU in 1964 and a Masters of Public Administration (MPA) also from BYU in 1971. Jay worked for the State of Utah as an administrator in various programs related to citizens with mental retardation including the Utah State Training School in American fork, Utah. After retirement in 1981 he continued his support of citizens with mental retardation. Jay was also a member of Elks and Rotary Clubs in Utah and is a Paul Harris Fellow. While at BYU working on his master's program Jay befriended and tutored students from Thailand. Twenty years later, they reunited in Thailand for an extended visit. He also maintained life-long friendships with many of the people he served with in the army. Jay and his wife Donna enjoyed traveling and new experiences; they traveled extensively in the United States, and have been to Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland, Tahiti, Fiji, Australia and New Zealand. Travel included their love for rock hunting, fishing, bird-watching, camping, and snow-shoeing. While living at the Royal Columbian Retirement Inn in Kennewick, Jay was active on resident committees and was the reigning "Trivia Master" in the trivia games. There was a Service for Jay in Kennewick on Monday, May 9, 2005. There will be a memorial at the Provo City Cemetery at a later date. Published in the Daily Herald on 5/18/2005. Thomson, Betty Jean Hamblin Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson 1934 - 2005 Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson, age 70, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Monday, May 16, 2005 of complications from cancer. Betty was born June 3, 1934 in Payson, Utah to Lyman and Margaret Gurr Hamblin the first of 9 children. She attended Payson High School. She married Walter Thomson. They later divorced. She made her home in Bountiful where she raised her three wonderful children, Steven, Michael and Heather. She worked for the State of Utah and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mission Accounting Department where she retired in 1999. In her youth she was an excellent student. She also enjoyed singing and dancing in the school plays at Payson High School and all sports. Betty was a member of the Payson High girls basketball and softball teams. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chad and Larry Hamblin; and grandchildren, Dallin and Rachel Thomson. She is survived by her brother, Lyman Hamblin (Kay), Provo; brother, Wallace Hamblin (Joan), Springville; sister, Linda Averett (Lanny), Springville; sister, Wanda York (Ted), Tooele; brother, Curt Hamblin (Sandy), Orem; sister, Pam Logan (Michael), Hurricane; son, Steven Thomson (AnJee), Clearfield; son, Michael Thomson (Alison), Centerville; daughter, Heather Thomson, Bountiful; grandchildren, Kyle Ariotti, Joshua Ariotti, Micah Thomson, Bailey Thomson, McCall Thomson, Erin Thomson, all of Centerville; AuLora Thomson, Steven Robert Thomson, Kaitlyn Thomson, Jonathan David Thomson, all of Clearfield; and many nieces and nephews who loved her.
