She was born in Inkom, Idaho on 17 February 1923, daughter of Charles Floyd Pope and Myrtle Richardson. Her parents moved to Montana when she was seven years old, and she received her education there. She married Arthur John Allen on 14 February 1946 in Carson City, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She received many awards and honors from the government for her outstanding performance while employed by the Army Department of Defense. She was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in numerous ward and stake positions. She and her husband served as missionaries at the Manti Temple and in Louisville, Kentucky. She taught early-morning seminary for many years, and every young man who attended seminary in Mary's class later went on to serve a mission for the Church. She loved all children, and she influenced the lives of many for good. She crocheted baby blankets, and her watercolor paintings are treasured by her family. Mary is survived by her husband of fifty-nine years, Arthur John Allen, and her four children, Carla Cruff, Sheryl Uluave (Peter), Arthur William Allen (Mary), and John Lee Allen (Theresa). She has 22 grandchildren and 44 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her five siblings. We honor her exceptional life and her example to all. Anderson Feb 28, 1937 - May 14, 2005 Antoinette (Tony) Henderika Van Blankenstein Anderson age 68 peacefully passed away on May 14, 2005 in Lancaster, CA. She was born Feb. 28, 1937 in Rotterdam, Holland to Art and Rhea Radder Van Blankenstein. Her family immigrated to the United States in 1954. She became a United States citizen in 1960. That was a very special day for her, she was proud to be an American citizen. She married Theo Floyd Anderson on Nov. 25, 1955. They had two sons, Aart and Tony Anderson. She was a mother to Theo's three young children, Wayne, Scott and Vicki Anderson. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and she especially loved the Florida Keys. She worked in her yard daily and her flower gardens were her pride and joy. She had many different jobs but her main occupation was a wife and mother. She is survived by three of her children, Aart Anderson, Hemet, CA, Tony (MaryLou) Anderson, Palmdale, CA, Vicki (Barry) Peterson, Lehi, UT, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a sister Rhet VanDemerwe, West Valley, UT, and a brother Martin Van Blankenstein, Sandy, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband, 2 sons, Wayne and Scott Anderson, 1 granddaughter, Jennifer Anderson and her parents. A viewing will be held Friday, May 20th at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 S Redwood Rd from 12:00-2:00. Graveside services will be at 2:00. Baumgarten was born September 15, 1929 in Oakland, California to Nieline Rose Mortensen and Leon Otto Baumgarten. He passed away peacefully on May 16, 2005 at the home of his daughter. He spent most of his growing up years in San Bernardino, California. He graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1948. He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and served in the Signal Corps. He was stationed in Korea for 2.5 years. After his discharge in 1952 he was called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the West Central States Mission. Jim married Geraldine Healy in the Salt Lake Temple on March 18, 1955. He graduated from Brigham Young University in 1957 with honors. He completed a Masters Degree in History in 1960. Jim then began a career as a Social Worker for the County of San Bernardino, California. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1967 with a Masters Degree in Social Work. He had a very fulfilling professional career in California and Utah before retiring in 1995. He was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life and served in many capacities, including High Counselor, Bishop and Temple Worker. His greatest joys in life were the gospel of Jesus Christ, his wife, his children, reading and learning, traveling, and ice cream, especially Snelgrove's carmel-cashew milkshakes. He is survived by his wife, Gerry, his children, LeeAnn (Anthony) Cummings, Orem; Cheryl (Karl) Radmall, Orem; Jeanne (Douglas) Slater, Provo; Paul M. (Wendy) Baumgarten, Orlando, FL; J. Alan (Sharon) Baumgarten of Dallas, TX; Steven F. (Christine) Baumgarten, Orem; Mark J. (Kristen) Baumgarten, Provo; and 25 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward J. Baumgarten of St. George; and David R. Baumgarten of Redlands, CA; and a very large extended family. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elizabeth, by a brother, John L. Baumgarten, and by his parents. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the Morgan Day Care Center, Cambry House, and Harmony Home Health for their loving and compassionate care during his long illness. Burgi, Fred David Fred David Burgi Fred David Burgi, 78, died Saturday May 14th in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the home of his daughter, who had been caring for him. He was born in Mammoth, Utah on March 31, 1927 to Ernest and Teresa Evans Burgi. He married Margaret Betty Pratt on November 1, 1963, they later divorced. Fred left this mortal life following a long fight with numerous health problems, however, he is now reunited with his mom and dad. Though we will miss him, he is now free from the pains and trials of this life. Fred was a Navy veteran, and retired from Geneva Steel. He was a very kind person, and would give you the shirt off his back. He is survived by his daughter, Catherine (Steve) Powell of Las Vegas, Nevada; stepdaughter, Jacque Slater; brothers, Ernest Burgi of Pittsburgh, PA; and Robert (Beverly) Burgi of Orem, UT; two sisters, Barbara (Ivan) Ferguson of American Fork, UT; and Colleen (Hayden) Larsen of West Valley City, UT; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Fitzgerald, Naomi Brower Naomi Brower Fitzgerald Naomi Brower Fitzgerald, loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 85 of Murray, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005. She was born April 3, 1920 in Flowell, Utah to Ormus Earl and Sarah Robinson Brower. She married Paul Ray Fitzgerald on June 4, 1941 in Fillmore, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. Naomi graduated from Millard High School and attended Brigham Young University in Provo. She worked as a secretary at the University of Illinois, Urbana, Illinois from 1965- 1985 while her husband was a professor there. They retired in 1985 to Springville, Utah. Naomi was a member of the LDS Church and served in many positions including Primary (her favorite), Relief Society, Young Women's and in temple extraction. She is survived by her children: Nancy F. Dahl, Butte, Montana; Merrily (Stephen R.) Noble, Murray, UT; Robin (Kent) Fuellenbach, Salmon, Idaho; Patrick Ray (Debbie Conolly) Fitzgerald, Ogden, UT; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters: Ruthmary Brower and Peggy Robinson of Flowell, UT and Shirley (Lowell) Dobson of Spanish Fork, UT. She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter. Nelson, Maxine Tidwell Maxine Tidwell Nelson Pleasant Grove, Maxine Tidwell Nelson, 82, passed away on May 13, 2005. She was born Oct 14, 1923 in Nephi, Utah to Electa Sperry and Thomas Montaque Tidwell. Maxine was baptized in 1946 as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. She remained active in the American Fork congregation until her death. She married Gene Robert Nelson and they were later divorced. She is survived by 6 children, Cathy (Marvin) Flatt; Monte (Kathy) Nelson; Peggy (Tom) McLachlan; Dave Nelson; John Nelson; Lindsey (Sharon) Nelson; 22 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and a sister, LaRae (Robert) Greenwood. Nelson of Provo, Utah, peacefully returned to the joy and comfort of his heavenly home on May 15, 2005, after a valiant battle with cancer. A kind, caring, and devoted husband and father, his gentle strength consistently sustained his family through the years. This same strength was exhibited while serving in various church and community positions. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he faithfully served in positions of leadership, including bishop, stake high councils, and youth programs in several parts of the country. He was known for his intelligence, dependability, and humble, quiet service. Morris was born December 4, 1931 in Columbia, Utah, son of Levi A. and Erma (Duncan) Nelson. His childhood years in Columbia were filled with playing in the blue clay sand hills, fishing, hunting, camping, and target shooting. He attended Carbon High School in Price, Utah, where he excelled in football, basketball, baseball and track. Later, he was selected for the Utah State All-Star Football Squad. He attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship and was proud to have been part of the Skyline Conference Championship teams of 1951, 1952, and 1953. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduating in 1955 with a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering, he accepted employment with Shell Chemical Company in Torrance, California. On June 10, 1955, he married Jeri Lu Emerson in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Los Angeles LDS Temple in 1960. His professional career gave him the opportunity to live in Torrance, CA; Cheshire, CT; Parkersburg, WV; and Missouri City, TX. After 37 years with Shell, he retired and moved to Provo, UT. Morris and Jeri Lu were the parents of four children; Linda, Jill, Kent, and Jennifer. He was the ultimate father, always available to help with homework, chaperone dances, enjoy football games, and lend a listening ear. His wise counsel guided, lifted, and sustained his family. As a loving family patriarch, he exhibited both strength and humility, gentleness and patience. Morris was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Durward and Max, and his son, Dr. Kent Morris Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Jeri Lu Nelson, of Provo, UT, and daughters, Linda (Bert) Waite of West Jordan, UT; Jill (Bill) Crandell of Provo, UT; Jennifer (Brent) Matsu of Firestone, CO; sister, Leatrice Nielsen of Antioch, CA; daughter-in-law Kimberly Nelson of Lakewood, CO; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Thomson, Betty Jean Hamblin Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson 1934 - 2005 Betty Jean Hamblin Thomson, age 70, our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away Monday, May 16, 2005 of complications from cancer. Betty was born June 3, 1934 in Payson, Utah to Lyman and Margaret Gurr Hamblin the first of 9 children. She attended Payson High School. She married Walter Thomson. They later divorced. She made her home in Bountiful where she raised her three wonderful children, Steven, Michael and Heather. She worked for the State of Utah and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Mission Accounting Department where she retired in 1999. In her youth she was an excellent student. She also enjoyed singing and dancing in the school plays at Payson High School and all sports. Betty was a member of the Payson High girls basketball and softball teams. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chad and Larry Hamblin; and grandchildren, Dallin and Rachel Thomson. He was born February 1, 1954 in Payson, Utah to Dean Wilson and Alene Jensen Warthen. Guy graduated from Spanish Fork High School. He was employed by Spanish Fork Foundry. He later started Guy's Bike Shop, which he turned into a successful business for over 25 years. During his years in business, he served customers from Price and Nephi, to Provo and Orem. Guy enjoyed listening to Western music, playing checkers, and riding and repairing bikes. He is survived by his sisters: Lorriel Lee (Richard) Thorn, Merrily Hall, and Cheryl (Jeff) Waits. Guy was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Michael Dean Warthen; niece, Haylee Hall; and brother-in-law, Donald Kent Hall.
