Curtis R. Curtis Dalton In loving memory of a husband, father, grandfather and friend, R. Curtis Dalton passed away May 14th in a car accident while traveling in Paraguay. He was 56. Curt was born in Provo, UT in 1951 to Arthur W Dalton & Florence Gardiner. He moved to the San Fernando Valley in 1964, where he met and married Dorothy Irene Layne, ultimately settling in San Juan Capistrano in 1990. A father of six, Curtis was a CPA/businessman in the San Fernando Valley and Orange County for 32 years. A memorial service will be held in his honor this Saturday, May 21st, at 11:00 a.m. at the Laguna Niguel Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (22851 Aliso Creek Rd., Aliso Viejo, California). Additional services will be held on Monday, May 23rd, at 11:00 a.m. at the Berg Mortuary in Provo, Utah (185 East Center Street.), with graveside services to be held at the Provo City Cemetery (610 South State Street) following the conclusion of that meeting. Friends may call on the family at the Berg Mortuary prior to the services from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. Curt is survived by his wife, Dorothy, his father, Arthur; his brothers, Marvin and Kenneth; his children: Amanda Bourne (Troy), Michael Dalton (Brynne), Melissa Richardson (Matthew), Matthew Dalton, Megan Greaves (James), and Mitchell Dalton; and eight grandchildren. Published in the Daily Herald on 5/20/2005. Gates, Susan Kay Pierce Susan Kay Pierce Gates Susan Kay Pierce Gates, of American Fork, passed away May 18, 2005, in Provo, Utah. She was born Sept. 1, 1931, in Manti, Utah, the daughter of Sylvester Lee and Elsie Amelia Nielsen Pierce. She married Ray Gates on May 2, 1949, in Nevada. They were later divorced, but have remained very close friends. Susan loved her family very much and enjoyed listening to music and reading. She liked watching current affairs, politics, and the news. She also loved shopping. Susan worked as a supervisor at the Heritage Care Center in American Fork. Survived by 2 sons and 2 daughters, Lee Ray (Debbie) Gates, Pleasant Grove; Wayne (Mary Lou) Gates, Provo; Kay (Jeff) Roundy, and Sherrie (Shannon) Robb, both of Pleasant Grove; 16 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Leear Pierce, Santaquin; and Larry Pierce, Provo. Preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Robert Pierce; 2 great-grandchildren, Melody Lynn Robb and Colton Jay Hunter; and a step-mother, Beaulah Baxter Pierce. We love you Mom and Grandma. Published in the Daily Herald on 5/20/2005. Montoya, Joseph Abraham Joseph Abraham Montoya "Abie" Joseph Abraham "Abie" Montoya, age 84 of Mapleton, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005. He was born February 12, 1921 in Ventura, California to Joseph and Adella Reyez Montoya. He married Esther Preciado November 21, 1940 in Santa Paula, California. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years during WWII, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He was a policeman, he also worked civil service for the government for 20 years. Joseph was an avid sports fan. He loved reading and was a volunteer at the Mapleton Library for 10 years. He was a Free Mason. He was involved with Operation Bootstrap working with troubled youth. Joseph was proud of his Mexican-Indian heritage, his education and his grand and great-grandchildren. "We Love You Gramps!" He is survived by his wife, Esther of Mapleton; one son, Joseph Anthony Montoya of Wisconsin; seven grandchildren: James, Paul, Lynanne, Joy, Stephen, Amy and Linda; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry and one sister, Della Lister. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2005 at 2 p.m. in the Mapleton North Stake Center at 475 North 1600 West in Mapleton. There will be a viewing Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 82 West 400 North in Mapleton and Saturday at the church one hour prior to services. Parry, John Ray John Ray Parry John Ray Parry age 79 of Mapleton, Utah passed away on Friday May 13, 2005 from causes incident to cancer. He was born November 7, 1925 in Winter Quarters, Utah to John C. and Gladys Parry. He married Dorothy Swasey on October 2, 1946 in the Salt Lake City Temple. John grew up in Castle Gate, Utah and attended Springville High School where he was drafted into the army at the age of 17. From there he served in Germany during WWII for two years. He is also a veteran of the Korean War. John is survived by his three sons, Randy (Louise) Parry, Roger (Maxine) Parry both of Mapleton, and Ricky Parry of Provo, Utah. He has 9 grandchildren, 3 step grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. A brother Bill (Esther) Parry also of Mapleton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Parry. Parents John C. and Gladys Parry, sister, Helen Whitney, son Alan Parry, and 2 grandchildren. A viewing will be held Sunday May 22, 2005 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 E. 200 S. Springville, Utah where friends and family are welcome to attend. Funeral services will be held Monday May 23, 2005 at the Heritage Church, 1600 North Main in Mapleton with a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 with services starting at 11:00. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery with military rite by the American Legion District #4. Richardson, Shirl Ballard Shirl Ballard Richardson Shirl Ballard Richardson, 85, beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center. He was born May 3, 1920, in Oakley, Idaho, the youngest of four children to Harold Darwin Richardson and Abbie Day Ballard. He graduated from Cyprus High School and later from The Western University, Portland, Oregon, in Chiropractic Naturopathy. He married Mildred Warren, July 22, 1943, and later divorced in 1967. Shirl served in the U.S. Army during WW II, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and was decorated with the European, African, Middle Eastern Service Medal, the American Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He worked as a Millwright at Kennecott Copper Corp and retired after 25 year's service. He loved dancing, singing, big band music, history, fishing, camping, and family gatherings. Shirl married June Mower, September 22, 1972 and has resided in Orem, Utah. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully in various callings. Shirl is survived by his wife June, sister, Farol (Bob, deceased) Jackson, daughters, Shirley (Glen, deceased) Wilson, and Janice Roestenburg, three step-sons, David (Joanne) Mower, Douglas (Nann) Mower and Gregory (Marilyn) Mower, 18 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Harold, a sister, Helen, and a granddaughter, Julie Roestenburg. Sager, Ellery Binns Ellery Binns Sager Ellery Binns Sager, the fourth son born to William Henry and Catherine Binns Sager, arrived at their home in American Fork, UT., October 24, 1908. He passed away May 18, 2005, at the American Fork Hospital, 33 years to the day of his brother Ray's passing. Farming was his life long calling. He was most happy when at home on the farm. He took great pride in the farm and garden, generously sharing bounteous produce with family and friends. Visitors enjoyed his unique sense of humor and listening to interesting experiences about his earlier years. He was honest, honorable, ambitious and hard working all his life. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He married D. Lorraine Jex, May 29, 1965. Survived by his wife; step-son, W. Dennis Jex; nieces, LaRay Sager Pittman; Darlene Sager Patrick; cousin, Marilyn Binns Wyler; and many extended family members and loyal friends. Preceded in death by his parents; brothers, LaVoy; H.J. "Ray"; and Carroll Sager; nephew, Ronald W. Sager. In place of services, Ellery asked that you visit a friend or do a good deed with that time.
