She was born in Benjamin, Utah, September 10, 1911, to Charles W. and Mary (Wood) Stewart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Baum, who died in March of 1979. She is survived by her two children: Norma Jones, of Roseville, CA; and Dr. Ronald C. Baum, and his wife, Candice, of Cincinnati, OH. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Vera was a member of the Pioneer Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Woodland, CA. She had been a primary school teacher, and had helped her husband in running the Charles Baum Refrigeration Service for 50 years. Vera had served her mission in Florida, and shared many memories of this time with friends and family. Friends and family are invited to attend the graveside services for Vera, to be held Monday, November 7, 2005, at 2 p.m., at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 S. State Street, Provo, Utah. Christensen, Anna Beardall Anna Beardall Christensen died peacefully on Thursday, November 3, 2005, at the age of 94. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and aunt. Anna was born to George Lavell Beardall and Emma Childs Beardall, February 20, 1911, in Springville, Utah. During her early childhood, the family lived in Bingham while her father worked at the copper mine. She attended schools in Springville and lived most of her life there. Anna graduated from BYU with a degree in education and home economics. As a young woman, she enjoyed teaching sewing at Moroni High School, Richfield High School; and finally, Springville High School. She married the love of her life, Maiben Lee Christensen, December 15, 1950. Anna was a life-long active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many church callings, and loved teaching. Anna especially loved being a stake missionary and working in the Provo temple with her husband, Maiben. As their health began to fail, it became necessary to move to South Salt Lake and be near their son, Warren. They worried about moving, after a lifetime in Springville; but, the Lincoln Heights Ward welcomed them with acceptance and service. The ward took them in as a "hen gathereth her chickens under her wing". She is survived by her son, Warren (Kathryn) Christensen; grandson, Peter Christensen; a niece, Bonnie Decker; and a nephew, John Beardall. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Maiben L. Christensen; and brother, Warren Beardall. Services will be held on Tuesday November 8, 2005, at 11 a.m., at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville. A viewing will be held on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the mortuary; and, one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Published in the Daily Herald on 11/6/2005. Cooper, Melva Johnson Melva Johnson Cooper, 87, died Friday, November 4, 2005, in Orem, Utah. She was born to Julius Johnson and Sarah Caroline Lunceford Johnson, January 4, 1918, in Lakeview, Utah. She married Andrew H. Cooper in Lakeview, Utah, July 23, 1934; later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Melva was a homemaker and loved crocheting and bottling fruit. She was a member of the Orem Women's Club and loved traveling with her family. She enjoyed fishing and was "One Good Fisherman." She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a visiting teacher and served a Stake Mission with her husband. The family wants to thank the staff and nurses at Orchard Park, Canyon Breeze, Stonewood Manor, and Timpanogos Hospitals. Melva is survived by her husband, Andrew; son, Jack Cooper, Mapleton,; daughters: Elaine (Mark) Farrer, Orem; Coleen (Ken) Woodhouse, Martinez, CA; DeAne Jensen, Antioch, CA; 19 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren; a brother, Milt Johnson, Orem. She was preceded in death by five brothers, one sister, granddaughter, Natalie Farrer; and grandson, Todd Jensen. Kiggins "Windy", loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on November 3, 2005, peacefully in his sleep. Wendell was born February 14, 1946, in Provo, Utah, to Edna Mae (Draper) and Elmo William Kiggins. He was married to Karen Kiggins, "The love of his life", on February 18, 1967. Wendell was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who adored his children and grandchildren. His greatest joy was being with his family. His love of cars and car racing was shared by his family, who enjoyed his enthusiasm in restoring classic cars and attending car shows. He attended Utah schools and worked at Geneva Steel for 33 years. Wendell is survived by his wife, Karen; and children: Chance (Jenny) Kiggins, Brandon (Sue) Kiggins, Cindy (VerNon) Groo, Russell (Kristy) Kiggins; grandchildren and extended grandchildren: Chance Jr., Danny, Joey, Ryder, Shawn, Sydney, Sadie, Kelsey, Shaylee, Caylee, Nina, Tina, Zack, Chelsea, Drake, and Riley; extended family: Lisa (Ron) Dixon and Cher (Issac) Neilson, whom he loved as daughters; brothers and sisters: Rex (Duffy) Kiggins, Malon (Aleta) Kiggins, Glenda (Leonard) Odell, Myrna (Robert) Skinner, Daisy Kiggins, and Sherry Kiggins; in-laws, Barbara Johnson, and Glenn and Gisela Yates. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Steven D. Kiggins; brothers, Frank and Kayle; and his mother and father. Wendell was a caring, devoted father, husband, and grandfather who will be dearly missed as he embarks upon this final journey. He will live on in the hearts and minds of those who love him. He is now at peace, reunited with Steve, his baby. We love you, Dad! Knight, Jo Lewis Jo Lewis Knight, age 78, passed away peacefully in his Mapleton home, due to complications of prostate cancer, on November 4, 2005, surrounded by his family. Jo was born in Salt Lake City on April 30, 1927, to Charles Lewis and Elsie Roberta (Dansie) Knight. He graduated from Granite High School, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1945. He served as a pharmacist mate in Rhode Island at the end of World War II. After an honorable discharge from the Navy, he served a 30-month LDS mission to Finland. He graduated from the University of Utah in 1954 with a Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science and a teaching certificate. During his professional life he taught math and science at the junior and high school levels and taught at the Utah State Hospital Youth Center until his retirement in 1989. He also worked for the government in Public Health Services and was a drywall contractor. He married Janette Mae Chapman on August 29, 1952, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. After their marriage, they lived in Salt Lake City until 1963. The family moved to Springville, where they lived until 1983, after which they relocated to Mapleton. He loved raising his family here. Dad had a great love for the gospel of Jesus Christ and dedicated his life to service in the church. He served in several bishoprics and on the high council of the stakes in which he lived. His greatest love was sharing the gospel with others and working with the youth. Along with his service in Finland, he also served a mission to the Denver Temple with his favorite companion, Mom. He served in the Provo Temple and was a ward missionary for as long as he was physically capable. His friends and neighbors will always remember the "Bishop's Barbecue", and Thousand Mile Stew. He was Bishop of the Mapleton 6th Ward and always said, "It was the best job in the church". He truly loved people. It was always his pleasure and greatest desire to "do" for others, from cooking breakfast, lunch, or dinner, to putting the finishing touches on a dry wall repair job. He will be remembered for his polite kindnesses. He found his greatest joy and peace while doing activities with his family. His favorite place to recharge was at "The Cabin". Time there was spent with his kids, grandkids, or just he and Mom alone, with his 4-wheeler. It was his favorite place in the world. His is survived by his wife, Janette; his sister, Bessie (Dick) Pratt; and brothers: Blaine (Diane) Knight, Rollie (Lois) Knight; his seven children: Becky (Paul) Cloward, Paul Knight, Rachael (Dana) Perrenoud, Ruth (Clint) Bybee, Berty Morgan, Peter (Willa) Knight, and Joe (Jeannette) Knight; and 23 grandchildren: Casey, Katie, Kelly, Cory Cloward; Sarah (Adam) Korb, Krysten, Jonathan Knight; Andrea (Cody) Evans, Daniel, Maria, Kristina, Bryan Perrenoud; Charlie Marie, Ryan, Michael Bybee; T.J. (Stephanie), Tahsha (Brad) Ford, Keynan, Kolton, Luke Morgan, Kayla, Tyrel, Alysa Knight. Meyer Jr., Henry Frederick "Hank" Our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Henry "Hank" Frederick Meyer, Jr., 77, passed away peacefully at home in Salem, Utah, on November 2, 2005. He was born on February 29, 1928, in Milwaukee, WI, to Henry Frederick, Sr. and Elsie Caroline Wilhemine Ehlert Meyer. He married the love of his life, Catherine Isabelle Urbank, in 1953, in the Mesa, Arizona LDS Temple. Hank honorably served during World War II in the Merchant Marine. He has lived in Utah for the past 37 years. He worked at Brigham Young University and spent time working in the school system in American Samoa. He and his wife served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dubbo, Australia. Hank is survived by his wife, Catherine; children: Michael J. Meyer, Dinel Minson, Timothy K. Meyer, Paul H. Meyer, Amanda Wilson, and Elizabeth Rodeback. He is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Wayne Meyer, in Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Christine Meyer. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2005, at the South Valley View Ward, 25 West Apple Blossom Way in Salem, Utah. Melva Jarrett Openshaw, 89, passed away peacefully November 4, 2005, in Orem. She was born April 16, 1916, in Nephi, Utah, to Ronald and Ellen Olpin Jarrett. She married Bernell Openshaw, August 1, 1936, in Provo, Utah; and, they were later sealed in the Manti LDS Temple. He died August 28, 1960. Melva loved doing yard work, quilting, traveling, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, temple work, and being with her family. She has served in numerous callings in the LDS Church, and was a retired nurse of 19 years. She is survived by her children: LaMar and Connie Openshaw, Sharon Openshaw Simmons, Roger and Judy Openshaw, and Janet Openshaw Harris; 17 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren; brothers and sister: William Jarrett, Dee Jarrett, Thayne Jarrett, Elda Martell, Elmo Jarrett, Robert Jarrett, and Carl Jarrett. She was preceded in death by her husband; and brothers, Maurice and Kent Jarrett. Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 8th, at 11 a.m., in the Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, where friends may call from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Interment, Santaquin Cemetery. Published in the Daily Herald on 11/6/2005. Peterson, Vida Berg Vida Berg Peterson, 97, passed away on November 2, 2005, in Orem, Utah. Born in Midway, Utah, to John Emelius and Elizabeth Bergner Berg on January 29, 1908, she later moved to American Fork, Utah, where she attended school, graduating from American Fork High School. In 1929, she married Howard Peterson in the Salt Lake Temple. They began their married life in American Fork, but later moved to Burlingame, California, where they spent much of their married life. She and Howard returned to Utah in 1974, settling in Orem. Vida was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many organizations in her ward in Burlingame. She started the first Primary in Burlingame in the 1940's, holding the first meetings in her home. She was a visiting teacher throughout her entire adult life. She served a mission with her husband in the Virginia, Roanoke Mission in 1975-76. She also served as an ordinance worker in the Provo Temple for many years. Most recently, she served in the Member Locator Mission, in American Fork, Utah, until December, 2003. Vida was proud of her pioneer heritage and was active in the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers in California and Utah. She loved to work with her hands, making quilts and crocheting blankets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also loved to work in her garden. Her husband and two sons, Robert Howard and Grant Berg, preceded Vida in death. She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Mrs. Clark) Webb, of Lindon, twelve grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and two great, great grandchildren; and her sister, Marie Brown, of Orem. The family wishes to express gratitude to the staff, especially the nurses and aides, at Hearts for Hospice, for their loving care and concern for Vida in her last days. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 7, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Suncrest 10th Ward, 90 North 600 West, Orem, Utah. She was born in Denmark, June 12, 1915, to Christian Gerhard Dinesen and Martha Marie Abelone Jensen Dinesen. Elna came with her parents to the United States from Denmark in 1923. She married Homer F. Snow, and together they enjoyed extensive travel. Homer preceded her in death in 1979. Elna was employed as a secretary for Geneva Steel, from where she retired. She also had a love for cats. Elna is survived by her cousin, Owen Eldon Cameron; and Cameron second cousins: Connie, Peggy, Brenda, and Mark; and Christiansen second cousins: Mike, Phil, Julie, Brett, and Wendy. Taylor, Margie Ruth Gatherum Margie Ruth Gatherum Taylor, 86, of Pleasant Grove, long-time Millcreek Canyon resident, passed away peacefully on November 4, 2005, at home, with close family and friends by her side. She was born May 3, 1919, in Provo, to Claude William and Ella Beardall Gatherum. She married Marvin Stillman Taylor on September 12, 1940, in the Salt Lake Temple. Margie grew up in Holladay and attended Irvine Junior High School, where she enjoyed dancing in school assemblies. She graduated from Granite High School. Margie attended beauty school and became a licensed cosmetologist, where she worked on Hollywood Blvd for several years. After raising her family, she owned and operated Classic Wigs in the Cottonwood Mall. Beauty was a big part of her life, both in her career and by the way she lived her life. She enjoyed the art of dancing, loved reading good books and the scriptures. She was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings during her life. Margie lived a prosperous life filled with love and kindness, always sharing her beautiful smile with all who grew to love her. A special sparkle was always there for those men that entered her life. She was grateful to her youngest daughter, LaVella, and her loving husband, Bernie, for the wonderful care they gave to her over the years, especially in her final days. She is survived by her three daughters: Marva Eunice (Charles) Parke, Highland; Tillie Joan (Robert) Daniels, Idaho Falls; LaVella Pam (Bernie) Hopkin, Pleasant Grove; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren, and many loving children who called her grandma. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; sons: Leslie, Marvin "Shirl", Kim Stanley, and Claude Wren; sister, Norma Belle Cole; and brother, Sherman Edward Gatherum. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 8, 2005, at 11 a.m., in the Grovecreek Fifth Ward Chapel, 500 North 700 East, Pleasant Grove.
