She was born March 17, 1909 in Spring Lake, Utah to William and Fanny Viola Huish Butler. She was the 3rd of 10 children. Viola married George Marlin "Mike" Cowan on January 18, 1928 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 59 years before he passed away on March 5, 1987. Mrs. Cowan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was the ward chorister for 24 years, served as a teacher in all the organizations, worked in the library, was a visiting teacher and served as Young Women's President. She served in the Provo Temple for 21 years. While working in the temple, she was asked to learn the computer system. She then taught other ladies how to use the computer. She has always been interested in genealogy research and has traced both her and her husband's lines back several generations. She was a founding member of the Spring Lake Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and attended meetings until her death. She held many positions of leadership in this organization. Service to others was an important part of Viola's life. She started with the 4-H program in 1943 and served in many capacities for 32 years. She served on the county board and traveled to many other towns judging exhibits. She also judged many county and state fair exhibits. She won a Farm Bureau Award during this time. She was one of the 4-H leaders who, along with the county commissioners, started the Utah County Fair in 1969. Music was the love of Viola's life. She sang at many functions including the dedication of the memorial in Payson Park for those killed in World War II. She also sang at General Conference with both the Relief society and Primary choruses. She sang in many local operas. Viola helped with voter registration for many years and was also a voting place judge. She also enjoyed bowling. She started bowling at the age of 52. When she was in her early seventies, she started bowling in a league with one of her granddaughters and bowled until she was 84, winning many trophies. She and her husband enjoyed traveling. They traveled extensively in the Continental United States and Canada. They also traveled to England, Mexico and Hawaii. She is survived by 1 son, Frank (Evelyn) Cowan; 3 daughters, Nelda Owen, Zola (Johan) VanZeben and Marion Searle; 19 grandchildren, 55 great-grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Jay (Carol) Butler; 1 sister, Darthella Cook; a sister-in-law, Thelma Butler; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike; 2 sons, Dan and Michael; 1 grandson, Kerry Searle; 2 great-grandsons, 2 great-granddaughters, 5 brothers and 3 sisters. Viola loved all of her family members unconditionally. She was always proud of their accomplishments and supported them even when they faltered. We love you and will miss you. Funeral services will be held Friday, Nov. 18, 2005 at 1 :00 p.m. in the Spring Lake Ward Chapel, 12625 South Spring Lake Road, Spring Lake, Utah. Family and friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Utah Thursday evening, Nov. 17th, from 6-8 p.m. and at the chapel on Friday, 11:30 a.m.-12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery. Jones, Judith Boothe Judy Jones, beloved wife, mother and grandmother returned back to her Father in Heaven on November 9, 2005, in Mesa, Arizona. She was born June 5, 1940, in Orem, Utah to Nervin and Almera Lamoreaux.Boothe. A graduate of Orem High School, Judy attended Utah Valley Business College and Brigham Young University. On August 18, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart Douglas Jones in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. Judy and Doug moved their new little family to Arizona in 1967 with a new job opportunity. They were partners in several photo studio and photo lab companies where Judy managed the office and accounting. As an active member of the LDS Church she served faithfully in many Primary and Relief Society callings in the Phoenix 18th Ward and the Mesa Elmwood Ward. In addition to her husband Douglas, she is survived by her four children; Sharon Johnson, Michael Jones, Andrea Fuller and Suzette Jones; her brother Mell Boothe and sisters Sherrie Ferguson and Dianne Boyden. Her delight was in her 13 grandchildren, her yard and decorating her home with family heirlooms. Funeral services are being held today, November 16th, in Mesa, Arizona. A graveside service and interment will be held in the Provo City Cemetery at 11:00 a..m on Saturday, November 19th. Peterson, Stephen John Stephen John Peterson of Gilbert, Arizona passed away on November 9, 2005 after a long and valiant battle with cancer. Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years, Lynette Lewis Peterson and their six children: daughters, Cheryl Bennett (Jeff) and Julie Ripley (Paul); sons, David (Kelly), Brian (Kate), Jeff (Julie) and Mark (Alissa); and 16 grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Kaye Halladay of Provo, Utah and Linda Batty of Salt Lake City, Utah. Steve was born to Sherman and Lucille Peterson on January 15, 1944 and was raised in Provo, Utah. He attended public schools in Provo graduating from Provo High School in 1962. He left for six months active duty with the Utah National Guard. He graduated from BYU in 1969 with a Bachelor's Degree in Finance and began a profession of "Private Banking." He worked for First Security Bank in Salt Lake City, United Bank of Denver, the Arizona Bank in Phoenix, and through a series of mergers and acquisitions worked for Security Pacific Bank and Bank of America. In 1993 Steve made an important career decision choosing to work for Northern Trust Bank where he was employed at the time of his death. He was a long-time supporter of Boy Scouts of America serving in many positions and was presented the Silver Beaver award in 1998. Steve was a member of the Rotary Clubs of Mesa Baseline and Mesa, Arizona and served as president of the Mesa Rotary Club in 2002. Steve was a life-long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to Australia from 1963 to 1965. He treasured his testimony of the restored gospel, the Savior, and his Heavenly Father. Steve served in many church callings including bishop and a member of a stake presidency for nine years. He always felt, not withstanding his weaknesses, that he was a disciple of Christ and attempted to conduct his life in that manner. A visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2005 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the LDS Gilbert Highland Stake Center, 3580 E. Houston Ave., Gilbert, Arizona. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the LDS Highland Stake Center, with a visitation one-hour prior to the service. Interment will be at City of Mesa Cemetery. Tracy, Ann Barker Ann Barker Tracy passed away peacefully in her own home on November 14th, 2005, after a battle with cancer. She was born January 17, 1933, in Elba, Idaho, the eldest child of A. Malbourn and Gladys E. Tucker Barker. She was educated at Elba Elementary, Albion High School, and received her Associates Degree in Business from Idaho State University. Mom was sealed for time and all eternity to her high school sweetheart, C. Larry Tracy, in the Salt Lake Temple on April 26, 1956. Upon Dad's graduation from law school, he entered military service in January, 1960 and together they traveled the world. They were stationed in Germany, Virginia, California, Colorado, Okinawa, Hawaii, New Jersey and Arizona. Mom was an invaluable asset to Dad's military career. She participated in Officers' Wives Club activities, providing charitable service on military posts worldwide. Upon Dad's retirement from the military they moved to Provo, Utah, to be close to their children and extended family. They resided in Provo for 17 years and then moved to Orem, where they have resided since 2002. Mom worked at BYU Print Services for 10 years after their move to Provo and enjoyed her associations there. Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward Relief Society, Primary and Young Women's Presidents as well as in many other callings. She was a wonderful example to us of one who served with her whole heart wherever she was asked. She and Dad served a mission together to Cape Town, South Africa from January 1996 to July 1997. Mom was a wonderful wife and mother, always turning a house into a warm, beautiful home wherever we lived. She was a stay at home mom, always there when we came home from school and our other activities, and we knew she loved us. She was a loyal friend to all and was often referred to as "Sweet Ann." Mom is survived by her husband, Larry; her children: Kenneth (Laurie), Mercer Island, WA; Allen (Heather), Erie, CO; and Lisa (Ken) Gibby, Saratoga Springs, Utah and 12 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lorrayne (Olen) Ward, Boise, Idaho, presently serving an LDS Church Mission in Zimbabwe, Africa. Ginger (Wallace) James, Murray, Utah and 2 brothers, Ruel (Kay) Barker, Provo and Ray (Sara) Barker, Moscow, Idaho and many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her granddaughter, Michelle Ann Tracy. We would like to thank First Choice Home Health & Hospice for their tender care for mom, which helped to make her passing more comfortable. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, November 18th, 2005, at the Lakeview Stake Center, 400 West 1800 South, Orem. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. in the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Graveside services will be Saturday, November 19th, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. in the Almo, Idaho Cemetery, where interment will take place. Wilson, Jayne W. 1941~2005 NEPHI/Jayne Carolyn Wankier Wilson, age 64, passed away November 14, 2005 in Nephi, Utah. She was born May 2, 1941 in Gunnison, Utah to Clem Joseph and Vera Mellor Wankier. She married LaGrand Wilson July 23, 1960. He died December 29, 1989. She grew up in Levan, Utah. She attended Juab High School, Snow College and Brigham Young University. She taught elementary school in Nephi for 30 years, making a hugh difference in many lives. After retiring she had more time to indulge in her granchildren, the light of her life. Survived by her daughter, Annette (Russell) Gadd; grandchildren, Jessi (Clint). Bradee (Trisha), Knik (Alex); great grandchildren, Kelsey and Brax; sisters, Lillian (George) Fish; Dorothy (Newell) Rigby; Judy (Lee) Pitcher; mother-in-law, Pearl Wilson. Preceded in death by her husband, parents and brother, Jack Wankier. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Friday, November 18, 2005 in the Nephi 2nd Ward, 222 S. 100 E.
