She was born June 19, 1923, in Eureka, Utah, to Robert Francis and Florence Jones Gillespie. She married Charles Ray Cook, September 18, 1946, in Eureka. Betty was a graduate of Tintic High School and Holy Cross School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a Registered Nurse and Director of Nurses at Payson Hospital, in medical records at Mt. View Hospital, as the Public Health Nurse for Juab, Millard, and Sevier counties, and at Hales Care Center, Crestview Care Center, and El Rancho Care Center. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Goshen Senior Citizens. She enjoyed bowling, senior citizens, crocheting, puzzles of all kinds, and playing the organ. Her greatest joy was helping and caring for others. She is survived by her husband, Charles; children: Judy (Rand) Wightman, Eureka; George (Jan) Cook, North Salt Lake; Pat (Terry) Wilde, Goshen; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dick (Shirley) Gillespie, Holladay; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Kathryn Carlson and Dorothy Nelson Richards; and brothers, Robert and George Gillespie. The family would like to thank Dr. Bennion and Dr. LeRoy, Mt. View Hospital, Mt. View Continuing Care, and Alpine Hospice for all of their loving care. A viewing will be held at Holladay-Brown Funeral Home, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, on Tuesday, November 22, from 6-8 p.m., with a Rosary at 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Goshen City Cemetery. Published in the Daily Herald on 11/21/2005. Daniels, Fern Davis Thompson Fern Davis Thompson Daniels passed away November 19, 2005, after a short illness with cancer. She was born in Venice, Utah, November 23, 1929, a daughter of Clarence and Zilpha Davis. Fern attended school in Richfield, Utah, and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married James Clark Thompson in 1947. He preceded Fern in death, passing away November 8, 1975, while they were living in Kellogg, Idaho. In 1997, they were sealed in the Provo Temple. Fern and James had six children: Sandra Bowen (Gary), Evanston, WY; J. Brent Thompson (Rose Marie) ,Henderson, NV; David C. Thompson (Janice), Spokane, WA; Elaine Openshaw (Mike), Payson, UT; Susan Costa (Dale), Kellogg ID; Blake C. Thompson, Cameron Park, CA; two step-children, Janice Nye (David), Georgetown, CA; and Kerry Daniels (Cindy), California. They had 26 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren. Fern married Glen (Tad) Daniels in 1990, and lived in Georgetown, CA. They later moved back to Payson. Glen passed away in April of 2000. They had ten grand and great-grandchildren. Fern has two brothers: Von Davis (Carol), Price, UT; Arlen Davis (Odessa), Tucson, AZ; two sisters: Ann Braithwaite of Mt. Home, ID; and Ruth Barney (Lane) of Lewiston, ID. Fern was preceded in death by four brothers: Lex, Merdell, Thame, and Reece Davis; and two sisters, Dawna and Elma. In high school, Fern sang with a group of three others at many programs. Her highlight of singing was when her chorus was chosen out of many schools to sing at a session of the L.D.S. Conference. Fern loved to golf and bowl. She was a Primary and Sunday School teacher; and, at the time of her passing, she was a ward librarian. She loved serving as the librarian. A viewing will be held at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Tuesday, November 22, 2005, from 6-8 p.m.; and, from 9:45-10:45 a.m., Wednesday, November 23, 2005, at the Park Ward Church, 110 South 300 West in Payson. Funeral services will be held at the Park Ward Church at 11 a.m. Friends and relatives are invited to attend. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery. He passed away on November 18, 2005, at the age of 60. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Roxie Ann Davis; his son, Jesse Ted; and daughter, Candice Ann. He is also survived by his mother, Yvonne Davis-Hoover; his step- father, Joseph Roy Hoover; his step-sister, Connie Marsh; and his brother-in-law, David Reed and Pat Hall, as well as their sons and daughters whom he loved dearly, and they loved him, as their own. Ted was preceded by his father, Ned Davis. Ted worked as a material engineer for Utah Department of Transportation for over 40 years. His hobbies included hand making beautiful jewelry and knives. He also enjoyed silhouette target shooting, and drawing. He played Santa for the past ten years for Headstart and for his wife's pre-school. Ted's greatest joy was found in his family. Ted was a dutiful son, who cared for his mother. He dearly loved his wife and children. He was eagerly awaiting his son's graduation from the Utah County Police Academy; and, his daughter's wedding. The family will greatly miss the laughter he brought into their lives. Ted was always ready with a joke or story to lighten the mood. A small graveside service, under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, will be held Tuesday, November 22nd, at 11 a.m., in the Orem City Cemetery for family and close friends. Hintze, Mark Lund Mark Lund Hintze, 48, of Provo, died peacefully at home, Thursday, November 17, 2000, after a valiant battle with extended illness. He was born November 11, 1957, in Provo, Utah, the fifth child to join the family of Royal Sears and Virginia May Lund Hintze. He joined older brothers, Jerry (Janet) and Scott (Cheryl); and sisters, JoLynn (Nelson) and Emily (Rex). He attended Edgemont Elementary, Orem Jr. High, and Orem High School. He served in the Japan Fukuoka LDS Mission. After returning home, he attended Utah Technical College and earned a degree in Electronics Technology. He marred Mona Lynn Southworth, June 6, 1981, in the Manti LDS Temple. Their family was soon joined by Lucas (Danielle), Zack, Heidi, Kali, and Micah. Mark worked in the building construction industry with his brother, Scott; and, at the Missionary Training Center and BYU while attending school. After graduation, he worked at National Semiconductor in West Jordan, Signetics in Orem; and finally, at BYU Auxiliary Maintenance for 17 years, until his health would no longer permit. He loved to snow and water ski, to ride anything that went fast, especially snowmobiles and motorcycles, and to spend time at his family's cabin at Sundance. He was fascinated by anything that had to do with computers and electronics, and was always trying to learn more about the latest technology. He loved animals and was surrounded by a great variety of them throughout his life. He was a quiet and humble man, who always stood fast in his beliefs, even in the face of great opposition. He used his many talents to help those around him, and taught his children the importance of honesty, integrity, and hard work. Mark will be greatly missed by those who truly knew him and leaves behind a large and loving extended family. Funeral services, under the direction of Walker Sanderson Funeral Home of Orem, will be held Tuesday, November 22nd, at 11 a.m., in the Edgemont North Stake Center, 4300 North Canyon Road, Provo. Friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the stake center. Burial will be in the East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery. Jensen, surrounded by her family, passed away peacefully in Provo, Utah, on November 19, 2005, of complications associated with congestive heart failure. Mom was born, with her twin and best friend, Helen, on November 3, 1919, to George Scott and Nellie Hanson Wilson in Lindon, (Provo Bench), Utah. Her family later moved to Lander, WY, and returned to Provo upon the death of her father. She graduated from Provo High School. On November 21, 1941, Thelma married Clarence Nels Jensen in Lindon, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. Her eternal companion passed away in 1963. As a nurse and mother, her life and profession were dedicated to the service and care of others. She was one of the first licensed nursing home operators in Utah County as well as a charter member of the Women's Legislative Council of the State of Utah. Mom was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in the Relief Society, Primary; and, the Young Women camp programs of the church. She served for two years as a missionary in the South Carolina Mission, and also served many years as a temple worker at the Provo Temple. Mom resided in the Provo area for most of her adult life with the exception of a three-year period when her family lived in Milford, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother (Harry E. "Bud" Wilson), and twin sister (Helen Christensen). Thelma is survived by her sons: Boyd D. (Carole), Salt Lake; Clarence Lynn (Anne), Rocklin, CA; and Jerald L. (Kathlyn), Centerville; and daughter, Carolyn Thelma Shumway (Richard), Provo. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, and four great grandchildren, who loved and adored her. Her family was the joy of her life and nothing was more important to her than their happiness. Services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 11 a.m., at Berg Mortuary Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center St., Provo, Utah. Family and friends may call Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Berg Mortuary; and, one hour prior to services on Wednesday morning. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery.
