Shawn M. Bentley, 41, of Fairfax, Virginia and a Washington, D.C. attorney and lobbyist, died September 29th of cancer at Fairfax Hospital. Mr. Bentley was the loving husband of Becky Daines Bentley and a devoted and loving father to his two daughters, Kathryn and Samantha. In addition to being an accomplished and respected attorney, Mr. Bentley was a gifted guitarist, late-night DJ, and occasional comedian and wit. Mr. Bentley appreciated fine literature and was often found enjoying a good book. Mr. Bentley was born in St. George, Utah on October 31, 1963 to Marion and De Anna Bentley. Various studies in England enriched his perspective. Mr. Bentley received his bachelor's degree cum laude in English from Brigham Young University in 1987 and then a law degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 1990 where he received the Mulroy Prize for Excellence in Appellate Advocacy. Mr. Bentley worked as an associate at the Dow, Lohnes and Albertson law firm in Washington, D.C. Beginning in 1993, Mr. Bentley worked for nearly ten years in public service with Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT) as Chief Intellectual Property Counsel on the Senate Judiciary Committee contributing to important congressional matters involving the Technology, Education, and Copyright Harmonization (TEACH) Act of 2001, the Satellite Home Viewer Improvement Act, and numerous other important pieces of legislation relating to intellectual property. The "Downwinders" of southern Utah were served by his tireless efforts in their behalf. In 2002, Mr. Bentley became corporate counsel to Time Warner AOL and served as Vice President, Intellectual Property and Global Public Policy until his death. Mr. Bentley was honored in Washington in April by his colleagues and friends from Capitol Hill at an event to support the family in his battle with Cancer. MPAA CEO Dan Glickman said: "Shawn was a public servant in the greatest sense of the world. His integrity, intelligence, and decency will be missed by all who knew him. My deepest condolences go out to his family." John Schulman, Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Warner Bros. said: "Shawn was an incredibly smart, funny and much loved member of The Time Warner family. He was given all but the gift of time and will be missed." Mr. Bentley was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints his entire life. From 1982 to 1984, Mr. Bentley served a full-time mission for the Church in Brazil, South America. He also served his Church as Elders Quorum President at time of his passing, but of a lifetime of callings, Shawn treasured most his teaching of the Savior. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Becky Daines Bentley, and daughters Kathryn and Samantha Bentley of Fairfax; parents Marion and De Anna Bentley of Provo, Utah; brothers Jared, Chris and Gavin Bentley of Provo, Utah; brothers Justin and Derek Bentley of Los Angeles, California. The family would appreciate sharing a memorial service at the Provo Tabernacle Monday, October 10 at 11:00 AM (funeral and burial in Fairfax, Virginia, October 6). Bringhurst, Lola May E. Lola May E. Calhoun Bringhurst, 78, beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt returned home to her Heavenly Father, Monday, October 3, 2005, from natural causes.She was born March 31, 1927 in Virginia, Nebraska to Leonard Calvin Calhoun and Esther Manning Calhoun. She married the love of her life, Gerald Elden Bringhurst, April 1, 1950, in Kansas City, Missouri.They lived and loved life fully for 53 years, traveling with the military and living in Germany, Govenor's Island, New York, Fort Ord, California, and MacDill AFB, Florida.Everywhere they traveled Lola made friendships that remained throughout her lifetime. She was a loving mother to Lola Jean (Trudy) Harmon (deceased) and Gerald E. (Bud) Bringhurst, Jr. Lola was a woman of independent spirit, unending determination and multiple talents. She was a self-taught, accomplished artist, specializing in florals. Of all of the flowers, roses were her favorites. She and her sister, Betty Stover, owned a stamp collecting business and were avid collectors. They also delved into gemology, ran their own lapidary and traveled the United States together collecting precious gems in their raw forms. Lola and Jerry, raised Championship Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs. Lola made many friends traveling the dog show circuits and acquired extensive knowledge on several breeds, and was a member of AKC (American Kennel Club). However, the noble Ridgeback always remained her favorite until her dying day. For all who knew and loved her, her passing will leave an everlasting void. Lola is survived by her son, Gerald E. Jr. (Susan), Pleasant Grove; her brother, Dallas (Pete) Schirmer (Susan), Payson; her sisters Dorothy Bevins (Wayne), Santa Barbara, California, and Bessie DeGrange, Donnelson, Iowa, and three loving granddaughters, Kelly Sheree Harmon, San Jose, California and Bronte' Marie and Mary Michaela Bringhurst, Pleasant Grove. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews and by her faithful canine companion Kofi. Lola is preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col (Ret) Gerald Elden Bringhurst, her sister Betty Stover, and her daughter Lola Jean (Trudy) Harmon. Broadbent, Larry Jay Larry Jay Broadbent, 60 of Mapleton, passed away Sunday, October 2, 2005. He was born April 20, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Jay Sterling and Beverly Harrison Broadbent. He married Nathalie Hatfield May 31, 1968 in the Salt Lake Temple. She preceded him in death March 26, 2005. Larry graduated from Provo High School and went on to serve a LDS Mission to Austria. He attended BYU and received his doctorate in dentistry from the University of Oregon. He served in the U.S. Army in Maryland. Larry practiced dentistry in Provo for 28 years. He actively served the LDS Church on the High Council and as a faithful home teacher. He is survived by three sons: Cameron (Alissa), Chad (Cheri), and Casey (Sarah) Broadbent as well as three grandchildren. He is also survived by his parents of Provo and two brothers: David (Michelle) Broadbent of Orem and Phillip (Betty Jean) Broadbent of Highland. He was born November 3, 1940 to Arthur Earl and Jessie (Packard) Condie. Lee was reared and attended schools in Springville, Utah. He attended BYU where he received his bachelors degree and later a Ph.D. in education administrations. He also earned a masters in social work at San Diego State. Lee spent most of his career with the Nebo School District as a social worker. Much of his life was dedicated to counseling and uplifting the leaders of tomorrow. Lee served a mission for the LDS Church in Southern California where he met the mother of his eleven children. He is survived by Carol Condie and their eleven children: Stephen Condie of Orem; Jim Condie of Orem; Bobbi Condie of Springville; David Condie of Gainesville, TX; Mike Condie of Lehi; Krysten Condie of Provo; Rick Condie of Eagle Mountain; Bob Condie of Provo, Joey Condie of Orem, John Condie of Provo, Dan Condie of Spanish Fork; and 13 grandchildren. He is also survived by his immediate brothers and sisters: Packard Condie, Rulon Condie, Phyllis Condie, and Jane Jones all of Springville, Utah. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 7, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the LDS Chapel at 55 North Main in Springville. Davis, Donna Horsley Donna Horsley Davis passed away peacefully at home in Spanish Fork, Utah on October 3, 2005. Donna was born January 31, 1928 to Albert Ensign Horsley and Sylvia Mae Zufelt. She married Kenneth Jacob Davis on March 31, 1950 in Price, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple. Donna attended Carbon High School in Price, Utah and earned her associate degree at the college of Eastern Utah. Donna loved being a homemaker and also was employed as a sales clerk and an Avon sales representative. She enjoyed sewing and making clothes for children. She had a love of music and enjoyed playing the flute and the piano. She and a friend often played flute duets together. Donna is survived by her loving husband, Kenneth and children; Kathryn (Jared) Whitehead of Taylorsville, Utah, Karla (Lynn) Snyder, Salem, Utah, Don Davis, Salem, Utah, Darwin (Paula) Davis, Newark, Delaware; brother Albert Ross (Thelma) Horsley, Price, Utah; 20 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Farnsworth, Brent LeRoy "Farnsy" Brent's pain and suffering ended Sunday morning October 2, 2005 at his home, after a long valiant battle with congestive heart failure. Born March 22, 1949 to Grant LeRoy and Jackie Hall Farnsworth in Salt Lake City, Utah. Brent was the life of the party, his quick wit and great sense of humor was enjoyed by all fortunate enough to have known him, time spent with him would always make you smile. A son, a brother and a loving father, Brent lived for his family. His determination and will to live surpassed the limitations of his fragile body, the love and support of his family kept him here longer than medical science ever thought possible. Brent graduated from Provo High School and attended the U of U. He worked for the US Postal services in Provo, Utah for 27 years before his health deteriorated. He was an accomplished poet and had received recognition for his works. He also had a great love for antiquing. His greatest joys and accomplishments in life were his three daughters, Jami of Eagle Mountain, Linde (Nathan) of Martinez, CA, and Jenny (Ryan) of Eagle Mountain. His grandchildren Austin, Kiley, Cole and a grandson expected this December. He is also survived by his mother, Jackie Farnsworth of Provo, brother Scott (Andrea) Farnsworth of Lehi and sister Jan (Brandon) Egan of Orem and 3 nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Grant Farnsworth and his nephew Shawn Farnsworth. A celebration of Brent's life will be a graveside service held Friday, October 7, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East. Gallegos, Cheryl Wilson Cheryl Wilson Gallegos lost her battle with chronic pain and has finally found peace. She returned home on Wednesday, September 28, 2005. Cheryl is the wife of a loving husband, John A. Gallegos Jr. son of John A. and Anita Gallegos; mother of Zachary D. Gallegos, Lexi Haws Ross, Brittany Haws and step-daughter Roselee Gallegos; doting grandmother of Jazelle Garcia. For the past five years, Cheryl has been the constant companion of Suzy, their family dog. Cheryl's love in life was her family. Even through chronic illness, her first concern was that of her husband, children and grand-daughter. She made every effort to be a good wife, mother and grandmother. Cheryl's life began on March 24, 1962 in Provo, Utah born to Colleen Mason. Cheryl was later adopted by her step-father George Ronald Wilson. She was raised with her older sisters Carolyn and Carla Clyde and one brother, Michael, spending most of her early years with her grandparents, Alice and David Hone of Mapleton, Utah. Cheryl was loved and spoiled in their care. Cheryl received her education in Springville, Utah. She was married to Thomas J. Haws and they were later divorced. Cheryl had a quick intellect and an uncanny ability to learn new skills. She was employed as a cosmetologist, loan processor, manager of a Taylor Maid Beauty Supply store and later became disabled. Cheryl had a kind, loving heart which included concern for her immediate family, friends and neighbors. The weeks prior to her death were spent administering compassion to those in need. Cheryl loved people and a good conversation; she had an engaging laugh. Cheryl will be missed by all who loved her. There will be a private gathering for friends and family. Her short but remarkable life influenced and blessed all who knew her. Although her stay was brief, she was able to fulfill all that her Heavenly Father needed of her. She will be deeply missed, greatly loved and her life will always be honored. We love you Kylee. Leetham, Ann Ann Reynolds Leetham, beloved mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend passed away on Monday, October 3, 2005, at home peacefully in her sleep. She was born May 8, 1938, in Circleville, Utah, a daughter of John and Verda Reynolds. She married Darrell (Big Gooch) Leetham on March 29, 1957, in the Manti LDS Temple Ann was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in various callings in her home ward. She worked school lunch at Lakeridge Junior High and devoted many hours as a foster grandparent. At the time of her death she served as a volunteer at Timpanogos Hospital. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and going to the movies on Monday's with her best friend Ann. Ann is survived by five children: Rick (Chris), Hyrum, Utah; Stephen (Deanna), Pleasant Grove, Utah; Debbie (Kelly) Christensen, Payson, Utah; Tracy Jacobson, Spanish Fork, Utah; Daren (Shannon), Lindon, Utah; 18 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, Mother, Verda Reynolds, 2 brothers, J.D. (twin brother to mom) and Boyd Reynolds; 2 sisters, Shirly Turner and Shauna Bruun. She was preceded in death by her husband, father and brother. Owen, James Ivan James Ivan Owen, born March 1, 1914 in Harrisville, Utah, reunited with his beloved wife Lucy on October 4, 2005 at the age of 91. He was the youngest of eleven children of Charles Hanford and Mary Jane Taylor Owen. He graduated from Ogden High and later the University of Utah in Mechanical Engineering. His first marriage to Iva Jane Hall ended in divorce. He married Lucy May Turner Jacobs in March of 1966. This union was later solemnized in the Oakland Temple. He was a civil engineer for the government until his retirement in 1968. He was active in the LDS church all his life. After his retirement he and Lucy were called on a full-time mission at the Oakland Temple. In 1980 they moved to Orem to be closer to their daughter Doris. Survived by his daughter, Doris Dingwall; sister, Grace Salimeno; granddaughters, Cynthia Warner (Ray), Linda Calvert (Phillip); five great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. Painter, Heidi 1974~2005 Our bright light, Heidi Anne Newton Painter, age 31, passed away October 2, 2005 at her home in Nephi, Utah. She was born June 20, 1974 in Payson, Utah to Gregory Allan and Karren Elizabeth Roberts Newton. She married Aaron Painter, May 23, 1992. They were later divorced. Heidi had such a zest for life. Beauty enveloped her and her personality was classic. She brought a smile to everyone in her presence with her gift of wit. She was a wonderful mother whose life revolved around her two beautiful boys, Damon and Dawson. Each day lived was for them. She was a sister unlike any other. Her advice was comforting and her love was unending. Our bond will only grow closer to fill your absence. She was a daughter that respected and loved her parents deeply. She was also a friend in the truest sense. Heidi touched so many people's lives and we will be forever grateful for the privilege of having her while we did. She is survived by two sons, Damon and Dawson Painter; parents, Greg and Karren Newton; sisters, Wendy Taylor, Raina Newton and Jeri Ingram; grandmother, Ardath Newton. Preceded in death by her grand parents, Don Newton of Mona and Kate and Nile Roberts of American Fork. Heidi, you will ever be in our hearts and missed more than words could say. We love you. Rogers, Ruby Ruby Dean Lilly Rogers, age 74, of Orem, passed away peacefully in her sleep after a long battle with a stroke on October 3, 2005. She was born August 22, 1931 in Mabscott, West Virginia, a daughter of Tracy Russell and Lila Lilly. She married Benny B. Rogers July 7, 1952. Survivors include her 2 sons, Dwayne Rogers and David (Susan) Rogers. She is also survived by her grandchildren Dustin Sharp, Ben Rogers and Hunter Rogers. She was preceded in death by her husband Benny. Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 6th, 2005 at 3:30 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State Street, Orem. Lee (Bob) Strong, age 81, passed peacefully away Oct. 4 ; surrounded by his wife of fifty-seven years, Carolyn C. Petty, and all of his children. Born March 4, 1924, the first child of Ervin G. Strong and Vera Kenner. Bob grew up in Logan and later Ogden, before spending over forty years in Springville. He will be fondly remembered as a man of deep faith, a patriot and World War II Veteran, a sportsman, an artist, and a friend. His greatest love was for his wife, Carolyn. His greatest wish was for his children to be faithful in the gospel. His greatest gift was his ability to inspire youth to take the road less traveled, which he shared with distinction over a long career as a teacher and scoutmaster. He is survived by eight children, Lee Ann Brenchley (spouse Claron), Shawnee Davis, Scott Strong (Anna), Nancy Brook (Doug), Kathy Jensen (Calvin), Tecia Adamson (Kayle), Becky Wheeler (Dan), and Jeff Strong (Sara); forty-one grandchildren and forty-seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the Hobble Creek West Stake Center, 555 South 600 East, in Springville at 1:00 pm on Friday, Oct. 7. The service will be preceded by a viewing from 10:00 am to 12 noon. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
