Tom was born in Payson, Utah, May 8, 1934, the only son of Hart Brown and Lillian Gray Brown. He grew up in Payson and attended Payson High School. He married the love of his life, Shirlene Johnson in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dad was a local businessman in Payson, Owning Browns Billiards for 38 years. Tom was always willing to help someone out who was a little down on their luck or just needed a loan till payday, he was a friendly people person, who everyone in town knew. Dad was passionate about sports, especially basketball. He played basketball and coached a very successful team in the Central Utah League for years, never finishing a season lower than 2nd place. He sponsored teams in Payson Recreation Leagues every year and never missed a game his sons played. He was a die hard University of Utah and Boston Celtics and Utah Jazz fan, his favorite players being Larry Bird, John Stockton, and Jeff Hornicek. Dad was also very passionate about his race horses, training and racing his horses with Grandpa Hart & Shirlene, and was a thrill for him for over thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Shirlene; Children: James Hart Brown, Cheryl Turner, & Gary Joe Brown. Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at 11 a.m. in the Spanish Fork 5th Ward Chapel, 1006 East 200 South, Spanish Fork. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main, Spanish Fork on Monday evening 6 til 8 p.m. or Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the services. Rodney Evan Harris, 64, of Spanish Fork, Utah passed away peacefully at home on Oct 6, 2005 of lymphoma. He was born on Jan 14, 1941 in Richfield, UT to Ivan Reed Harris and Lora Paxton. He grew up in San Francisco, CA with his mother and one brother. Rod served an LDS mission in the East Central States. He graduated from BYU in Music Education and began his teaching career in American Fork in 1969 as the Jr. High Band Director. He married Sheila Marie Maughan of Ronan, MT in the Manti Temple on Dec 19, 1969. He loved music and his many students. He loved reading, playing church softball, learning about and defending constitutional values. Besides his wife and children, the love of his life was doing Family History. He had so much more he wanted to do. He is survived by his wife Sheila of Spanish Fork, 5 children, Heather (Kendall) Thaxton of Heber; Jeani (Mark) Tolboe of Springville: Rex Harris and Christi Harris of Spanish Fork and Marie Harris of Orem; 5 grandchildren; his brother Roger (Maryann) Harris of Santa Rosa, CA and his mother Lora Farr of Santa Rosa, CA. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Oct 11 at 11 am in the American Fork Hillcrest Stake Center, 350 W 185 N. Hollingshead, Frank Keith On the beautiful fall afternoon of October 7, 2005, Frank Keith Hollingshead - father, grandfather, brother, uncle, neighbor, friend - slipped away to meet his sweetheart, Shirley. Keith was born September 28, 1918, fifth son of Andrew Jackson and Lois Adelaide Roberts Hollingshead. He grew up in Minersville, Utah, getting into mischief with his many cousins and friends. He learned the value of hard work as a farmer, rancher, and railroad conductor. Keith married his childhood sweetheart, Shirley M. Fotheringham, April 21, 1939 in the St. George LDS Temple. They were blessed with four children - Dian, Larry J. (deceased), Julye Jex (Donald), Bartt K. (Kena Lee). During WWII, Keith was stationed on the battleship Wisconsin. He was later active in American Legion Post 81 and served as Post Commander. Keith enjoyed his membership in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many positions. Keith and Shirley moved to Spanish Fork, Utah in 1978, and Keith retired (after 40 years) from Union Pacific Railroad. Keith and Shirley (and friends) built their dream mountain cabin where they spent many wonderful summers. During winter they were "snowbirding" in Arizona. Keith is survived by his children, 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Joy (Jack) Kirk. The family wishes to extend warmest thanks to family and friends who have lovingly cared for Dad; to his wonderful neighbors throughout the years who have watched over him; and a special "thank you" to Franki, Mary, and the Affinity Hospice team for their compassionate, timely care of Dad and support to the family. Published in the Daily Herald on 10/9/2005. Lindsay, Janet Rawson Janet Rawson Lindsay passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2005 in Orem, Utah due to Alzheimer's. She was born March 24, 1928 to Edith and Edward Rawson, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married Lionel Ronald Lindsay in the Salt Lake Temple on August 7, 1951. They were married by Harold B. Lee. Janet graduated from the University of Utah in Elementary Education. She was a member of Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority. Mom was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mom served as a Relief Society president, Primary president, Visiting Teaching coordinator and in numerous stake callings. She sang in various ward choirs (where they lived). Her first and foremost calling was to be a wife and mother to her family. She loved to cook . Her children especially loved her homemade cinnamon rolls, which she was talked into making frequently. Mom made homemade bread every week. It always came out of the oven when the family was home so we could have a slice (or several) with butter and honey. Mom loved having music in the home. Three of the four children took piano lessons in their younger years. Mom was a great example of service. While serving in the Relief Society, she taught other women how to crochet and knit. She crocheted a blanket for each of her children. She loved to quilt and do crossword puzzles. Mom loved to sew. She made many shirts and other clothes for her children. Mom especially loved dogs. She had several pet dogs through out her life. Her favorite was a toy Pomeranian named Taffy. Janet was preceded in death by her husband Lionel Ronald Lindsay. Janet is survived by her four children: Gary Lindsay of Orem; Mark (Debbie) Lindsay of Orem; Scott (Laura) Lindsay or St. George; and Karen Lindsay of Provo, 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild, her brothers Murray Rawson, Orem, Reed Rawson, Lehi, and Bill Rawson, American Fork. The family wishes to thank the staff at Golden Living, A-Plus Home Care, and Mom's personal nurses who attended to her during her stay, for their tender care and compassion. Moreno, Dorothy "GG" Our sweet Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Dorothy Marie Soucy Spaulding Moreno, passed away peacefully surrounded by her Utah family on October 7th, 2005. GG (Great-Grandmother) was born October 8, 1918 in Amesbury, MA, a daughter of John Louis and Gladice Irene Soucy. For reasons unknown, she and her brother Louis and sister Mary Louise were placed in foster care. GG was raised by the Dillion family until she married Roderick Bruce Spaulding on March 22, 1936 in Billerica, MA. Rod and Dorothy were the parents of four children. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage, Rod died April 9, 1972. On December 24, 1976 GG married the second love of her life, Leonardo Carillo Moreno in Lakewood, CA. GG worked for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach, California with her husband, daughter, brother, sister-in-law and son-in-law. In 1979 GG retired and moved to Desert Hot Springs, CA. She and Leo enjoyed living on the Mission Lakes Country Club, there they made many friends and had lots of fun!! Leo passed away December 4, 2002. She enjoyed bowling, did beautiful embroidery including many of the table coverings that are used for family displays for services at the mortuary, she was very proud of this. Her family has many beautiful treasures! Whenever you visited GG you were greeted with a pork roast dinner with mashed potatoes, gravy and carrots and if you didn't have a second helping, she'd say "You didn't like it" You never left without a tin full of homemade date-filled cookies. In 2003, GG and her daughter Cindy D'Acquisto moved to Orem, UT to be with Cindy's daughter and son-in-law Teri (Kelly) Sundberg and their children Taylor, Paige and Logan. GG loved the mountains of Utah and enjoyed living at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary with her family. She enjoyed being a part of everything at the funeral home, and loved making new friends, she had a great sense of humor, always making us laugh. We love you GG and look forward to the time that we can be with you again! Survivors include her children: Bruce Spaulding of Rio Rancho, NM, Donna Kennedy of Cerritos, CA. and Cindy D'Acquisto of Orem, UT. She is also survived by her sister Mary Louise Newcomb of Port Orange, FL; grandchildren, Tammy, Roderick Jay, Monica, Tommy, and Teri; 15 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her 2 sweethearts, her daughter Beverly, grandson Bruce, brother Louis and sons-in-law Joe and Ray. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. in the Orem City Cemetery, 1520 North 800 East in Orem. He was born March 6, 1915, a son of John Lawrence and Hannah Elizabeth Staley Parry in Winter Quarters, Utah. He married ElZina Adams July 8, 1937, in the Manti LDS Temple. Dad was a Bishop, High Councilman and held many other callings in the LDS Church. He was a home teacher for 76 years. Dad and Mom served an LDS mission in Washington. He served as a temple worker in the Provo Temple for 12 years. He loved to do genealogy. Dad was a farmer for 30 years. He worked at Geneva Steel for 32 years. He loved all his kids and grandkids very much. He will be missed by all. Survivors include his children: Earl & Myrna of St. George, UT; Orvil & Barbara of West Jordan, UT; Joel K. & Laila of Lindon, UT; Irene & Bill Gammell of Mt. Pleasant, UT; Betty & Frank Young of Taylorsville, UT, a sister Elizabeth Smith of South Carolina, 29 grandchildren, 82 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife ElZina, 6 brothers, and 3 sisters. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. in the Geneva Heights Ward Chapel located at 857 W. 800 N. in Orem. Smith, Lyle Lyle Smith, 68, passed away Friday October 7, 2005 in Provo surrounded by his wife and family. He was born May 8, 1937 in Salt Lake City to George and Ina Smith. He attended schools in Provo. He married Bonnie Parker on August 3, 1956 in American Fork. They were sealed for time and all eternity on June 3, 1958 in the Salt Lake Temple. Lyle was a journeyman mechanic for over 40 years. He retired from Brigham Young University in 1998 after more than 30 years of faithful service. He enjoyed serving in many capacities for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in scouting for many years, as the Young Men's president and in the High Priest Group leadership. Lyle loved being with his family and friends both indoors and out. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. As a bus driver he took many groups to performances, competitions and on tours. He is survived by his wife; five children: Pam (Tony) Coates, Pleasant Grove, Julie (Jerry) Edwards, Orem, Launa Kay Walker, Elko, NV, Brad (Tonya) Smith, Provo, and Kevin Smith, Orem; eleven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters: Jeannie (Dick) Snyder, Hurricane, June (Bruce) Johnson, Salina, and Tora (Mark) Baldree, Buena Park, CA; brothers: Robert (Bonnie) Smith, Provo, Jack (Melba) Smith, Fountain Green, Leon (Dorothy) Smith, Spanish Fork, and Barth (Dalene) Smith, Spanish Fork. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff who cared for Lyle at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center.
