She was born September 13, 1915, in Chautauqua County, New York, the daughter of Ellis and Nellie Persons. Ethel lived most of her life in Batavia, New York. She joined her daughter, Naomi B. Sumsion, in Springville, Utah, in 2000. She worked hard all of her life and held many jobs; she worked over 25 years and enjoyed traveling. She had a great love for birds and for animals of all kinds; but, she especially loved dogs. She enjoyed being with children and young people. She was always cheerful and loving, and her family will miss her. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Naomi B. and Robert J. Sumsion, of Springville; and her grandchildren: Sue S. Davis (Sheldon), of Orem; Bill Sumsion (Lynette), of Springville; Bob Sumsion (Rochelle), of American Fork; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many special friends in Batavia, New York, including the O Briens. She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, and a sister, and her husbands: George Bussing, Ernest Hawkins, and Charles Blythe. A memorial service will be held at Wheeler Mortuary, 211 East 200 South, Springville, at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, September 27, 2005. Friends may call at the mortuary between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Davies, Yolanda Voorhees Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, long-time resident, Yolanda Davies passed from this life on the 24th of September 2005. She was born the 6th of May, 1933, to Ray Louis and Beulah (Campbell) Voorhees in Orem, Utah. She married her sweetheart of 52 years, Kirk L. Davies, on the 2nd of July, 1953, and they were later sealed for eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Yolanda owned Grandma s Gift and Knit in Provo and Grandma s Quilts and Things in St. George. She taught adult education knitting classes in Springville and Spanish Fork for several years. She loved Lake Powell and four-wheeling trips with her family and friends. She loved making quilts, knitting, and handcrafts. She looked forward every year to participating in the Christmas ornament club and the Swiss Days Craft Show. She is survived by her husband, Kirk; son, Norman (Darcy) Davies; daughters: Valorie (Darrell) Kinyon, Annette (LeRon) Young, and Lorraine (Doug) Carpenter; 20 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ray Lou (Dean) Elsberry, and Beulah (Bryan) Nielsen; and brother, Gerald (Eileen) Voorhees. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Lorus; mother and father, Ray Louis and Beulah (Campbell) Voorhees; and nephew, Kerry Nielsen. Yolanda s love touched many lives and will be greatly missed. A special thank you to those who gave her such tender care. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the LDS chapel located at 860 East 200 North, Springville. Halladay, Karyl Wynona Christiansen Karyl Wynona Christiansen Halladay, 78, of Pleasant Grove, Utah, passed away peacefully at her home with her family present, on September 23, 2005. Karyl was born July 14, 1927, in Pleasant Grove, Utah, the only child of Parley O. and Wynona Pack Christiansen. Karyl married Arthur Roy Halladay on February 18, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple. Karyl was a full-time mother and spent almost all of her life on her beloved family farm. She was a very hard worker and taught each of her children the value of work. Karyl s family was the most important part of her life, and she enjoyed cooking for them. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held numerous positions. Karyl enjoyed various types of handiwork, gardening, and sewing. Karyl is survived by her husband of 58 years; four children: Brent (Nancy) Halladay; Pleasant Grove; Diane (Les) Bennett, Roosevelt; Kaye (Ted) Davies, Spanish Fork; and Neil (Susan) Halladay, Pleasant Grove. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Bennett. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. in the Timpanogos First Ward, 193 North 400 East, Pleasant Grove. Floyd Hansen, 79, died peacefully September 21, 2005 at East Lake Care Center, Provo, with his loving wife of 60 years, Deloris, by his side. He was born November 18, 1925 to Frank and Elizabeth Hansen in Omaha, Nebraska, but when he was a small child, the family moved to Hazel Crest, Illinois. He graduated from High School after which he went into the Coast Guard for three years. He is survived by his devoted wife, Deloris, three children, Floyd Jr., Kathleen and Dan, 11 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Floyd loved to travel, boat cruises, Europe and his favorite place, Disneyland. He loved pets, especially dogs and always had one as a companion. When he lived in Heber City, he owned a successful business whose success was attributed to his pleasant personality and generous nature. He loved sports of all kinds with fishing being his favorite. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to friends at East Lake and the hospice workers for their care and concern during Floyd s illness. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer s Association. Patten, Zona Adele Zona Adele Patten, 87, was reunited with her loving husband, DeLoss Huber Patten, on Thursday, September 22, 2005, at her home in Salem, Utah, leaving behind six children. Zona was born in Miami, AZ, on October 12, 1917, to Gordon James Rutan and Genevieve Lita Wilson, the youngest daughter of three. She married DeLoss Huber Patten on June 30, 1940, in Verden, New Mexico. Their marriage was solemnized in the Mesa Arizona Temple on April 22, 1943. She was educated in New Mexico, attending public and beauty school, becoming a certified beauty operator. Upon becoming a parent, Zona s main focus was her family. In 1961, Zona and family moved to Salem, UT, becoming a fixture in the community and helping in many of Salem s activities. In her younger years, Zona participated in many rodeos as a barrel racer and loved riding her horse, Chief, and was very active in community dances and other social events. She was asked many times to share her special talent of readings for others enjoyment. Zona was also involved in 4-H. For thirteen years, Zona enjoyed her association as Lunch Room Manager at the Salem Elementary School. Zona was very involved and active in the LDS Church, serving faithfully in many callings, including Young Women s President, and in Relief Society, Primary, and Sunday School. Zona was diligent in writing to every missionary in her ward for years. She and DeLoss served with honor and love in the Columbus Ohio Mission in 1982. Survivors include three sons and three daughters: Darla Meyer, of Salem; Terry (Karen) Patten, of Payson; Robert (Cindy) Patten, of Lindon; Lonnie (Melanie) Patten, of Salem; Betty (Gordon) Hunt, of Salem; Peggy (Don) Ricker, of Nampa, ID; 32 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two sisters, and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Monday, September 26, 2005, at 11 a.m., at the Salem 9th Ward Chapel, 60 S. Main Street. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 187 S. Main Street, Spanish Fork, on Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m.; or, Monday, in the ward Relief Society room, from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Salem City Cemetery. Vincent L. Schollenberger Sr., age 80, of Pleasant Grove, died September 22, 2005, at his home. He was born September 10, 1925 in Slatington, PA, to Edward A. and Daisey Mae Anawalt Schollenberger. He married Joyce C. Hertzog on March 19, 1949 in Allentown, PA. Vincent proudly served as a Seabee in the Navy during WWII, and was stationed in the Philippines, China and California. He worked as a baker for over 40 years before retirement. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; his children, Linda (Gene) Kershner, Spanish Fork, UT; Ed (Linda) of Payson, UT; Richard Eck, Bethlehem, PA; Debra (Jim) Leger of Oklahoma City, OK; Gale (Dan) Sprengle of Miami, FL; Vincent (Lisa) of Spanish Fork; and Jann of Provo, UT; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, numerous foster children, and two sisters. A Graveside service will be held at the Springville Evergreen Cemetery for family members.
