Cotter, Mary Agnes Ramsey Mary Agnes Ramsey Cotter was born November 14, 1928 in Ajo, Arizona, the second daughter of Robert and Alice Ramsey. She slipped away in the early morning darkness on September 26, 2005. She didn t say goodbye because she didn t know she was leaving. She spent many of her childhood years, during the Great Depression, living in a scorpion infested cabin in the Kyrene district, south of Tempe, Arizona, with her sister and their widowed mother and grandmother. This experience gave her the solid strength and courage for life s other challenges. They all enjoyed the Flagstaff summer trips at those times when her mother had to take required teacher courses at the college there. Her mother eventually bought a home in Tempe where Mary enrolled in college and met her future husband, Eugene (Gene) Cotter. They were married July 18, 1947, a marriage that spanned 58 years. After their first son was born in Richmond, California, they moved to Utah where it was their good fortune to settle in Springville. Mary felt extremely blessed to have lived so long in such a beautiful place with green grass and trees, and decent, friendly and often colorful neighbors, such as George "Tex" Whitmore and many others who have been kind and generous through the years. She enjoyed brilliant sunsets, the majestic mountains, the morning glories against her bedroom window, and her quilting friends until she was victimized by rheumatoid arthritis. She is survived by her husband, son Charles, daughter Jennifer Mallon, son-in-law James Mallon, son Neil, and granddaughters Carrie and Laurie Mallon, Elizabeth Cotter, sister Elizabeth Kaime, and several nieces and nephews. The family thanks all her medical caregivers. Mary especially appreciated Dr. Kelley Gomez and his father who were so careful and gentle with other people s feet. She was always grateful to Bliss Packard who hired Gene at the Springville Post Office. She loved her yard and called it her "Sweet Piece of Earth". Goodbye to our beautiful Mary Aggie. Pastor Janet Riley will conduct a memorial service at the Springville Community Presbyterian Church, 245 S. 200 E., Springville on Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 2 p.m. Condolences may be sent at www.wheelermortuary.com Published in the Daily Herald on 9/29/2005. Diamond, Jedediah Earl June 20, 1979 - September 27, 2005 Jedediah Earl Diamond, known affectionately by his family as "Ralph," died on September 27, 2005. Born in Payson, Utah, to John Milton Diamond and Martha Johnson Elliott, Ralph passed away peacefully at his mother and step-father s home in St. Anthony, Idaho. Jed attended Provo high, I.S.U and U.I. preferring to explore himself rather than a degree. A memorial service will be held at Martha and Kenn Elliott s home in St. Anthony, Idaho, 2266 East 600 North. Jed was a mountain man, an explorer, and a wanderer. He loved the freedom he found in nature and spent much of his time working in and traveling to U.S. National Parks, including Denali, Teton, Glacier, Zion and Yellowstone. The owner of the quintessential "Idaho truck," one never knew when his 25 year-old Bronco, afflicted with four different-colored doors and mis-matched tires, would roar into the driveway and he would step out, laundry bag in hand. Jed never bowed to the limits of his body. To spite the steel rod in his back, he stood for hours in kitchens as a cook. In answer to his seizures, Jed often camped and traveled alone. He bore the indignities inflicted by chronic pain, epilepsy, and medicine with an uncommon grace and willpower, insisting on his independence and freedom. In a different century, Jed would have been a cowboy, a gold miner, a land prospector, an exploring party scout, a homesteader: the man who with the gorgeous, wavy red hair perhaps met just once around the campfire, but never forgotten by those who encountered him. Jed s path was never an easy one, as it was usually the one less taken. Instead of striving for gold, Jed looked for honesty and authenticity; rather than seeking the rewards and certificates bestowed by society, he derived strength from mountain peaks and the sound of wind in the high pines. As we move through this lifetime without our Ralph, we must learn to stop and look around at the world and its wonders: in this way we shall keep our son, our little brother, our nephew, our grandson and our friend, forever alive in our hearts and minds. Your courage and passage through this terrestrial world does not and will not go unmarked nor unremarked, Jed. In the words of Chief Seattle: "The dead are not powerless. Dead, did I say? There is no death, only a change of worlds." Jed is survived by his parents and step-parents: Kenneth and Martha Elliott of St. Anthony, Idaho and John Milton and Cynthia Diamond of Magna, Utah, and his siblings: Jennifer Diamond, John Hills Diamond, Joshua Curtis Diamond, Joel Milton Diamond, and Eliza Jayne Ohran. Madsen, 23, of Payson, Utah passed away on September 26, 2005 from injuries he sustained in an auto accident involving himself, his classmates, and an instructor from Utah State University. He will be sorely missed. Curt was born January 11, 1982 to Kenneth F. and Tamra Madsen. He was an active, smart, kind-hearted little boy, and loved the world around him. Curt had a great love for the outdoors, but a particular fondness for fishing, shooting, and trucks. Our family was never surprised, really, when Curt would call home and say he had made a new purchase. It was always a truck, truck accessory (toolbox), or a new firearm. Curt loved to collect guns and target shoot. He was not a hunter though, he didn't have the heart for that. Curt was a lover of agriculture, and found great joy in farming related activities. He raised pigs throughout his high school years, and in a meat judging competition he entered, he placed first in Utah, and third in the nation. His farming fever wasn't diminished one bit when he left for two years to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Texas. He got off the plane with a set of Texas Long Horns and probably had a gun in his suitcase. We didn't check. Beneath his tough guy exterior, was the kindest, most gentle hearted little man any of us ever knew. He'd do anything for a friend, had an uncanny ability to generate laughter among family and friends, played the piano well, had a beautiful tenor voice (when you could get him to sing), and had a deep love for his family. He left behind his father, mother, brothers, Wayne (Donna), Mark (Amy), and Keith (Margo), and two sisters Monica and Melanie. Curt has two nephews he dearly loves, Braden and Tyler, and a niece, Catherine, he never met. All who knew Curt will miss him dearly. Happy trails little buddy!
