She was born June 24, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana to George and Amanda (Franklin) Smoot. In 1964 she was married to George Kerwer and had two beautiful daughters. She found love again and married Walter Killian in 1994. Carol was a joyous spirited person. Her love of life included family, music, animals, dancing, flowers, reading and movies. She was very bright and caring, a good friend to many. Carol will be missed, and has gone to a better place full of peace and love. She is survived by her husband, Walter Killian; children, Kristina Kerwer (Rich) Hadden and Kimberly (Kerwer) Mackay; stepchildren, Eileen (Terry) Prillaman, David Killian and Ann-Marie Killian; grandchildren, Claude IV, Kyle and Kira Mackay; step-grandchildren, Jennifer and James Prillaman; mother, Amanda Smoot; and a brother Tim (Dalene) Smoot. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, 11 a.m., St. George Catholic Church, 259 W. 200 N., St. George, Utah. Young Once Again They Are a Team Harry Lester Young, age 90, of Provo, Utah, passed away December 1, 2004. He was born June 23, 1914 to Alfred L. and Chlothield Christensen Young in Salt Lake City, Utah. He married Doris Ruth Rose on April 24, 1935. She preceded him in death on December 11, 1995. Harry worked as a supervisor for Mountain Bell Telephone Co. for 38 years before retiring. He was a "Pioneer Member" at the Alpine Country Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Doris, and by a brother. He is survived by a son and a daughter, Harry Lee (Sylvia) Young of Salt Lake City; and Pamela Jean (Clark) Mitchell of Provo; and by one brother, Paul A. Young of South Jordan, Utah; 4 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Graveside services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004, at 11:00 a.m., at the Provo City Cemetery, 610 South State Street, Provo. Vivian Santos 1918 -- 2004 Richfield -- Vivian Marie Andreason Santos, 86, of Richfield, passed away December 1, 2004 in Richfield. Vivian was born January 29, 1918 in Salina, Utah to Thorvald and Ruby Gee Andreason. She married Frank A. Santos on the 8th of October 1942 in Evanston, Wyoming, the marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on March 24, 1966. He preceded her in death December 21, 1992. Vivian worked in the school lunch program with Sevier School District for 14-1/2 years. She also worked as assistant librarian at Monroe Elementary. She was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in many ward and stake callings. She is survived by children: Julie Powell of Cedar City, Scott Santos and Eugenia Lou Santos, both of Richfield; daughter-in-law, Oma Santos of Annabella; nine grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Nyals Andreason of Salina; sister, Katherine Eustacus of Long Beach, CA. She is preceded in death by her husband; son, Robert Santos; grandson, Daniel Santos; sisters, Bessie A. Blood and Bonnie A. Bumgardner. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the Neal S. Magleby & Sons Mortuary Chapel, 50 South 100 West, Richfield. Norman Ensign Gubler SANTA CLARA -- Norman Ensign Gubler, 90, surrounded by family, passed away at Dixie Regional Medical Center on November 28, 2004. Norman was born January 31, 1914 in Santa Clara, Utah to Casper Ensign and Esther Stucki Gubler. He was raised in Santa Clara and graduated from Dixie High School and attended Dixie College. Norman married LaVoun Tobler in the St. George Temple on September 11, 1935. They have seven children. Norman went into the trucking business, at age 17, with his father. In 1936 they merged with several others to form Southern Utah Produce Company. In 1941 they merged with Stucki-Wittwer Trucking to become Rocky Mountain Produce Company. Norman became vice-president. In 1947 he became president of company. In 1957, Rocky Mountain Produce joined Milne Truck Lines. Norman became vice-president of Milne Truck Lines and managed the Las Vegas terminal. In 1963, he moved his family to Los Angeles to manage the Milne terminal there. This business grew to become the top regional carrier in the western states. He retired in 1976 to Santa Clara and fulfilled his boyhood dream of becoming a cattle rancher. Norman was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions, including Bishop of the Santa Clara Ward. For 10 years, Norman and his wife enjoyed serving as ordinance workers in the St. George Temple. When he was 27, he served as Santa Clara Town Board President (mayor). During that time, the large sycamore trees were planted along the Santa Clara highway. He served in the Boy Scout program for 40 years and was awarded the Silver Beaver Award. Norman was a man of honesty and integrity. He loved and was very generous with his family and fellow men. Norman is survived by seven children; Janice (Don) Miller, Kay (Lynn) Gubler, Wendell (Linda) Gubler, LaNita Gubler, Carol (Richard) Christensen, Sherrie (Tom) Clark, Don (Mary Ann) Gubler, and his sister, Rena Leavitt. He has 35 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVoun, his parents, six sisters and three grandchildren. He will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Santa Clara Stake Center, 1706 North Desert Dawn Drive. Visitation will be Friday, December 3, 2004, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 South Bluff, and from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services at the Santa Clara Stake Center. Interment will be in the Santa Clara Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary of Cedar City, Utah. Rula Kemp Parry St. George -- Rula Kemp Parry, 94, passed away Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at her home in St. George, and has reunited with her beloved husband, Ez. She was born August 6, 1910 in Ogden, Utah to Elias Enoch and Isabelle Josephine Maudsley Kemp, a granddaughter of Frederick Foremaster. She graduated from Ogden High School and attended the Smithsonian Business School. She married Ezra Marriott Parry on January 4, 1934 in Washington, D.C., and upon returning to Utah, the marriage was solemnized in the Logan Temple. Rula and Ez lived in D.C. and in Northern Virginia for 62 years, where they raised their family. She was a devoted member of the Arlington, Virginia Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was active in its building and growth. She was a lifelong member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Rula was a gifted homemaker and delighted in making her home a warm and inviting place for her family and friends. After her children were grown, she worked as a kindergarten teacher and later as a secretary in the U.S. Department of Interior. Upon retirement, she traveled the world with Ez and served for 19 years in the Washington, D.C., Temple. She is survived by her: two daughters, Barbara Ann (Mrs. Stanford) Yates, of San Clemente, CA, and Tecia (Mrs. Marlin) Lance, of St. George; six grandchildren, Melissa (Mrs. Jeff) Schmidt, of Austin, TX, Kevin Lance (Danielle) of Paducah, KY, Marla Jean (Mrs. Paul) Alkema, of Chicago, IL, DeAnn (Mrs. Jason) Moore, of Houston, TX, Colleen (Mrs. Brad) Jensen, of Henderson, NV, and Michelle (Mrs. Derek) Thrall, of Orem, UT; and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel. There will be a viewing Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Mortuary. Lucille Whipple Stafford St. George -- Lucille Whipple Stafford, age 81, left this earthly existence on Monday, November 29, 2004 at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. She was born October 20, 1923 in Show Low, Arizona, a daughter of Willard and Josephine Merrill Whipple, Jr. Her childhood years were spent in Arizona. As a young woman, in the early 1940's, she worked at a Naval Air Station in San Diego, California. There, she met Bert Thomas Stafford. They were married August 6, 1943 in Yuma, Arizona. Bert preceded her in death on March 25, 1999. Lucille and Bert were blessed with five children: Dorothy Yates, Barbara (Mike) Murphy, George, Nedra (Arthur) Knight, and Carolyn (Dennis) Clayburn. She worked for many years at Utah Power and Light Co. Lucille loved her friends and was a good neighbor. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Lucille loved the beauty of the world around her. She raised roses and was an avid artist. She loved cooking and making special treats. Her 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren will miss her beautiful smile and hugs. Mom, we all love you so much and will miss you beyond what words can express. Surviving family include her: five children; sisters, Noma Weber, June Morgan, Flora Forgueran, and Colleen Robison; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her: parents; husband; brother, Boyce Willard; and sisters, Grace Mott and Myrna Lesher. A brief service will be held Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary. There will be a viewing one hour prior to the service at the mortuary.
