Day 1912 ~ 2004 St. George -- Sallie Day passed on to a better place Saturday, December 11. She was born January 22, 1912 in Central City, Nebraska, the daughter of Guy E. and Ruth Hudnall. Christened Grace Ascenath Hudnall, she later adopted the name Sallie, by which she was known for most of her nearly 93 years. Married in January 1933 to Walter Baird Lawson, she gave birth to one son, Robert L. Lawson. After nine years of marriage, Sallie and Baird were divorced to lead separate lives although they remained close friends throughout their lives. Sallie remarried twice; the marriages were short, the first ending with the death of Eddie Lenz, and divorce from Eddy Day. Essentially a single mother, Sallie raised her son through the turbulent years of World War II and following until 1952. She worked in a variety of jobs until retiring as a dietician assistant at the Clark County Hospital in Las Vegas in the late 1980s. Sallie was well known in the St. George community as a lady with a smile as big and warm as her heart. She baked cakes and pastries that she distributed to St. George business people and friends who had extended courtesies to her. She continued this practice until she was no longer physically able to do so. Let no one be mislead in believing Sallie was a saint; she was not. She had a zest for life and enjoyed every moment of it to the best of her ability. Traveling and shopping were her greatest joys after her grandchildren. Sallie leaves her son Bob, his wife Sally, and their four children Brian, Tracy, Kurt, and Matthew. Additionally, she has five great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson, all of whom will miss her greatly, but take solace in the knowledge that she is now free from the terrible misery and painful suffering of the last months of her life. She was a great mom and a wonderful grandmother. Memorial services will be held at Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Blvd., Wednesday, December 15, 6 p.m. A Gathering will be held half an hour prior to services, at the mortuary. Sallie's friends are urged to make donations to the Alzheimer Fund in lieu of flowers. Donna Thomas Mitchell Jackson PAROWAN -- On December 10, 2004 Mom passed on to a joyous reunion with our Heavenly Father as well as with family and friends who have preceded her. She always has loved to travel, spend time with friends, and experience new adventures. Family that remains will miss her greatly until we can be with her again. Donna was born November 26, 1928 in Park City, UT to Charles A. And Drucilla Reese Thomas. She married James Robert Mitchell in July 1948. He passed away in September 1972. In 1978 she married Wayne Jackson. They later divorced. An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served others faithfully her entire life. In 1997 she had to submit to the service of others after a debilitating stroke left her paralyzed. Her greatest joy was her family. Remarkably, she single handedly taught six children how to be good citizens, loving parents and devoted spouses. Of her many great accomplishments, won through equally great hardship, nothing satisfied her more. Donna is survived by her children: Mark (Kathy) Mitchell, Price, UT; Tom (Paula) Mitchell, Cedar City, UT; Chuck (Kathy) Mitchell, Enoch, UT; Jim (Janice) Mitchell, Enoch, UT; Rex (Lynn) Mitchell, Elko, NV; Melayn (Matt) Poladian, Pasadena, CA; a brother Reese (Audrey) Thomas, Monticello, UT; 22 grandchidren and 1 great grandchild. Preceded in death by parents; three sisters, Jean, Nan, and Dixie; and a great grandson, Zac. Funeral services will be held at the Fiddler's Canyon LDS chapel at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 16, 2004. Interment will be in the Park City Cemetery on Friday, December 17, 2004 at 1:00 pm. A viewing will be held at the mortuary in Cedar City the evening of Wednesday, December 15, 2004 from 6:00 - 7:00 pm and Thursday one hour prior to funeral services at the church. Donna served tirelessly as a health care provider throughout her career, therefore in lieu of flowers, donations to the Valley View Health Care Foundation would be appreciated.
