GEORGE -- Gary Allen Coleman, 61, our loving husband, dad, brother, grandpa, uncle, and friend, passed away November 16, 2004, of mesothelioma, a rare type of cancer, with his loving family by his side. He was born December 26, 1942, in Provo, Utah to Arthur Donald and Viola Mae Coleman. He graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City and Utah State University, where he excelled in baseball. On November 1, 1967, he married Jannine Shepard in Salt Lake City, Utah. They later divorced. He then married his high school sweetheart Sharon LaRay Florence on July 16, 1988, in Arlington, Texas. Later, they made their home near Whippany, New Jersey, where they lived for 15 years. Recently they joined the Coleman brothers in Hurricane, Utah. He is survived by his wife Sharon and children; Casey Jo Burback (Dennis), Phoenix, Arizona, Andrea Dawn Tucker (Ray) and Matthew Allen Coleman of Farmington, New Mexico, his stepchildren; Melanie LaRay Williams (Chad) of Flower Mound, Texas, and Ryan J. Taylor (Amy) of Salt Lake City, Utah, brothers; Revs. Arthur Donald Coleman, Jr. (Ann Marie) of Chicago, Illinois, Harold Dean Coleman (Karen) and Robert Jay Coleman (Carolee) of Hurricane, Utah, and seven grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother George Elmer Coleman. Gary was an avid bowler and earned his 300 ring. His kindness was felt by all who knew him. He was a special human being and will be deeply missed. Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 20, 2004, 11 a.m., at the Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 N. Main, Hurricane, Utah. A visitation will be held Saturday, November 20, from 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to services at the mortuary. Interment will be in the Hurricane City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435-673-4221. Betty McVicker Betty Marie McVicker, nee Rowley, 78, returned home on Wednesday, November 3, 2004 to greet her loved ones who have passed on before. She passed away peacefully in her sleep while hospitalized after a lingering illness. Betty was born March 23, 1926 in Hunter, Utah, to Roswell Irwin and Zina Thayne Rowley. She married Robert John McVicker on December 21, 1962 in Tokyo, Japan, where they lived for several years. She had the opportunity to live in many places such as San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles, as well as in Kamakura, Japan. But she considered living in Toquerville, Utah, where she and her husband built a geodesic dome home together, as one of the blessings in her life. She spent the last 24 years of her life there. She said, "the whole world seems more beautiful when you are living in Toquerville." She was a truly multi-talented person. She learned to play the guitar and piano later in life, was a successful contender in both singles, and doubles tennis tournaments, became an excellent skier, studied art in New York at the Institute of Modern Art, and made many paintings in oils and water colors. She is survived by her husband, Robert John McVicker; sisters, Berty Russell (Bill), Bonnie Sweat (Boyd); and a large family of nieces and nephews who loved her very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Maude Rowley, Eliza Jane Stratton, Bunny Strong, and Zina Bennight; and brothers, Roswell Irwin, Davis William, and Cecil Turner. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2004, at 11:00 a.m. in the Toquerville Chapel, Toquerville, Utah, after which she will be laid to rest in the Toquerville City Cemetery, near her parents. Betty was loved by many, and will be missed by all who knew her. LaVelma Frederick Mitton ST. GEORGE -- LaVelma Frederick Mitton passed away at Dixie Regional Hospital on November 16, 2004. LaVelma was born December 10, 1906 in Providence, Utah to John Jacob and Sarah Stauffer Frederick. She married Melvin James Nitton on March 12, 1929 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They moved to Nounan, Idaho where they loved for 17 years. After which time they built a home just north of Smithfield, Utah where she spent the next 50 years. In 2000, after some health problems, she went to live with her youngest daughter and stayed with her up to her time of death. LaVelma was preceded in death by her husband, six sisters and one brother. She is survived by her four children, Margene (Arch) Thurston, Melvin F. (Judy) Joyce Rainey, Reed I. (Ruthann), 9 grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren, and lots of nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held at the Smithfield 12th Ward Friday November 19, 2004 7:00pm - 8:00 pm. Services are at 11:00 am with viewing beginning at 10:00am at the 12th ward 179 North 100 East, Smithfield, Utah, under the direction of Heideman Mortuary. Lamelia Mae Rogers Wero SHIVWITS INDIAN RESERVATION -- Lamelia Mae Rogers Wero, 65 passed away peacefully at home November 16, 2004, surrounded by her family who she dearly loved. Lamelia was born March 12, 1939 in St. George, Utah to Archie and Elizabeth Carmel Rogers. She marred Norman T. Wero in Ft. Dueschne, Utah in 1958. They had 5 children. Lamelia was raised on the Shivwits Indian Reservation. She was schooled at Woodward School. Lamelia was a pre-school teacher, and taught others about her culture and traditional values. She loved to attend and participate in handgame and pow-wows. In her spare time she would bead regalia for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren were everything to her. Lamelia is survived by her children Elizabeth (Robert) Pete, Rhoda (Devere) Manning, Ben Sr. (Brittanni) Wero, Sue (Darrell) Drye and Norma Wero. She is preceded in death ny her brothers Art Rogers, Weymer Rogers, and Sister, Lamina Rogers. An all-night traditional sing will be held at Shivwits Community Building on Thursday November 18, 2004 at 6:00pm. Friends and family welcome to attend. Funeral services will be held at the Ivins Stake center Friday November 19, 2004 at 10:00am, Viewing at 9:00am. Services are under the direction of Heideman Mortuary.
