He was born August 7, 1906 in West Berlin, Vermont to Idah Jane Celley and Arthur Ernest Bryant. His early years were spent in Northfield, Vermont where he worked at his father's creamery. Burton moved to Worchester, Massachusetts as a young man where he learned the plumbing trade. During the Depression, he joined the Navy. While stationed in California, he met and married Mary Ellen O'Connor on March 23, 1934. They were married 56 years. Burton retired from the Navy when the family lived in San Diego County. During that time, Burton operated a chicken ranch. Upon retiring again, he and Mary moved to Paragonah, Utah to enjoy the hunting and fishing. He rebuilt an old brick house and continued to stay busy building cabinets and working on houses around town. Never one to sit around, Burton became the oldest licensed plumber in the State of Utah. Preceded in death by his wife, Burton took on all the general household activities. He became a baker, cooking his own breads, cookies and rolls. Burton Bryant is survived by two children, five grand children, seven great grand children and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Paragonah Town Hall at 10:00 am. A Viewing will be held at 9:00 am until time of services at the town hall. Interment will be in the Paragonah cemetery under the direction of the Southern Utah Mortuary. Alice Marie Gillies BEAVER -- Alice Marie Gillies, 80, passed away at her home on November 25, 2004. She was born on September 27, 1924 in Beaver, Utah to Ralph Byron & Marrietta Nowers Bohn. She married Acle Thompson Gillies June 17, 1952 in the St. George LDS Temple in St George, Utah. She lived her entire life in Beaver, Utah, and graduated from Beaver High School. She was an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She worked for the the Telephone Company as an operator and the Utah State Extension Service. She was an active member of the LDS Church and serviced as a Primary President for 10 years in Beaver Third Ward. She is survived by her husband, Acle Thompson Gillies of Beaver. Two children, Blake B. Gillies of Beaver and Chad A. (Jelene) of Albuquerque, New Mexico. She has 10 grandchildren and one great grandchild. She has three brothers James Bohn of Beaver, Devon (Karen) Bohn of Clearfield and Clark (Ora) Bohn of Cedar City. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Donald Bohn and a granddaughter, Jacklyn Jay Gillies. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2004 at the Beaver LDS First Ward Chapel. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday evening from 7PM to 9PM at the Southern Utah Mortuary in Beaver and on Tuesday from 9:30AM to 10:30AM at the Church on first west and center street. Interment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Martha Hill Martha Louise Reid Hill age 75 passed away on November 26, 2004 in Cedar City, Utah. She was born on August 19, 1929 in Mattoon, Illinois to Zolous Byrd Reid and Mary Dorothy Sweet Reid. She married William H. Hill on June 6, 1969 in Decatur Illinois. Martha graduated from Mattoon High School in June, 1947 with high honors. Martha enlisted in the U.S. air Force in March, 1950 and served till 1954 achieving the grade of M/Sargent. In 1957 she graduated from Eastern Illinois University with very high honors achieving a BS in Education and Social Studies. She taught first grade in Mattoon Public Schools from 1957 to 1958. In 1962 Martha received a M.A. in Psychology and Education from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. While in Montreal she taught primary grades for the Montreal Protestant School Board from 1959-1964. In 1964 Martha returned to the United States and began teaching at E.A. Gasman School in Decatur, Illinois. She earned advanced degrees at both Millikin University, and the University of llIinois. Martha was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award in 1973. Martha retired from public school teaching in 1981 and moved to Cedar City, Utah in 1985. She served the Community Presbyterian Church as ruling elder from 1988-1992. She moderated the Christian Education Committee and taught both children and adult Church School. From 1989-1992 she served as Commissioner to Presbytery of Utah. She also served as Commissioner to P.C. (U.S.A.) General Assembly when it met in Salt Lake City in June, 1990, and served on the Presbytery of Utah Peacemaking Task Force from 1989-1995. She was elected as Enabler by Presbyterian Women in 1984-1989. She was later elected Vice-Moderator of P.W. in 1990-1995, and served as Moderator of P.W. in Presbytery of Utah, from 1995 to 2000. Martha is survived by her husband William H. Hill, children Elizabeth Koch (Frank Koch) of The Woodlands, TX; Harlan Hill (Carolyn Hill) of Paragould, AR; three grandchildren, and her sisters Ginny Lear (James) of Springfield IL, and Jo Bariether of Matoon IL. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday November 30, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church (2279 N. Wedgewood Lane, Cedar City, Utah 84720). In lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Christian Education Fund at the Community Presbyterian Church. Geunter (Gus) Stoss Our beloved Father, Brother, Grandfather and Friend passed from this life Nov. 24, 2004 at 10:45 p.m. Gus was born Feb. 13, 1928 in Weimar, Germany. He resided in Ivins, UT for the past 8 years. Gus loved camping, fishing and just visiting with his many friends. He will be sorely missed. Gus is preceded in death by his beloved wife: Gisela and granddaughter: Michelle. He is survived by his twin brother: Otto (Margaret) Stross, his 5 children: Marion (Ken) Conover, Dagmar Stoss (Jase), Leila (Morgan) Pace, Roger Stoss (Lucille), Raymond Stoss (Karla), his 5 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Richard Bruce Weaver Richard Bruce Weaver, 71, passed away on November 24, 2004 in St. George, Utah. He was born January 6, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York to Kenneth Conray Weaver and Alice Rushford Harvey. He married Beatrice Kleinman on July 6, 1963 in the St. George Temple. They are the parents of four sons. Richard spent the first 11 years of his life in Roselle Park, New Jersey where he attended elementary school. He then moved to Utah and attended schools in Ogden and Salt Lake, graduating from BY High School in Provo, Utah in 1951. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy for four years where he was trained as a Sonarman. Upon his release from the Navy, he was called as a Latter-day Saint missionary to the California mission for two years. After completing his mission, he graduated in 1963 from Utah State University with a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering. His entire engineering career was spent with IBM in Rochester, Minnesota; San Jose, California; and Tucson, Arizona. Richard was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in numerous positions, including Bishop. Retirement to St. George in 1998 provided the opportunity for Richard to fulfill his goal of service to the community and church. He also had the privilege of becoming a member of the Southern Utah Heritage Choir, which he considered not only an enjoyable experience but an inspirational one as well. He loved life and accepted the challenge of many learning experiences afforded us here on earth. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Survivors include his wife, Beatrice, children Bruce (Shalane) and David (Bronna) of Tucson, Arizona, Steven (Marielle) of Carlton, Oregon, and John (Becky) of Morgan Hill, California, and 10 grandchildren. Brothers Robert (Wilma) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Paul (Bonnie) St. George, Utah, Stan (Janet) of Provo, Utah, and brother-in-law Leland (Ada Jane) Kleinman of St. George, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, and in-laws. Thanks to Applegate Home Health and Hospice and Red Cliffs Regional for their loving care. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 30, 2004, 11 a.m. at the Mulberry Chapel, 3371 Mulberry Dr., St. George, Utah. Visitations will be held Monday, November 29, 2004, 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Heideman Mortuary., 170 S. Mall Dr., St. George, Utah and Tuesday, November 30, 2004, 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be at the Toquerville Cemetery. Funeral services under the direction of Heideman Mortuary.
