Dorothy was born May 7, 1927 in Raleigh, North Carolina to Guy Frank and Garnet Steed Askea.She married Vernon Bowen on June 4, 1948 in Farmington, Utah; their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple in 1985. She was a member of the Highland LDS Ward.She retired from HAFB in 1967. Dorothy loved to knit, cross-stitch and tapestry, but her favorite time was spent with her family and grandchildren. Surviving are her husband Vernon Bowen; children Karen (Bruce) Densley, Virgin, UT; Gary (Elvida) Bowen, Clearfield, UT; Marcia (Dennis) Wilson, Plain City, UT; son-in-law, David Beddes, Fruit Heights, UT; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.Also surviving are two sisters, Margie Tornow, Ogden, UT; and Ardene (Fred) Sessions, Cle Elum, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather Harry Andersen who raised her; and a daughter Sandra Beddes. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Myers Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd. Friends may call on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Originally published April 9, 2005 Gwen LaFern Williams Davis KANARRAVILLE - Gwen LaFern Williams Davis, 89, passed away peacefully in West Jordan, Utah at the home of her daughter, April 6, 2005. She was born January 28, 1916, in Kanarraville, Utah to Joseph S. and Mary Matilda Pollock Williams. She grew up in Kanarraville and lived her life there where she had many friends. She married Delile Davis on September 27, 1939 in Parowan, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple on October 4, 1967. Gwen was an active member of the LDS church and served in numerous callings in the YWMIA, Primary, and Relief Society. She served as the Visiting Teaching Coordinator for more than 20 years. She loved to make quilts and will be remembered for the beautiful quilts she made for family and friends. She was a member of Kanarraville's all female volunteer fire department during the 1960s. She was employed at Valley View Medical Center for 10 years and retired in 1981. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Hannah (Michael) Galbraith of Anchorage, Alaska; and Shelley Renee (Edmond) Currey of West Jordan, Utah, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, three sisters, her husband Delile and one son Val Williams Davis. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 11, 2005, at 11:00 am at the Kanarraville Ward Chapel. Originally published April 9, 2005 Cleo Utley LeFevre MONROE - Our angel, Cleo Utley LeFevre, 69, was released from her lifetime of services and called home on April 8, 2005. Cleo was born March 8, 1936, in Delta, Utah, to Louisa Twitchell and Deleal Jay Utley. Cleo met her eternal companion Walter Dean "Walt" LeFevre while in the seventh grade. They were married June 29, 1953, and sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, December 4, 1970. Cleo loved gardening. She enjoyed canning, quilting and sewing. She loved going with Walt on the wagon trains. She loved people. She loved her family and friends. Cleo was a faithful servant of our Heavenly Father. She spent her entire adult life in teaching and leadership positions in the church. She loved the gospel and lived her life to pattern the Savior serving others. Her life was an example to all who knew her. Cleo is survived by her dear Walt and their children, Walter Dean Jr. (Joyce) LeFevre, Cedar City; Margie Aaron, Cedar City; Janet (Brian) Gale, South Jordan; Christy (Brett) Jensen, St. George; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Margo Christiansen; brothers: LaVoy Utley, Ronald Utley, Jimmy Utley, Kent Utley and many loved ones. Burt, 83, passed away April 6, 2005 at the Richfield Rehabilitation & Care Center.He was born May 18, 1921 in Beaver, Utah to James Herman & LoReta Skougard Burt.He was our beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.He was a very special part of the structure and love in our family. He married Marian Terry on November 3, 1955 in Pioche, Nevada.They made their home here in Beaver.They had five children, Kaye, Jan, Jon, Jerri and Richard.He loved the mountains.He spent many years working for the Forest Service and for Utah Power and Light.He loved the jobs and the chance to be on the mountain and had many stories to tell.He also loved to take his family hunting, fishing and picnicking.Sunday afternoons were almost always spent in the mountains looking for deer. He also had hobbies that allowed him to further enjoy the great outdoors.He spent many a day at the golf course with his wife and children and later his grandchildren.After he retired he and his wife traveled to numerous places to golf tournaments with family and friends.He couldn't wait to go for his coffee and visit with all of his friends.People knew him far and wide.He was loved and respected by many and he treasured all those he knew. He is survived by his Children, Kaye M. Quinton of Richfield, Jan Rodriguez of Beaver, Jon (Linda) Burt of Venice and Jerri L. Hare of Beaver. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Sister Betty Bonner of Minersville. Originally published April 9, 2005 (An Elect Lady) MINERSVILLE - Nellie Duke Hollingshead, age 84, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2005 at Beaver Valley Hospital in Beaver, Utah. She was born on August 22, 1920 in Heber City, Utah to Lawrence Brigham and Sarah Catherine Hicken Duke. She married her sweetheart Marshall Hollingshead on June 20, 1944 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were happily married for 61 years. Nellie was raised in Heber City, Utah. She graduated from Wasatch High School in 1938. Nellie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities. She served as the Relief Society President, was a member of the Beaver Stake Young Women's Presidency and many other callings. One of her most enjoyable callings was serving as a missionary along side her husband in Hawaii. Nellie was very active in her community. She was a member of the Minersville Literary Club, American Legion Auxiliary, and the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Nellie worked as telephone switchboard operator in Heber City and Los Angeles. She worked as the Clerk of Minersville Town for 11 years. Nellie received the "Modern Day Pioneer" award from Beaver County Fair in 1997. She and her husband, Marshall were honored as the Grand Marshalls for the Minersville 4th of July and the Beaver County Fair. Nellie's favorite pastime was being with her family. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. She had the special ability of making everyone feel loved and welcomed. Nellie was a wonderful cook. Many people were able to enjoy her cooking because of her generous and compassionate spirit. Nellie was a beautiful seamstress and hundreds of babies have enjoyed the lovely quilts she designed. She always had a smile on her face and love in her heart. Nellie was loved and adored by all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all. She is survived by her husband, children, Kenneth (Debbie) Hollingshead of Minersville, Marsha (late Clyde) Harding of Cedar City, Neal (JoDene) Hollingshead of Milford, Madelyn (Doug) Nielson of Laie, Hawaii, Duke (Jill) Hollingshead of Minersville, Doris (Boyd) Hall of Cedar City, Chad (Valerie) Hollingshead of Minersville, Katie Pasten of Beaver, Janette (Joe) Hiskey of Fremont, and Tammy (David) Fairhurst of Minersville, 51 grandchildren, 39 great grandchildren, and 8 more expected this year.
