She was born April 27, 1917, in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Bert Raymond and Diantha Emma Closs Forry. She married Charles Gene Baldwin on November 15, 1942, in Reno, Nevada. He died July 17, 1986, and was buried in Beaver, Utah. She then married Bacle Don Taylor on February 9, 1990. From the age of six, Verna was raised in Petaluma, California. After high school, she got a job with the Nulaid Poultry Assoc., casing eggs to save money for beauty college. She went to beauty college in San Francisco at the age of 18. When the money ran out, she worked for a family for room and board while continuing her college training. She loved good music and dancing. She went to many dances in the big hotels where the big bands were always playing. While attending these dances, she met Gene Baldwin. After a short courtship they were married. They lived in San Francisco, where she continued to work and Gene worked in the shipyards during the war. On July 15, 1944, their first child was born, Gary Eugene Baldwin. On September 27, 1947, their second child was born, Wayne Ross Baldwin. Their third child was born July 17, 1953, Gaylene Patricia Baldwin. At this time they were living in Petaluma, California. While in Petaluma, she was a social reporter for the local newspaper. In 1972, they retired and moved to St. George, Utah. They enjoyed bowling and golf. Gene worked selling cars and she worked in a gift shop. After five years they moved to Lakeport, California to be closer to their children, but soon they desired to be back in a drier climate so they moved back to St. George. She worked with Gene in the St. George LDS Temple until Gene's health started to fail. She continued to work in the temple for some time after. Gene died soon after that. She married Bacle Don Taylor in 1990. They were friends in their ward before their spouses died. After they were married they were called to serve in the Australia Perth Mission. After they were home for about a year they were called to serve in Albania. They worked as ordinance workers in the St. George LDS Temple. They attended 57 temples together. She is survived by her husband Don, her children; Gary E. Baldwin, Wayne Ross Baldwin, and Gaylene Patricia Montgomery, 7 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 10 a.m., St. George LDS 3rd Ward Chapel, 200 West 500 North. A visitation will be held Friday, April 15, from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd., and Saturday, April 16, from 99:45 a.m. prior to services at the chapel. Borup, 90, died April 12, 2005, in St. George, Utah. He was born June 11, 1914, in Manard, Idaho, to Peter Phillip and Myrtle Stewart Borup. He married Gladys Pauline Crolley on June 14, 1941 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She passed away on April 5, 1977. He married Ila Mae Cumming on January 21, 1978 in St. George, Utah. He was raised in Idaho and graduated from Idaho State University. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. He settled in the Salt Lake Valley and worked for the LDS Church until his retirement. He served a total of eight missions for the Church. He is survived by his wife, Ila Mae, children; Kent (Cheryl) Borup, Cheryl (Mike) McLelland, Don (Jacque) Marchant, Charles (Beverly) Cumming, Judi Cumming, Donald (VaNae) Cumming and his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2005, at 1 p.m., at the St. George LDS 19th Ward Chapel, 550 E. 700 S., St. George, Utah. Originally published April 14, 2005 Glenna Rae Davenport HURRICANE - Glenna Rae Lawrence Davenport, age 60, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005, at Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George, Utah. She was born February 3, 1945, in Cedar City, Utah, a daughter of David Lawrence and Veannetta Griffiths Harris. She married Donald Wallace and they later divorced. She married Shannon Dean Davenport and they later divorced. Glenna graduated from Dixie High School and attended Dixie Jr. College in St. George. She continued her education at CSU, studying to become a nurse. She worked in health care as a Nurse's Assistant. She taught her grandchildren how to provide emergency assistance and first aid. Glenna had many hobbies, to include crocheting, knitting, and keeping a beautiful flower garden. She was a real people person and the "life of the party." She dearly loved her grandchildren and the time they spent together. Surviving family include her: mother, Veannetta Harris, of Hurricane, UT; sons, Leroy Shannon (Tina) Davenport, of Parowan, UT, and David Lee (Deana) Davenport, of Hurricane, UT; daughter, Sonne Marie (Scott Allen Ouellette) Gollaher, of Hurricane, UT; and five grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, David. Originally published April 14, 2005 Irene Exner Everett ST. GEORGE - Irene Exner Everett, age 96, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2005 at Kolob Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 28, 1908 in GŚrlitz, Germany to Anna Martha Koerper and Paul Hermann Exner. She was married to Edward Ellis Everett on August 22, 1933 in GŚrlitz, Germany and a few months later they were sealed in the St. George Temple. After moving to St. George in 1933, Irene taught hundred's of children in the community violin until the age of 95, at which time her health no longer permitted her to continue. She loved teaching children. She was secretary to Newel Frei at the Woodward Junior High School for many years, where she was surrounded by the students whom she dearly loved. She also taught German at Dixie Junior College. She was one of the founding members of the Southwest Symphony where she served as concert mistress for many years. She also enjoyed playing in the pit orchestra for the many Dixie College musicals. She was a member of the Alice Louise Reynolds Book Review Club where she was honored as Orchid Lady of the year. She, along with her husband, were called to serve in the original name extraction program where they served for 10 years, and also served faithfully as temple workers. Ellis and Irene's children and grandchildren were the recipients of many wonderful trips together to Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and all of the United States, which kept our families close to one another. Irene's beautiful socks, caps, quilts, afghans and stitcheries adorn our homes. Last year she knit 20 caps to be sent to Chili when Elder Holland requested supplies for those people. Her hands were never idle. Irene and Ellis were the proud parents of four sons, Glen (Merial), Riverside, CA who preceded her in death; Edward (Ann), St. George; Ronald (June), Aurora, IL; and Stanley (Annette), St. George; 35 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. We would like to thank the Kolob staff, especially Betty, Kerri and Christy, for their loving and tender care. Hansen IVINS - Our loving husband, father, grandpa and brother, Clinton M. Hansen, returned to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, April 12, 2005, after a valiant battle with brain cancer. He passed peacefully at his home in Ivins, surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born July 13, 1934, in Preston, Idaho, a son of Peter McKinley and Lyla Leuann Lyon Hansen. Clint graduated from Firth High School, and married Pauline Merritt in 1955. They later divorced. In 1982, he married his eternal companion, Diane Low, in Roy, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the St. George Temple on January 17, 2005. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Hill Air Force Base until he retired in 1993. He also retired as a Master Sargent from the U.S. Air Force Reserves after 25 years of service. Clint was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time with his wife and family on camping adventures. He loved woodworking, and has created many beautiful items that will be cherished and admired for years to come. Clint was a wonderful, caring man who touched the lives of all who had the splendid opportunity to meet him. Surviving family include his: wife, Diane; children, Connie Fausett, of Syracuse, UT, Debra Self, of Hooper, UT, Sue Herring, of Clearfield, UT, and Janice Rigby, of Syracuse, UT; stepdaughters, Wendy (Kevin) Smith, of Big Piney, WY, and Stacy (Duane) Webb, of Fullerton, CA; sisters, Sylvia (George) Jemmett, of Blackfoot, ID, Nora (Glen) Tolman, of Houston, TX, Elda Rae Bankhead, of Blackfoot, ID, and Iva Pearl Hankins, of Houston, TX; and brother, Enoch (Linda) Hansen, of Boise, ID. A proud grandfather, Clint is also survived by 13 loving grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers, Kenneth and Max. Originally published April 14, 2005 James Albert Milliman NEW HARMONY - James Albert Milliman, age 71, died April 12, 2005 in Cedar City, Utah. He was born November 20, 1933 in Skaneateles, New York to Albert and Catherine Patterson Milliman. He married Anna Giavani on April 23, 1955 at the Sacred Heart Church in Milford, Massachusetts. James loved participating in football, baseball, hockey, boxing and basketball. He also enjoyed hiking, camping and traveling. He worked as a commercial truck driver for Trans Con Lines and later for Bugle Boy. He served our country with the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. James will be remembered as a very loving father and grandfather who was always there when he was needed. He is survived by his wife, Anna Milliman of New Harmony; two children, Maureen (Naveen) Prasad of Lancaster, California and Deborah (Richard) Champion of Quesnel, British Columbia, Canada; five grandchildren, Benjamin Bustos of New Harmony, Damian Bustos of Fillmore, California, Kimberly Milliman of New Harmony, James Prasad and Adrian Prasad both of Lancaster, California; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Joyce) Milliman of Chicago, Illinois; five sisters, Betty, Jean and Mary all of Rhode Island, Joyce (Norman) Roberts of Rhode Island and Nancy (Enzo) Rodotori of Massachusetts. Reed, age 88, of St. George, Utah, died April 11, 2005 in Layton, Utah at the home of his son after a short illness. He was born July 1, 1916 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Parley and Lydia Petersen Reed. He joined the Army Medical Corps during World War II, serving in Australia and New Guinea. On 10 July 1946 he married Betsy (Betty) Miller of Hyrum, Utah, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He practiced optometry in Napa and Benicia, California until his retirement in 1981, when he moved to St. George, Utah. He was a member of the Napa Rotary Club and the California Optometric Association. Max was an active member of the L.D.S. church throughout his life, serving as bishop, high councilman, missionary, and temple worker. He was an avid golfer, especially in his retirement. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty, brother Frank Reed, sister Shirley Reed Buttars, and his parents. He is survived by sons: Vernon (Caralee) Reed, Darrell (Rosalba) Reed; five grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren. E-mail condolences to the family at llm@lindquistmortuary.com Originally published April 14, 2005 Pearl White Thompson BEAVER - Pearl White Thompson, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away April 9, 2005 in Beaver, Utah due to causes incident to age after an eventful 96 years of life. She was born Thanksgiving day, November 26, 1908 in Beaver to Samuel Orson and Elizabeth Ellen Gudgeon White. She married Warren Thompson June 14, 1927 in Beaver and in 1928 they were sealed in the St George LDS Temple. They spent 69 years together before he passed away in 1996 at the age of 94. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she held many positions throughout her life. She worked in the YWMIA for 40 years. She especially enjoyed taking groups of girls to the "Girl's Home" in the Beaver Mountains. She served as a chaperon for many band trips, seminary trips, Youth Power and 4-H groups. Pearl was an active member of the Dorothy Williams Camp of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers being an actual daughter of a pioneer. Her father was born in Nauvoo, Illinois in 1844 and came across the plains in a covered wagon. She was a member of the BPW club and was named " BPW Women of the Year" in 1975. Pearl was an artist, a poet, and a writer. She had her own column in the Beaver Press and was also a correspondent for the Deseret News for several years. She loved music, she played a French horn, violin, mandolin, piano accordion, and the piano and organ. She joined the ward choir as a teenager and was a member for over 70 years. One of the highlights of her life was being able to sing in General Conference with the Singing Mothers in 1969. Pearl was an expert seamstress and sewed for many people in Beaver. All she needed was your measurements and a picture of what you wanted and you had a new dress in a week. If you had a pattern, it was a bonus. Pearl is survived by her daughter Helen (Merrill) Lee of Beaver and a son George Reed (Claudia) Thompson of Vaughn, Montana. Nine grandchildren 29 great grandchildren and 10 great, great grandchildren. Proceeded in death by her husband Warren, a son, Joe W., one great grandchild, three sisters, one brother & 11 half brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2005 at 11:00AM at the Beaver LDS 3rd Ward Chapel. Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday at the church from 9:00AM to 10:30AM.
