Betty spent her early years in Casper, WY along with her two sisters, Mary Alice and June and her brother Charles. On December 15, 1942, Betty Married Gaylord B. Whitney in the St. George LDS Temple. Betty and Gaylord established their lives in Cedar City, UT where they raised their only son Gary Charles Whitney. In 1975, the couple moved to St. George where they spent the rest of their lives. Gaylord passed away in December of 1999, Betty passed away on April 27,2005. Betty was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her calling for many years was serving in the church extraction program. Betty worked for and retired from Mountain Bell Phone Company. Betty loved her daily walks and even into her 80's would walk up to two to four miles daily. Betty is survived by her son Gary (Glenda) Whitney of Salt Lake City, her five grandchildren; Dane (Tara) Whitney of Las Vegas, Jodi (Gavin) Young of Cleveland, OH, Mindi (Dan) Wright of Las Vegas, and Christopher and Nathan Whitney of Salt Lake City. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and her sister June Dodds of Casper, WY and Mary Alice (Don) Gibbs of Tucson, AZ. The family is grateful for friends and staff at the Meadows Retirement Center and for the loving care provided by Applegate Hospice and Comfort Cottage. A viewing will be held on Sunday, May 1st from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Heideman Mortuary located at 170 South Mall Dr., St. George. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, May 2, preceded by a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 am at the LDS chapel located at 550 E. 700 S., St. George.
