Originally published August 3, 2005 Blake Bowman CEDAR CITY - Our sweet, loving Blake left this earth on July 31, 2005 to find solace in the arms of a loving Heavenly Father. He lost the struggle to overcome a major depressive disorder with which he had been troubled in his life. Blake was born to Rhead and Alexandra Bowman on October 7, 1975 in St. George, Utah. He attended South Elementary, Cedar Middle School, and graduated from Cedar High School in 1994. He served as class president his senior year. He was loyal to his friends and compassionate to the less fortunate. He was an excellent athlete and an outstanding soccer player. He loved to play tennis and was on Cedar High School's tennis team, playing many stirring matches during the season and at state. He and his brother, Marc, were a joy to watch as they played each other. He loved to attend school dances and the mothers of his dates were free from worry when their daughters left on his arm - Blake was a true gentleman. He attended college in Salt Lake City and at SUU and was close to a degree in Economics and German. Blake served in the Netherlands Mission for two years where he excelled at the Dutch language. His mission president remarked at the time that Blake had the greatest command of Dutch and Flemish of any of the missionaries who had ever served under him. He made special friends among the people he taught and was able to assist other missionaries in learning the language. Blake married Alexandra Pingree in the Salt Lake Temple on September 29, 2001 to the delight of all who knew them. That day was their perfect day. They will forever be soul mates. Blake was Alli's treasure and will always be her "Blakey." He was her whole world. He will be sorely missed by his wife Alli, the families of Blake and Alli, sister Andria (Travis) Williams, and brother Marc. He was adored by his nieces Lindsey and Brooke and nephew Cameron. Blake had an even temperament, a friendly and caring attitude, and non-judgmental ways which endeared him to family and friends and all who came to know him. He was very sensitive to others and loved animals and children. He had a poetic imagination and as a child he wrote several short poems for his dad's birthday. One of these seems particularly appropriate at this time: TIME Always moving But at the same time standing still Wishing you could turn back Or move forward its' hand. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 5 at 12:00 noon in the Cedar 17th Ward Chapel located at 256 South 900 West, Cedar City, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday morning at 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary located at 190 North 300 West in Cedar City. Interment will be in the Cedar City Cemetery. Online condolences can be sent to our website at www.sumfamily.com.
