Maike was born March 5, 1943, in Hamburg, Germany, where she was raised. Maike served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the North Scottish Mission from 1964-1966. She attended Brigham Young University where she met her beloved Henry in the fall of 1973. They married on April 12, 1974 and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity. In June of 1975, they moved to Hawaii where Henry finished his teaching career at Brigham Young University-Hawaii. It was in Hawaii that Maike became a very loving and nurturing mother to three children, Brenda, Leslie, and Tracy. Maike graduated with a bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a master's degree from Southern Utah University. She taught for 12 years at Enterprise High School. She was known for her sense of humor and caring personality. Maike was preceded in death by her husband Henry, in 2003. She sacrificed willingly and endlessly for her family. She was a constant example of patience, love, charity, endurance and never ending faith. There are not words to express the depth of our sorrow over Mom's passing. Yet through her beautiful example and eloquent teachings of the Savior, we look forward with faith to the day of once again being reunited with her, as a family forever. She is survived by her children, Brenda Nicholes, St. George, Utah; Leslie Mellinger (David), Layton, Utah; and Tracy Nicholes, Salt Lake City, Utah; and grandson, McKay Mellinger. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 9, 2005 at the St. George East Stake Center, 449 South 300 East, St. George, Utah. Friends may call Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the Stake Center prior to services. Interment will be at 5:30 p.m. at the East Lawn Memorial Services in Provo, Utah.
