Leora was born in Ames, Story, IA on May 16, 1928 to Veva Mae Smith and Earl Cornelius Johnson. She was the second of three surviving daughters. Her older sister, Bernice Manfredini is living with her husband, Dante, in W. Des Moines, IA. Her younger sister, Darlene, preceded her in death. Leora and her husband, Elroy, moved from Susanville, CA. To St. George in December, 2001. They lived with their daughter, Carol and granddaughter, Kalisi. Elroy preceded Leora in death in March, 2004. Leora is survived by seven children, Clark & Marcia Coberly of California, Fred and Christie Thomas of St. George, Carol Tuitavuki of St. George, Mark Coberly of New Jersey, Angela Coberly of California, Robert and Richard Coberly of California. Elroy and Leora were blessed with 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Heideman Mortuary, in St. George, on Saturday, August 13, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Leora will be buried in Tonaquint Cemetery with her husband, Elroy. Originally published August 11, 2005 Wilma Elaine Collar ST. GEORGE - Wilma Elaine Collar, age 80, died August 9, 2005, in St. George, Utah. She was born July 1, 1925, in River Rouge, Michigan to Floyd and Lois Bassett Rogers. She married Phillip Collar on April 12, 1958 in Newport, Michigan. After working in banks most of her life, they retired to Prescott, Arizona in 1976 and then in 1984 moved to St. George. She is a member of Cornerstone Community Fellowship. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Phillip. Survived by nieces and nephews in various states. Interment will be at the Michigan Memorial Park, Flat Rock, Michigan. Originally published August 11, 2005 Lavar Clarence Holman, 83 Adeline Mary Ferris Holman, 80 Lavar Clarence Holman, 83, and Adeline Mary Ferris Holman, 80, died Friday, August 5, 2005 at their home in West Covina, California. Lavar was born on April 1, 1922 in Lyman, Idaho to Burton Burdett Holman and Clarissa Josephine Jensen, and Adeline was born on September 9, 1924 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to Alexander Ferris and Nabeha Shaar. Lavar grew up in Idaho and graduated from Blackfoot High School. He joined the U.S. Army at the outset of World War II and served for the duration. He received a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Utah, following which he commenced his career long employment with the General Electric Company. He was one of the founders of Per-Lux, Inc. and served as President and CEO until his retirement. Adeline spent her early years in Montreal, Canada, and graduated from William Dawson High School in Montreal. She attended Alexander Business College for two years where she received her secretarial training, following which she commenced her career in Canada and the U.S. She moved to the Los Angeles area in the early 1960's and was a highly valued employee of TRW until she met and married Lavar. Through their mutual interest in golf they met, fell in love and were married on January 17, 1976. They were long time members of South Hills Country Club, where Lavar served a term as President. They had many great friends at South Hills, where they were very active in all aspects of the club. Lavar was Club Champion and Addie was an enthusiastic member of the ladies golf team. They were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They traveled to many parts of the world, but most of all they loved to be at home with their family and friends. Their greatest joys were their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They could always be found in attendance (sometimes beyond normal human endurance) at high school football games, baptisms, missionary farewells, school plays, graduations, PALS recitals, etc., etc., etc. They were survived by five sons from Lavar's previous marriage, Larry (Meg) Holman, Phillip (Sandra) Holman, Eric (Pam) Holman, Russell (Libby) Holman and Randy (Barbara) Holman; 31 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Lavar has three living sisters, Colleen (Hal) Barton, Madge McFarlane and Joy England. Adeline has tow living brothers, Edward (Yolonde) Ferris and George (Monique) Ferris and one living sister, Evelyn (Kenneth) Lyons. Adeline is survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as three aunts, Georgette Hibbard, Florence Shaar and Julia Shaar. Adeline was very close to cousins Claire Rahal, Venice Barakett, Carol Stewart and Christine Jabar. Services will be held at the Covina Ward chapel, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1271 W. Badillo St., Covina, California. Viewing will be at 9:30 a.m. and the funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 12, 2005. Interment will be in Forest Lawn, Covina. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested charitable donations be made to Share With Love, Inc., PO Box 395, American Fork, UT 84003. Originally published August 11, 2005 Jack Emil Read Rockville - Jack Emil Read, age 75, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2005, in Hurricane, Utah. He was born March 10, 1930, in Glendale, California, to Clarence and Alice Hilda Block Read. Jack was raised in California until he was 16 years old. Following the death of his mother, he and his brother moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, to live with their father. Jack joined the U.S. Navy, and was the Honorman in his basic training group. After he was honorably discharged from the Navy, he moved to Salt Lake and then to Southern California. In the early 1970's, Jack moved to Southern Utah, where he worked for Zion National Park until his retirement in 1995. Jack was a boxer in his early twenties. He was always a sports enthusiast who loved all sports. Jack had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. He loved to laugh. He enjoyed gardening and had a beautiful home in Rockville. Jack truly loved Rockville. He is survived by his companion and best friend, Gay Ballard, of Rockville; daughter, Lisa Read; step-son, Todd (Corina) Stratton, of Apple Valley, UT; grandson, Cason, the love of Jack's life; grandchildren, Mea, Nichol, and Nick; brother, Dick (Colleen) Read, of Santa Clara, UT; stepsister, Judy (Jack) Larson, and step-brother, Bruce Spencer, both of Salt Lake City; brothers-in-law, Jeff (Shirley) Ballard, of Rockville, UT, and Tim (Monta) Ballard, of Hurricane, UT; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Alice, and step-mother, Velma. A gathering for friends and family will be held Sunday, August 14, 2005, at 6:00 p.m., at the home of Gay and Jack, 112 E. Main, Rockville, UT.
