GEORGE - Ulalla Hansen, age 103, passed away peacefully in St. George on Saturday evening, August 13, 2005. Mrs. Hansen was born March 31, 1902 in Portage, Utah. She was the eldestof nine children toWilliam D. and Zina Gibbs Harris. She was married to Ernest Cornwall on June 1, 1927 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. He died on November 7, 1946. She married Conrad B. Hansen on February 14, 1955. She was a graduate of Box Elder High School and also attended Brigham Young College in Logan, Utah. She taught school for several years in Box Elder County. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings throughout her life. She loved to serve others and volunteered as a Pink Lady at the Bear River Valley Hospital. She achieved her life masters in duplicate bridge and was a member of the Skyway Golf and Country Club. She is survived by her daughter,MaryCornwall (Henry) Mendoza,four grandchildren, Diane (Ken) Young, Lori (Randy)Johnson, Kathie (Scott) Steinert, Mark (Jill) Mendoza, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sisters, Marjorie Ward of Ogden, Evelyn Fuhriman Isaacson of Tremonton, and William R. (Marilyn) Harris of Shoshone, Idaho. Additonal surviving sister in-laws, Carol Harris and Helen Harris. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil Harris, O.J. Harris, and Wendell Harris. Also preceding her in death were her sisters, Leora Moore, and Mary Harris (child). She has many surviving neices and nephews. We would like to extend our heart felt gratitude to Elderberry Care, (David and Mendy Stucki) The viewing will be held on Friday August 19, 2005 from 7-9 p.m. at Taylors Morturary. An additonal viewing to be held on Saturday, August 20, 2005 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Tremonton Stake Center (660 N. 300 East.) The funeral will begin at 11:00 a.m. Originally published August 19, 2005 Donald Arthur Cottam Donald Arthur Cottam, 78, of New Boston, Michigan, passed away in Wyandotte, Michigan, on August 12, 2005. Donald was born in St. George, Utah, Sept. 29,1926, the youngest child of Charles Walter and Sarah Ellen Manwaring Cottam. He spent his youth roaming the red hills of Dixie with his five brothers. Donald was raised in part by his two older sisters as his mother died when he was but a child. As a young man he moved to California, where he met and married Dorothy Florence Schuder. Their home was never blessed with children, but he loved and was loved by his many nieces and nephews. The couple lived in the Detroit area, where he worked as a press man at the Detroit Free Press for over 30 years. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Rulon (R.V.) and Walter Raymond, 3 sisters; Ellen, Mildred, and Verda. He is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers; LaVell of Florence, Oregon, Grant of Orem, Utah, Alvin of St. George, Utah, and William of New York, New York, sisters; Emily Godfrey of Ogden, Utah, Mary Alice Carter of Draper, Utah, and Catherine Stucki of Cedar City, Utah. Visitation is one hour prior to services, which will be held Saturday, August 20, 2005 at Heideman Mortuary, 170 S. Mall Drive St. George, Utah 84790. Friends and family are welcome. Interment in the St. George City Cemetery. Originally published August 19, 2005 Helen Barbara Goodwin Helen Goodwin, age 59, passed away August 16, 2005 at her home in Washington City, UT, following her fight against lung cancer. She was most recently employed at the Washington County Attorneys Office, and formerly resided in Lakeport, CA; Cody, WY; and Ardmore, OK. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, John Goodwin; sons Timothy {Chastity} Goodwin and Philip {Shawna} Goodwin; sisters Joan Hunter and Kathy Smith; brother Bobby Rogers; and grandchildren Brock, Noah, Hope, Parker, and Trace. She had many interests including camping, traveling, reading and spending time with her five grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Her impeccable planning and organizational skills will be missed, but we will all remember her caring, loving spirit forever. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Originally published August 19, 2005 Dewey Hawkins Jr. CEDAR CITY - Our wonderful father, Dewey, fought the good fight and quietly went home to once again embrace our Lord. Dewey was born October 26, 1923 in Crothersville, Indiana. The oldest of four son's born to Dewey Hawkins, Sr. and Amanda Leona Hawkins. Dewey lived during the Great Depression and worked as a paper boy to help support the family. He graduated from Crothersville High School with the highest I.Q. score ever recorded even to this day. After getting an appointment to go to West Point, he could not afford to go, so he joined the Army in 1948 and fought in Korea. He was promoted to staff sergeant where he remained in Korea until his tour of duty was up in 1951. Dewey was so proud to be an American and displayed a flag in his window all year. After returning from war, he met the love of his life Gerrie Banks. After a short courtship, they were married 40 years until she passed away in 1992. Dewey was a businessman, working in California for Bendix Corporation and was President of his union for several years. He owned and operated Dewey's Diner in Milford for many years. He also sold real estate and managed apartment buildings, and was a jack of all trades. Dewey was especially proud of his family and loved them very much. He had a gift for gab, talking your leg off if getting caught in the Post Office! He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Grover, Clayton and Donald Eugene and his beloved wife Gerrie. He is survived by his children, Dewey Brian of Milford, Utah, Robin and Brad Clark of Milford, Utah, grandchildren Dewey Brian of West Valley, Utah, John Clayton of Cedar City, Utah, Darrell Hawkins of Clifton, Idaho, Brittaney Larsen of Milford, Utah, Heidi Clark of Cedar City, Utah, Shalyn and Tom Richtsteig of Cedar City, Utah, Kyla Clark of Milford, Utah, and great-grandson's Cajen and Cole. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Milford LDS Church. There will be a viewing on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary in Milford, Utah. Interment will be in the Milford Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. We love and will miss our little Pap. Originally published August 19, 2005 Grace Elizabeth 'Beth' Phillips HURRICANE - Grace Elizabeth "Beth" Phillips, age 71, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2005 in Hurricane, UT. She was born February 9, 1934 in Worcester, MA to James Borden Smith McKenna and Elizabeth Pomeroy. She married Ronald Nelson Phillips on September 8, 1956 in Cambridge, MA. Beth graduated from Waltham High School and Burbank Hospital School of Nursing. While completing her nursing training she received a B.S. in education. She was instrumental in directing a nursing program for the underprivileged and inspired many to continue their pursuit of becoming a nurse. Beth served in many positions in the LDS church and was active in her community. She dedicated herself to completing her genealogy and assisting others with their family history. Beth is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, Linda Crosby, Steve (Diana) Phillips, Doug (Allison) Phillips, Deanna (Harvey) Hughes, Kara (Reed) Buchanan, and Kristen (Dan) Speranza; and 24 grandchildren. Funeral services will be Friday, August 19, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at the Hurricane Valley Mortuary, 140 N. Main, Hurricane, UT. Visitations will be Thursday, August 18, 2005 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Friday from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m., both at the mortuary. Interment will be in the LaVerkin City Cemetery. Originally published August 19, 2005 Lucille Cannon Waldron BOUNTIFUL - Lucille Cannon Waldron, 87, passed away Wednesday, August 17, 2005. She was born July 28, 1918 to Lewis Ray and Jennie Luemma Laub Cannon in Stone, Idaho. She was raised in Fielding, Utah and graduated from Bear River High School and LDS Business College. Lucille was active in the Tremonton Civic Club where she was the recipient of the Woman of the Year Award. She loved to play golf and bridge. She sewed quilts and many other fun things for her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Church Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many positions including Primary, Young Women, Relief Society President and Den Mother. She served a mission in Coventry England and most recently served as an officiator in the St. George Temple. She is survived by her children: Barbara (Sam) Howard, St. George, UT; Gae Dysli, St. George, UT; Kirk (Carol) Waldron, Provo, UT; Jane (Mark) Baer, Littleton, CO; Kelly (Evelyn) Waldron, Kaysville, UT. Also surviving are her siblings: Leah (Harold) Holley, Provo, UT; Owen (Jill) Cannon, Tremonton, UT; Hortense (Charles) Pink, Tustian, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents, ten brothers and sisters, her husbands: Owen Keller, Russell Waldron, Wayne Sandall and a son, Neal Waldron. Services will be held Monday, August 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton Stake Center, 660 North 300 East, Tremonton, UT with Bishop Michael Bowcutt conducting. Family and friends may call Sunday, August 21 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton and also Monday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
