He was born May 11th, 1945 in Cedar City, Utah to Vernon Rex and Margery Bernice Robinson Black. He married Susan Gillins September 26th, 1964 in the St. George LDS Temple. His greatest joy in his life was his family, he was always bragging on his kids and grandkids. He was proud of each and every one of them. Mike was a great outdoorsman. He grew to love nature and he respected all of God's creations. He loved to fish and hunt and spend time in the Beaver mountains and 'Out West'. He was very skilled in using a backhoe and a bobcat. He worked very hard cutting cedar posts, firewood, Christmas trees, and logging. He passed this legacy on to his sons and grandsons. Mike has touched many lives. He was a friend to everyone and was always willing to help those in need. He is survived by his wife, Susan, of Beaver; eight children: Nanette and Randy Morgensen (Beaver), Chad and Michelle Black (Elko, NV), Shelly Black (Draper), Natalie and Blaine Milne (Orem), Julie and Cade Lewis (Monticello), David and Desera Black (Beaver), Tyler Black (Taylorsville), Tyson and Stephanie Black (Ft. Lauderdale, FL). He has 19 grandchildren, brother Leland and two sisters, Susie and Madyline, all of Beaver. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Eldon Black. Viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Oplin Mortuary in Beaver. Funeral services will be Friday at 11:00 am at the Beaver LDS 4th Ward. Originally published August 31, 2005 Ione Woodbury Bradshaw CEDAR CITY - Ione Woodbury Bradshaw returned to her heavenly home, Saturday, August 27, 2005, for a joyful reunion with her husband, Reed, son Bevan, parents, William E. and Verda Sullivan Woodbury, three brothers and many generations of ancestors, whom she has traced throughout her lifetime. Ione was born July 15, 1911 in Leeds, Utah. She married Reed Bradshaw in the St. George LDS Temple, March 26, 1930. Reed passed away February 10, 1986. Ione graduated with the second graduating class of Hurricane High School and then attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. Following her marriage, and the birth of their first two children, Ione and Reed moved to Cedar City where he was employed as parts manager for Bradshaw Chevrolet. In 1946, they became the owners of Bradshaw Firestone which operated on Main Street in Cedar City for 48 years. During this time, Ione was also employed by Arden/Meadow Gold Dairy as a bookkeeper. After their retirement from the Firestone Store, Reed and Ione served an LDS mission in the Mountain Grove, Missouri area. During her lifetime, Ione devoted much time to genealogy research and temple work. She served in her ward in many capacities, especially in the Relief Society and Family History organizations. Along with raising her own four children, Ione's home has been opened to her brothers and numerous grandchildren as they have attended college. Ione was a master quilter, knitter, and tatter. Every child, grandchild, great grandchild, family members and friends have been recipients of her handiwork. She was a charter member of the En Avante Literary Club. She also served in many capacities in the Cedar City Lady Lions organization including a term as President. Until physical problems overcame her, Ione maintained a beautiful yard and garden. On her recent 94th birthday, Ione received the "Flight of a Lifetime" helicopter ride which was provided by her niece and husband Cyndi and Steve Gilbert. Ione raised four children, Reed Bevan (Merelyn) (both deceased), Karma (Ted) Jolly of Richfield, Utah, Karl (Susan-deceased & Jerri) of Cedar City, Utah and JoNeal (Robert) Hall of Tolleson, Arizona. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren (2 deceased), 62 great grandchildren (1 deceased), and 19 great great grandchildren (with one more expected), sister MaryLynn (Clair) Reber of Santa Clara, Utah, Evans Woodbury of St. George, Utah, W. Bryce Woodbury (RaNae-deceased & Joyce) of Sacramento, California, and sister-in-law Lois Woodbury of Toquerville, Utah. She was preceded in passing by her husband Reed, son Bevan, parents Verda Sullivan and William E. Woodbury, and brothers Garth, Errol and Rulan Woodbury. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at 12:00 noon in the Cedar City 2nd/8th Ward Building located at 2nd West & 2nd South. Family and friends may call on Friday evening, September 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Southern Utah Mortuary, and Saturday morning, September 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. GEORGE - Ed Hager passed away quietly on Sunday, August 28, 2005 in St. George, Utah. He was born September 15, 1917 in Brooklyn, New York to Carl and Theresa Hager. He attended school in Conrad, Montana and worked on the farms until his father died in 1935. He then went to work in the tailoring business with his older brother Carl until 1939. Ed also worked for the Milwaukee Railroad until 1942 when he was drafted. He served in the Aleutian Islands until the war ended. Ed returned to Montana and was employed at the Conrad Hotel when he met the love of his life "Luella". They were married on August 12, 1952 in Butte, Montana. Ed loved to hunt and fish with friends and family members and always had great stories to tell. Later he became a building contractor where he built homes in Montana, Ogden and St. George, Utah. He retired in 1982. Ed loved everyone but most of all he loved his wife. Ed has left behind his sister, Madeline Briggs of Conrad, Montana, his loving son Mel Watkins (Sherry and the late Barbara Hirschi Watkins) of St. George and his 11 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandkids as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, a daughter Gayle, his grandson Randy Watkins, and his wife Luella Hager. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 1, 2005, 10 a.m. at the St. George Community Church, 95 S. 800 E., St. George, Utah. Originally published August 31, 2005 Bonnie May Pectol ST. GEORGE - Bonnie May Pectol passed away August 30, 2005 at the St. George Care Center. She was born in La Verkin, Utah on September 20, 1941 to Willard Dwight and Beulah Mae Gifford Pectol. When she was nine years old her family moved to Kearns, Utah where she received her education in the area schools. Bonnie had a free and adventurous spirit. She made friends easily and had an unconditional love for everyone she knew. She loved to travel and was an avid Genealogist. She did research for many other people. She is survived by her parents and children, Rickey Dean Nielsen of Washington, Utah, and Stephanie May (Brady) Abbott of Paragonah, Utah. Two brothers, Winferd "Wink" (Joni) Pectol and Dwight Pectol, both of Washington, Utah and two sisters, Judy Hoffman of Henderson, Nevada and Brenda (Dale) Sugden of Galesburg, Illinois, three granddaughters and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Willard Joey Pectol. Special thanks to all of those who took tender loving care of Bonnie at the St. George Care Center. Originally published August 31, 2005 Wesley Alvin McCoy CEDAR CITY - Wesley Alvin McCoy, age 65, passed away in his sleep after an extended illness, on Sunday morning, August 28, 2005 in Las Vegas, Nevada where he and his wife, Pat lived for the last few years. He was born on March 8, 1940 in Anaconda, Montana to John Wesley and Dorothy May Ellen McCoy. He married Patricia Kay Peterson on February 20, 1967 in Junction City, Kansas. Wesley was raised in Everett, Washington and Helena, Montana where he attended school, until he joined the United States Army in 1956, serving in several overseas arenas. He spent ten years in the Army until meeting his sweetheart Pat and marrying in February of 1967, raising two children together. Wesley worked for American Viscose in Meadville, Pennsylvania. After moving to Bountiful, Utah, he worked for Christensen Diamond being a machinist for years until health problems plagued him in 1982. Wesley was extremely talented and gifted. He could make just about anything out of a piece of rope, leather or wood, and did wonders with match sticks that he had left over from lighting his pipe. He enjoyed camping, garage sales, and his beloved dog Tiney. He is survived by his wife Patricia McCoy of St. George, Utah, son Thomas Gail (Mindy) McCoy of Enterprise, Utah, daughter Pamela Kay (Kerby) Hansen of Cedar City, Utah, eight grandchildren Austin Thomas McCoy, Kelton Wayne McCoy, Jessica McCoy, Mitchel Lee Hansen, Caden Mathew Hansen, Nathaniel Jay Hansen, Jesse Wes Hansen, Josie Mae Hansen, one sister Irene M. Pike of St. George, Utah and three nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy McCoy. GEORGE - After a long brave struggle, Patrick Henry Tracy, age 83, passed away at 9:30 a.m. on August 29, 2005, at the Red Cliffs Convalescent Center, in St. George, Utah. Patrick was born August 2, 1922, in Richmond, Indiana, to Patrick Francis and Margaret Augusta Ranville Tracy. He married Eva Edith Montandon on February 14, 1950, in Sioux City, Iowa. Patrick entered military service the 31st of October, 1942. He served as a Sargent during World War II. During this service, the Commanding Officer wrote a letter stating that Patrick's character and morality were above reproach. An Iowa transplant, Patrick retired and moved to St. George 16 years ago when he fell in love with the red hills. While living in Iowa, Patrick was employed for 35 years at Knapp and Spencer, in wholesale hardware, where he was a vice-president of the company and member of the board of directors. He was also very active in Iowa community affairs, serving as Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors Club, President of the Noon Lion's Club (specializing in seeing eye dogs), a member of the board of directors for the Sioux City Boy's Club, an officer in the Toastmasters Club, and he also participated in numerous United Way Fund drives. Patrick served the Lord during his mortal sojourn on this earth to the best of his ability. He was chairman of his church's Finance Committee, a Deacon and Elder for 35 years, and a Sunday School Teacher. Patrick is a devoted member of the St. George, Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church. Surviving family include by his: wife, Eva; two nieces, one grand-nephew, and two grandnieces. Patrick was preceded in death by his parents and his only sibling, a brother, Randall Francis Tracy. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. at the Spilsbury Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery immediately following the service. Originally published August 31, 2005 Beloved Mother and Friend Our beloved mother, Thelma B. Foote passed quickly and peacefully from this life August 27, 2005. Thelma was born to Jacob and Rose Axelrod on May 29, 1924 in Brooklyn, New York. She married Arnold L. Foote on May 6, 1945. This marriage was solemnized in the LDS Salt Lake Temple. She attended the University of Utah and Weber State College graduating with a degree in science. She retired from Cottonwood Hospital where she worked as a respiratory therapist. Mom was well known for her kindness and genuine love for others. Mom was disabled veteran from World War II. She was an excellent cook and well known for her spaghetti. Mom spent her retirement years doing volunteer work, golfing and traveling with her husband and family which she dearly loved to do. Mom was born Jewish and lived an LDS life retaining her Jewish heritage in her heart her whole life. Mom was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Foote, daughter Nancy, parents Jacob and Rose Axelrod, Brother Elliot J. Axelrod, niece Rhonda Romeo and her husband Vincent. Mother and Father in law Warren and Amanda Foote, brother in law Devon Foote, sisters in law Lois Andrew, Iown Jensen and Maureen Dupaix. She is survived by her children Elliot A. Foote, Rosanne (Allen) Johnson, Daniel (Jackie) Foote, grandchildren, Jeffrey Johnson, Jennifer Johnson and her fianc‚ Morris Cox, Matthew Johnson, Melissa (Jeremy) Faulkner, Jennie Lee Hutchinson, great grandson Dakota Faulkner.
