Haydon was born in Mt. Dora, New Mexico, to Albert H. and Rosetta E. Briggs, second of four brothers. He attended school in Mt. Dora and Clayton, New Mexico, and graduated at Des Moines, New Mexico. After graduation, Haydon worked at the Wingate Army Depot in Gallup, New Mexico. During that time, he joined the U.S. Air Force 40th Bomb Squad and fought proudly in WWII. When honorably discharged, he fell in love and married Melrose Marie Jaggers on July 18, 1947. They had two children, a daughter, Kerry Melrose, and a son, Barry Val (deceased). In 1956, they moved to Flagstaff, Arizona, where he worked at the Navajo Army Depot until he retired in 1974. Haydon and Melrose moved to Blanding, Utah after they both were retired in 1982, where they have loved and enjoyed each other for many years. Haydon loved his family, and spent time teaching them everything he knew about horses, hunting and fishing. He took pride in his race horses, which he raced in Flagstaff, Prescott, and Santa Fe. He had hunting skills that none could match, especially his knowledge of guns. He took pride in everything he did, and passed that on to all of us. His greatest passion was the love and care that he had for his family. Grandpa was a very special person. We will always carry with us his love and strength in our hearts. He will be deeply missed. Haydon is survived by his loving and dedicated wife of 58 years, Melrose Marie Briggs; daughter, Kerry (Tony) Certonio; grandchildren, Danny Briggs, Tracy Todd Farnsworth, Glyn Certonio, and Tony (Lisa) Certonio; greatgrandchildren, Ashlee, Trent, Jaden, and Trinity. GEORGE - James Henderson Kirkland II was welcomed into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday afternoon, November 29, 2005, after a tragic automobile accident. James was born on January 5, 1987 in Washington, Utah. He was born again into God's family at a young age when he trusted in Jesus' sacrifice on the cross to wash away his sins, restore his relationship with God, and guarantee him eternal life in God's presence. James had a thirst for making every moment of his life count. He was a hard and dedicated worker for his family's business, and several community employers. He faithfully attended Southland Bible Church, his "second home," where he loved to listen to God's Word and spend countless hours with the high school youth group and his close college friends. Throughout his high school years, James served as a camp counselor at Cedar Mountain Retreat Bible Camp, where he poured his time and attention into hundreds of elementary and middle school students from the southern Utah area. He enjoyed participating in numerous youth group projects, including the KONY Coins for Kids shopping night, mission trips to northern Utah, and volunteering at Dixie Care 'N' Share's food bank. He found adventure while hunting with his father, brother, and friends, mountain biking, riding the slopes of Brian Head, exploring 4-wheel drive trails, hiking the Zion Park Narrows, and target shooting. James possessed a sarcastic wit and an affinity for teasing his mom, sisters, and Pine View friends. His sacrificial love, contagious smile, courageous heart, and loyal friendship will never be forgotten. James was a wonderful big brother and a deeply cherished son. The last e-mail received from James ended with the encouragement, "If God brings you to it, He will bring you through it." We trust that God will carry us through until we see James again one day. James leaves behind his father, James, Sr.: mother, Jeni; brother, Erik; sisters, AnnJanine, Katie, Rebecca, Emmerie, and Savannah; brother-in-law, Jake; future brother-in-law, Bradley; grandparents, Sylvia Kirkland, Blae and Arlena Hansen, Chuck and Trisha Davis, and Amy Poulton; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at the Southland Bible Church, 195 E. Arroweed Way, Washington, UT.
