Originally published December 4, 2005 "PegGus" Margaret Ann "Peg" Carayas A letter which expresses the thoughts of scores of other letters from her students: "What words do you say at a time like this? Rather than mourning the death of Ms. C., why not celebrate her life? How lucky you are to have been blessed with not only a beautiful wife, but an amazing best friend. Ms. C. had a smile that could light up a room and a laugh that could spark the child inside of everyone. I loved the way she would laugh at her own jokes. She had the courage to fight for what she believed in and never forgot where she came from. I'll never forget her dedication to each and every one of her children at Cross Creek, her eagerness to make everyone around her happy, the way she could admit to her flaws but still took pride in herself, how she never let life get the best of her, her New York accent, her unconditional love for everyone around her... She was a giver. She touched my heart on every side. Even though she is not with us now, I have no doubt in my mind that she will still be here watching over you and your family, and all the other lives she has touched. Her spirit will never pass. She was always so full of life... that does not have to change now. Live each day in loving memory of Ms. C." HURRICANE Peg was born in Middletown, NY on June 23, 1943 to Charles R. Wolfe and Alma LaBarge. She passed away on November 25, 2005. She was 62 years of age. Peg was a master teacher of Physical Education from 1966 through 1988. From 1980 to 1988 Peg and her husband ran the Carayas Technique for Movement Development in Middletown, NY. From 1988 to 1997 Peg was the Activities Director for three major hotels in Catskills, NY. From 1997 to her death, Peg was a teacher of every high school course except for the maths and sciences at Cross Creek Academy in LaVerkin. Peg continues to stay alive in her husband, Costa, and in the hearts of her five children, Steven, Kim, Heather, Andrea and Laura, her seven grandchildren, Alexandra, Shelby, Lindsay, Jess iah, Nathanial, Cassandra and Suzanne, and the hundreds of loving students at Cross Creek, whose lives she touched so deeply, and the scores of friends whose lives she brightened. Peg loved and lived life with a contagious passion that showed ever so elegantly as she was both doing and teaching country line dancing. God has brought home one of his most very special children, and Peg will be missed here on earth ever so deeply.
