Kandor Susan M. Kandor, age 99, of St. George, died December 4, 2005. She was born October 11, 1906 in Slovakia to Michael and Mary Ihnat Ronyak. She immigrated to Clairton, Pennsylvania in 1920. She was preceded in death by her husband, John M. Kandor, in 1991, and two sons, John, an infant, and Edward in 1969. She moved to St. George in 1998 and lived at The Meadows. She is survived by two sons, William J. (Faye) Kandor of St. George; and Joseph (Jan) Kandor of Brockport, New York. Also surviving are four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. There will be a viewing at Heideman Mortuary, 170 South Mall Drive on Tuesday, December 6, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. George Catholic Church. There will be a viewing at Bekavac Funeral Home in Clairton, Pennsylvania, followed by interment at St. Clare's Cemetery, Clairton, Pennsylvania. We would like to thank the caring and compassionate nurses of Applegate Hospice and St. George Care Center during the last few days of Susan's life. Originally published December 6, 2005 Metta Bastian Mortensen PAROWAN - Metta Bastian Mortensen passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Iron County Nursing Home in Parowan, Utah. She was born on March 7, 1911 at Paragonah, Utah to Hans T. Bastian and Lula R. Bastian. She married Vern C. Mortensen on July 12, 1933 in Paragonah. Their marriage was later solemnized July 9, 1954 in the St. George Temple. He preceded her in death on September 11, 1994 after 61 years of marriage. Metta graduated from the Branch Agricultural College in Cedar City and taught school in a one-room school house in Lund, Utah for two years. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Sunday School, the Young Women's Organization, the Relief Society in many capacities, as President and for many years as a visiting teacher. Her great love was the small children as she taught Primary for many, many years. Metta worked with the Iron County Fair and as a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She also served as Parowan City Treasurer for about ten years. She is survived by her children, Claire (Fred) Dalton and Ralph (Jeanne) Mortensen of Parowan, Cliff (Rose) Mortensen of Lewiston, Idaho, Metta Marie Wanosik of Salt Lake City, Linda Pronk of West Valley City, sister Emma B. Dalton of Paragonah, Utah, 13 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, brother Clair L. Bastian, son-in-law Phillip Pronk, granddaughter Debbie Mortensen, great-grandson Brandon Dalton, great-granddaughter Britania Mortensen, and a greatgreat-granddaughter Elisa Davies. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. in the Parowan 1st and 2nd Ward Chapel. Friends and family may call Tuesday, December 6, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, December 7 from 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. both at the Southern Utah Mortuary in Parowan. Interment will be in the Parowan Cemetery under the direction of Southern Utah Mortuary. Jr. Jack died on December 5, 2005 after a long struggle with complications from diabetes. Born on July 16, 1936 in Loma Linda, CA to Hildreth Osborn and Jack G. Webb, Jack did most of his growing up in west Los Angeles. He graduated from University High where he was active in football and the Sultans. He graduated from Central State University in Oklahoma with a major in math-physics. He worked his whole career in computer related job for a variety of firms, including Universal Studios, Denny's, Northrup and Washington Mutual. In 1961 he married his sweetheart, Patti Epperson. They had six great kids and 15 super grandchildren. Jack was always active in his community and served in a variety of church callings. After 35 years in Southern CA, Jack retired and moved with Patti to Cedar City, UT to be nearer to kids and grandchildren. Much of Jack's spare time was spent supporting his grandchildren at their various activities. He also indulged his love of old cars by restoring and showing his '69 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible at car shows near and far, including an epic road trip to Cleveland, Ohio for the 2003 Oldsmobile National Show. In late spring of 2005, they moved one more time to Cedar Hills, UT, where Jack fought his final battle. Jack is survived by his sweet wife Patti of Cedar Hills; Juli (Dave) Stricklan of Rexburg, ID; Shelly (Michael) Leavitt of Orem; Lisa Griffin of Enterprise, UT; Wendy (Kurt) Griffith of St. George; Sherri Webb of Cedar Hills; Jack G. Webb, III known as Jay, of Cedar Hills; his "one and only" sister, Marilynne (Ken) Wright of Logan; 14 grandchildren; and his 3 classic cars. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first granddaughter, Jocelyn Stricklan. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec 8, 2005 at 12 noon in the Cedar Hills 14th Ward, 3950 West Cedar Hills Drive. Friends may call from 10:45 to 11:45 am prior to the services at the church.
