He was born October 30, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Robert and Jane Dougan Barclay. David graduated from West High School. He served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Great Britain from 1950 -1952. After returning from the mission field, he was drafted into the United States Army. David married Marie Haws, January 19, 1953, and later divorced. They had three sons, David, John and Jim. He followed the upholstery trade for fifteen years and then began a long career with the Postal Service as a clerk at the Bountiful City Post Office. He married Virginia Kay Seiter January 12, 1971 and added another son, Bruce. At the age of seven, David learned to play the bagpipes at this grandfather's knee demonstrating a natural ability. He loved playing the bagpipes, it was the light of his life, and passed this heritage on to all of his children, grandchildren and many others. He was a life long member of the Utah Pipe Band. He was instrumental in forming the Utah Scottish Association and served as President and in numerous other leadership positions in this organization. David was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and held many positions in the Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; his children, David, John (Shelly), Jim, and Bruce (Angela); eighteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Mary Afton Morrill (Duane), and Juanita Martin Wainwright (Bruce). Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Andrew Barclay. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at the Orchard 6th Ward Chapel, 3599 South Orchard Drive, Bountiful, Utah. Originally published December 9, 2005 Jerry Breck Glazier HURRICANE - Jerry Breck Glazier passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2005. He was born January 23, 1961 in Cedar City, Utah, to Jerry and Lola Williams Glazier. He married Michelle Maxfield, and they were later divorced. He married Michelle Horn, and they were divorced. Breck was raised, and spent his entire life in Southern Utah; Hurricane, Cane Beds, the Arizona Strip, and he especially loved Kolob. He loved the outdoors - hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. Breck was a gifted heavy equipment operator, working throughout Southern Utah for local contractors. He was always the life of the party, a true friend, and loved children. Breck's personality radiated on every occasion, he was known for his vibrant, honest nature, and he had many friends, and great memories. Originally published December 9, 2005 Tom Lee 'T-bone' Neville Jackson FAIRVIEW, Mont., formerly of LAYTON, Utah - Tom Lee Neville Jackson, known to his friends as "T-Bone," has been brought home for his final rest near his deceased father, Gary Lee Jackson, of Washington, Utah. Tom and his family were living in Fairview, Montana, when on December 1, 2005, he was taken by a fatal head injury. He passed away at the Billings, Montana, Hospital on December 3, 2005. Tommy was born July 19, 1960 in Ogden, Utah. His love for his wife and family always came first. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Tommy worked as a heavy equipment operator many years, and was working as a roughneck. Tom was a former member of the Sundowner's, and always had a passion for motorcycles. Tom and Sally were married October 28, 1983. He will be missed by all and our prayers are with him. Surviving are his wife, Sally J. Bodily; son Joshua D. Neville; daughter, Mandi Neville, West Valley, UT; granddaughters Michelle and Nichole, Washington, UT; mother, Norma Jackson, Washington, UT; brothers, Terry L. Originally published December 9, 2005 Keith Nolan Langston BLANDING - Keith Nolan Langston returned unexpectedly to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on November 30, 2005. Keith was born June 16, 1943 to Francis Ivan and Maud Beardall Langston in Hurricane, Utah. He married Camille Hicken on June 3, 1969 in the St. George, Utah Temple for time and all eternity. Together they are the parents of six children: Jim (Tina) Tooele, UT, Clarinda (Geoffrey) Tooele, UT, Jared (Suzanne) Newton, UT, Jeremy (Tracey) Magna, UT, Jade (Tonya) Magna, UT, Jeff Orem, UT. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Keith served as a missionary in the Gulf States Mission, Branch President for the White Mesa Branch and many other church callings. Keith loved children and embodied education. He graduated from Hurricane High School, attended Dixie College, and graduated with a bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Southern Utah State College in 1970 and a Master's of Education from Northern Arizona University in 1986. He was an influential teacher at Blanding Elementary School for 30 years where he taught 3rd and 5th grade. Keith instilled his love of learning on his wife and children. His wife and their two oldest children attained master's degrees, three of the remaining four children have Associates of Science. All five of Keith's sons are Eagle Scouts. One of the greatest legacies he left with his children was the value of hard work. Keith kept in constant contact with his children and grand children. He often told his children and grandchildren that he loved them. Keith loved the outdoors, teaching his children to hunt and fish and appreciate the splendor of San Juan County. Keith was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Camille, six children and seven grand children, two brothers (Lynn and Clair) and three sisters (Elaine, Nedra and Jean). There will be a viewing Thursday December 8, 2005 from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. and Friday December 9th from 9:00 A.M.-10:00 A.M. at San Juan Mortuary. His funeral will be Friday December 9, 2005 at the Blanding Utah South Chapel at 11:00 A.M.. Keith will be interred at the Hurricane City Cemetery on Saturday December 10, 2005 at 1:00 P.M., where a short grave side service will be held. Originally published December 9, 2005 Richard B. Peterson ST. GEORGE - Our loving husband and father, Richard B. Peterson, passed away peacefully December 7, 2005, after losing his brave struggle with illness. Richard was born June 29, 1928, in Ogden, Utah. He was the second son and third child of Carl Oscar and Katherine Belle Wilson Peterson. He spent his childhood in Omaha, Nebraska, Sun Valley, Idaho and Ogden, Utah. He graduated from Ogden High School and attended Weber College. He entered the Air Force in 1950 and served in San Antonio, Texas and Chatereaux, France. Richard married Carol Scoffield on June 1, 1951, and they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary this year. Richard was employed for 37 years as a salesman and manager for Swift and Company. He moved to St. George when he retired and took pleasure in the beautiful weather and scenery. Richard found great enjoyment in fishing, golfing and traveling with Carol in their motor home, cooking and having family barbeques. He spent many hours working on humanitarian projects which brought him a great sense of accomplishment in helping people in need. Richard was a proud and loving father of three children; David Richard (Kathy), Nancy Carol (Ron) Madsen, and Barbara Jean (Larry) Jones, and eight grandchildren; Matthew Peterson, Nicholas Peterson, Marcus Schulze, Lauren Schulze, Emily Jones, Daniel Jones, Brian Morrill, and Korri Colton. He is survived by his wife Carol, his brother Robert (Madge) Peterson, and his children and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Primary Children's Medical Center or the Utah Food Bank. Originally published December 9, 2005 Dortha Lynne Gerrard Stocking Dortha Lynne Gerrard Stocking, age 66, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, departed from this life after a courageous battle with cancer of the pancreas and liver, December 2, 2005, surrounded by family members in her St. George home. Born February 25, 1939 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Gilbert and Fayette Gerrard, Dortha graduated from Olympus High School and attended BYU. She married Royal J. Stocking in the Salt Lake LDS temple on August 14, 1959. Dortha was a talented pianist, organist, dancer, and artist. She shared her talents by teaching hundreds of students over the years. She also nurtured a love of music and art within her family. Dortha and Royal were always chasing a rainbow, which led them on adventures in England, Mississippi, California, and Oregon before returning to Utah. She was a consummate homemaker who sacrificed much to provide for her family. Dortha was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous callings through out the years; Camp Director, Chorister, Relief Society President, Primary Teacher, Dance Festival Coordinator, Emergency Preparedness Director, but most loved to share her talents as Ward Organist. Preceded in death by her parents, Gil and Fay Gerrard. Survived by her faithful husband, Royal J. Stocking; children, Tracy (Susan) of Salt Lake City; Joe of Salisbury Center, New York; Sherrie Gerry of St. George; Jill Adams of St. George; Dan of Al Asad, Iraq; Tricia (Jerome) Fogle of Brevard, North Carolina, and Jesse of St. George. Also survived by her brother Jim (Laurie) Gerrard, sister Betty (Jay) Mitchell, 11 grand children, and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at the St. George 3rd Ward, 200 West 500 North, on Saturday, December 10, 2005, 11:00 am. Viewings will be held Friday 6:00 to 7:00 pm at Heideman Mortuary, 170 South Mall Drive, St. George, Utah, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at the Tonaquint Cemetery in St. George, immediately following the service, under the direction of Heideman mortuary. A memorial service will also be held at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, in Murray on Friday, December 23 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Originally published December 9, 2005 Violet Spendlove Wood Violet Spendlove Wood, 92, died on December 6, 2005. Violet was born on April 9, 1913 in Hurricane, UT, the fourth of nine children of Joseph Walter and Nettie Ann Sanders Spendlove. Even though she had many chores, Violet enjoyed family life. It was especially fun with double cousins living next door. She liked school, especially English and reading and progressed at an accelerated rate, graduating from Hurricane High School a year early in 1930. Violet was president of her senior class and was editor of the yearbook her junior and senior years. Violet attended Dixie College on a scholarship and worked as a housekeeper and cook for her room and board. She was editor of the yearbook in 1932, the same year she graduated with a teaching certificate. She taught grades 1-4 on a one-room schoolhouse in Gunlock for two years. Violet married LuWayne Wood, also of Hurricane, in Las Vegas on May 26, 1935. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George Temple. They became the parents of five children. After 68 years of marriage, LuWayne died on December 16, 2003. Violet and LuWayne made their first home in Boulder City, Nevada, where LuWayne began a 41year career with the Southern California Edison Company. His job took them to Big Creek, California in 1949 and on to Arcadia, California in 1959. After retirement, Violet and LuWayne returned to southern Utah in 1979, settling in St. George. They traveled extensively throughout the world. Violet was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her church callings included teaching in most of the auxiliaries and serving as president of Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women's MIA. Violet and LuWayne were ordinance workers at the St. George Temple for 10 years. She served as a school board member for two terms as well as a Girl Scout leader during their years in Big Creek. Violet was always refined in her dress, carriage, and speech. She loved reading and poetry. She was a member of the Alice Reynolds Book Club. While in her eighties, she read every volume of Will Durrant's History of the World. Violet was a beautiful seamstress, meticulous housekeeper, and marvelous cook. She shared her talents and her love in so many ways. Violet is survived by her children, Dr. O. Lew Wood (Yvonne), of Murray, Utah, Sylvia Sawyer (Mel), of Orem, Utah, Roberta Jugant (Gerard), of Palo Alto, California, and Douglas Wood (Barbara), of Orem, Utah; her siblings Cliff Spendlove (Jan) and France Spendlove (Dorothy), all of Hurricane, Utah, and Mary Gibson (Mads), of Boulder City, Nevada. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, LuWayne; her daughter, Sandra,; her brothers Jack, Jim, and Ray Spendlove: her sisters, Annie and Clara; and her grandson, Blaine Wood. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to the caregivers who were so kind and considerate during the final months of Violet's life. Funeral services will be held at on Monday, December 12 at 11:30 a.m. at the St. George 4th Ward Chapel, 440 S. 300 E., St. George. Friends may call prior to the services at the chapel from 10 until 11 am. Interment will be at 3 pm the same day at the Hurricane City Cemetery.
